#so add that to the 'things that make this horrible for homura' list

To be fair, in a hypothetical HomuSaya AU, Kyouko's dynamic with Sayaka would be way different when Sayaka has an overprotective overpowered protector hovering over her at every moment. Hard agree on the rest of what you wrote though, it wouldn't go well for Homu
I get what you mean but a big part of me feels like Kyoko couldn't care less wether or not Homura is hovering over Sayaka's shoulder, and because Sayaka is Sayaka she'll still end up stricking a chord in Kyoko regardless.
In fact, Kyoko probably enjoys messing with Homura over this, and she definitely does it in every. single. loop. always.
Kyoko: "Hm, maybe I'll pay blue a little visit later on-"Homura, visibly angry: *holds a broken pencil in her hands and glares at Kyoko from across the room*
Threats using guns definitely happened more than once too. This is peak wlw hostility and the only slightly comedic thing about this.

A list of things Homura did wrong and why I don’t blame her for them.
1. Give Madoka the warning without context or giving Sayaka a warning.
Okay, she looked crazy enough saying what she did, what do you think would happen if she talked about witches etc. Also Sayaka’s reaction to her was worse than Madoka’s, besides the fact that Homura does this FOR Madoka, not Sayaka, because as you know, all magical girls have some degree of selfishness (ya know, besides Madoka at the end. At the start she just wanted to be special).
2. Attempt to kill Kyubey, and end up looking like the bad guy to Sayaka, Mami and Madoka. Also not using her time stopping abilities for this.
Okay, I admit this was a little stupid, but if I had repeated a month-or-so about 100 times I would probably be pissed at Kyubey enough to do this as well. As Kyubey said in the park after Homura shot him yes she did use her time stopping abilities, she just had to unfreeze for new Incubators to appear when she shot one.
3. Attempt to kill Sayaka.
She did this after offering to purify Sayaka’s soul gem, and would have stopped her from suffering the transformation into a witch. Also I’m pretty sure we all know that Homura has gone a bit loopy after all her time as a magical girl. Remember when Madoka asked her to kill her, and remember how Homura worshiped Madoka? She probably thinks that if Madoka thought death was better than despair, everyone would share the same belief.
4. Just being a seemingly cold heartless bitch throughout the series. Also not explaining stuff.
Uh guys, she does this to protect herself. Before you say this is stupid or whatever, take a moment to remember she’s fourteen, and has seen stuff a lot of adults haven’t. Not to mention all she went through before she became a magical girl. She has said before that she has tried to explain before but no-one believes her. We all know she assumes the Madoka in all the timelines to be the same (at least I think she does), so she probably expects the same recations from people no matter the timeline.
6. Her wish.
Yes, it was selfish to wish to become stronger so she could protect Madoka, but most wishes are selfish. She has spent her whole life weak, don’t you think she would jump at the chance to be the hero for once. You can kind of compare her actions here to Sayaka’s, making a selfless wish for selfish reasons. I think when Homura really started to consider Madoka her best friend she changed her goal from “be her knight in shining armour” to “save her. Save her. SAVE HER”. So yeah, she was in the wrong but it’s understandable. Also remember she didn’t know doing this would make Madoka’s fate worse in each timeline.
5. Telling Kyubey about witches and Madoka etc.
Yeah, I admit this was stupid. She was desperate for confirmation that she wasn’t just imagining Madoka and the other world, and after no one else took her seriously she made the dumbass mistake to tell Incubator. The same thing that omits details about you becoming a giant murderous monster, the same thing she fought against for years.
6. Attacking Bebe and fighting Mami.
Yep, she really should have thought about it first, but I’m pretty sure she’s used to having knowledge about all the whats and whys, and not having that made her thought process go “witch + labyrinth = witch must have created labyrinth”. Kinda rash but understandable. Hey, this is both Mami and Homura’s fault. They could have just heard each other out instead of Mami thinking Homura was going insane (“what’s happened to you”), and Homura deciding that since Mami has never understood in the past, she sure won’t understand now.
7. Shooting Mami in the leg.
Oh please, we all know this wouldn’t kill or permanently damage, just temporarily disable. Also Mami didn’t even get hurt, so no harm no foul.
8. The end of Rebellion, you know what I’m talking about.
…I’m pretty sure I’ve made a post on this before, but oh well. I’m just going to do dot points.
- Homura was mentally unstable at this point, her life was a mess of a heart condition with no parental guidance> bullying> seeing her friends die over and over> finding out the dark truth (remember she went to a Catholic school, how do you think the soul thing hit her?)> the one she tried so hard to protect becoming a concept “a fate