Find The Word (Love Themed)
Tagged by @mrsmungus,who's single-handedly keeping me connected to my writing. *hugs*
The rules are simple, find the given words in your writing (WIP, Published, a college essay - it doesn't matter) or something close enough (I think conjugating verbs and finding synonyms are both fair game) share an excerpt, and tag some friends and some new words to play too.
Tumblr media
Words for me to find:
Affection, Heart, Kiss, Romance, Spark
Words for you to find:
Date, Kiss, Bed or Bedroom, Love, Promise
Tags to play: @loudlooks @indestinatus @television-overload @jeanmoreaux @wanna-be-bold
@pro-bee @mcgeekle and anyone else!

Affection
From After Midnight: “You are drunk,” she says, reiterating the fact for good measure.     His pliable lips stretch sideways in a silly smile that taps into the pocket of affection she’s long had for his sweet, playful side. “You’re drunk,” he accuses with a scrunch of his nose.  He is half right, and it’s so hot in the backseat, and she knows she should pull away, or push him away, backhand some sense into him even, but something in a momentary flash of sobriety over his expression keeps her from moving at all.
Heart
From Now Playing: They’d filled up a lifetime’s worth of heartache and turmoil and redemption in just a few short years, and it followed them—their collective history—like scars, souvenirs from battles fought both side-by-side and against one another. If their bodies got too close, would they see how well the marks lined up? If so, what would that prove about them? Something once, twice broken. Something messy and complicated… Something, Tony decided shortly after bringing her home, he never wanted to lose again.
Kiss
From a WIP, New Year Normal: Tony sighed and held her tighter, dragging his teeth over the spot she’d kissed. “It’s definitely not how I thought we’d be spending our first New Year’s Eve as a couple, that’s for sure.”
Romance
From smiles that give you away: Now there were no boundaries. Personal overrunning professional. The endless volley of looks–ranging from playful to uncomfortably intimate–sent across their desks, seeming to convey more without words than with. Touches that lingered on arms and low backs and waists anytime they crossed paths, like two spies who hadn’t yet mastered the brush-pass–who no longer cared that their cover was blown.  McGee couldn’t have written an office romance better himself. (He’d tried.) But they still had jobs to do.
Spark
From Full Mischief: Tony held the butcher knife out to her, the green in his eyes sparkling like jewels. He was pleased with himself, clearly. As if this was his plan from the beginning. “Take a stab, sweetcheeks.”

Hey Grace! Just really wanted to say thank you for sharing tit for tat - groundbreaking isn’t enough to express how GOOD it is. Was a solid 90 pages deep on the Draco/Harry tag and :knew: something like that was out there. It bought me to tears (happy and sad ofc) many times. The knowledge it was there when I finished work was such a bright part of my day. When I say it was life changing seeing the depths of those characters and the convos it sparked in my own life, writing and sharing it is so personal and it can and does have such a wide and profound impact. Thank you times a million for literally my all time fav fic and SO looking forward to part 2 ❤️❤️❤️
hi nonnie,
i've read and re-read this so many times today. it dissolved all the weird work anxiety i was holding in my chest, so thank you for that! comments and reviews like this are life-changing stuff, so thank you from the bottom of my heart to anyone who's ever told a writer how much their work means to you.
two little things, for the Tit for Tat fans:
1) Part II is coming! starting this week! i've got 170k ready and the remainder in the workshop, so prepare thyselves for another looooooong fic.
2) Tit for Tat was un-beta'd and i've learned some things since it was published. i'll be revising it purely for SPaG and other writerly things. so, if you revisit it in 2022 it'll have the same heart, but be held up by stronger bones.
xx

Last Sentence Tag Game
Another lovely tag from @mrsmungus
RULES: Post the last sentence you wrote (fanfic / original / anything) and tag as many people as there are words in the sentence.
This is from the New Year's tiva story that haunts me late at night.
Or perhaps her arousal was finally edging out logic.

WIP Game...
RULES: make a new post with the names of all the files in your WIP folder, regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous. Let people send you an ask with the title that most intrigues them, and then post a little snippet or tell them something about it! and then tag as many people as you have WIPs.
@mrsmungus tagged me, but I'm not sure she knew what she was asking for. I have lots of unfinished stuff. Lots. And all my stories are categorized in their own folder, so often the fic title isn't in the file name or it's the abbreviation and the chapter/scene. But here they are!

Had a dream where Senior brings teenage Tony on a "business trip" because he got expelled from military school. Tony is unhappy bc these type of trips with his father have never gone well, and that was when he was young. Now he's 17 and has a chip on his shoulder, and Senior is put-out by his son's presence and isn't even trying to bond with him.
So they travel to Israel to meet this new contact of Senior's and turns out it's the deputy director of mossad, not that Tony knows this. Senior just says Eli David is "influential in the region." They go to the deputy's mansion in Tel Aviv, and all is perfunctory and glad-handing and trading-cigars, and Tony is miserable and hot and put off by all the people with guns -- until the director asks his daughters to join them for supper.
Tali is a gangly 13 year old, who wears tiny braids in her hair and has braces on her teeth. She's outgoing, though, and giggles at Tony's jokes and winks. She reminds him of a fleeting step-sister he had, one of his father's whims. The elder sister, Ziva, on the hand, is hard to read because her face has only shades of the same expression: cold, aloof. Tony finds her utterly intriguing and beautiful in a way that 17 year old girls in America do not possess, but they butt heads off the bat. It's the only time her face changes--when they are arguing or at least bantering about trivial things (or when Tali draws her attention, which results in a soft, motherly Ziva). They seem to be opposites, as well. Tony was just kicked out of military school; Ziva is preparing to go into the IDF. Tony is all smiles; Ziva wears a frown. He is light; she is dark. The fathers pick up on the teenagers' angst and begin discussing their ex-spouses (both are currently unattached). Tony and Ziva ask to be excused, as neither wish to hear this from their fathers.
And that's when I woke up.

Abroad: New Tiva Amnesty Fic
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(picture credit laura makabresku; gif credit finalfantasyxivonline)
A/N: Originally written in October 2015, but never shared (at least not that I recall) with the fandom. The idea was an AU where college student Tony travels abroad to Tel Aviv, meets IDF soldier Ziva, they fall in love, and then it gets dicey with Eli/Mossad. Very Romeo & Juliet-esque. This section was the prelude. I've tweaked it a little, and it stands on its own. I'll never continue the story, but I'm proud of the writing. Let your imagination fill in the rest. ;)
What to Except: He wants to tell her that he might love her. Maybe. He’s never loved someone like her before.
Word Count: 600
Read on Ao3

Reposting Update
In February, I started what I referred to as "My Reposting Journey," which is just me finally putting all my NCIS/Tiva fics scattered across the internet in one location, i.e. Ao3.
It's July and I've reposted 18 stories. Pretty cool. Should be more, but I've had sucky RL stuff sidetrack me. Grief is a beyotch.
Things I've asked myself along the way: "why not just throw everything up at once? these aren't NEW - who do you think you are posting them as if they're something special?" As you can tell, my negative intrusive thoughts are alive and kicking.
One reason is that I read through the fics before posting, mostly for editing purposes. But it's also been instructive. It's a gift to view my stories as an outsider of sorts. I've picked up on recurring themes I didn't know were there, common motivations that I use for certain characters. These reflections are helping me look at current wips through the lens of my collective bibliography and channel that energy.
Another reason I've posted them over time is that I was hoping this process would encourage me to write, which has and hasn't happen, though 2 new works is better than nothing. But there's still time and more fics to post.
If you're interested in my journey, follow along here!
Here are a few recent reposts w/ fun visuals:
Interlude (Tiva; piano lessons in the summer after S10)
Tumblr media
Loyalty (Tiva; missing scene for "Frame-Up")
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tradition (Tiva; post-S11 reunion)

Weekend Tag
Tagged by the incomparable @mrsmungus
The rules are simple. Share the last sentence you wrote and tag as many people as there are words to play along, too. (Or tag more, tag less, I'm not the tag police.)
This is the fic I came back to last weekend, aka the first writing I'd done in two months.
Now it is his partner receiving the call, its unexpected cry piercing the veil of darkness over their bedroom, tearing the intertwined couple out of innocent slumber.

Oooh, your WIP list is fascinating. Normally mine looks a lot more like that too, but the inspiration has been running low lately. I'd most like to know about to be wanted (by you) and Separation Anxiety, please and thankyou!
I'm very low on inspiration, too. I need the tiva spin-off. Right. Now.
I got the idea for to be wanted (by you) from a post here. It's a tag to the episode where Tony thinks he's going to be on the NCIS recruitment poster or whatever, and at the end they choose Gibbs instead. Ziva tries to console him by pointing out that his shoulder made it onto the poster. In the fic, Tony is still moping later that day and Ziva endeavors to...help him through it. There is also some Ziva introspection about her instinct to absorb the emotions of others because I can't resist. Here's a snippet:
Now she caught herself. Did she sense when Gibbs was displeased with his agents’ meager findings on a case? Yes. Could she perceive Abby’s disappointment over McGee missing their friendiversary? Of course. But that was where it stopped, the awareness. She no longer felt the need to mitigate the emotions of others. Except, perhaps, when it came to Tony DiNozzo. Granted, it took concerted effort to ignore her partner’s antics on a good day. Years of practice afforded Ziva the ability to block out his incessant chatter and non-stop pop culture references, most of which she didn’t understand anyway. She could convince herself his over-the-top whines were wind chimes and his boisterous laughter the twittering of happy birds. The days passed smoothly if she achieved such delusion.  What she could not do so easily was dismiss Tony when he was hurt, even if the wound was to his ego rather than his flesh.
Separation Anxiety is Tivali in Paris, post 17x11, focusing on Ziva acclimating to family life. It's one of those pieces that I wrote a draft for, but I've never been able to continue it in a way that makes me happy. Maybe someday.
This was the pattern since she returned. To be with Tali. That’s how it started. To claw back time, the nearly four years they lost. Daylight hours were not enough. Ziva would climb in after Tony read exactly two picture books (or two chapters of a chapter book). Lullabies sung. A few whispers. Then sleep.  At the farmhouse, the reverse had been true. Tali knew only Ziva’s bed the first year, an arrangement of convenience for 3 a.m. nursings. The routine continued as Tali grew and Ziva grew accustomed to her little girl snuggled to her body, as if trying to return in-womb. Tali’s “big girl bed” in her “big girl room” was merely a prop after sunset.  Secretly, Ziva loved it. It was in that bedroom Tali was conceived; it was there that Tony gave her hope again, a reason to fight and live. How her daughter ever learned to walk was a wonder! The hours she was not holding her child close, on a hip or fully against her chest, were so few. Even in sleep, it was hard to let go.  Now, she clung to school-going Tali not in awe, but fear.
Thanks for the interest!! *hugs*
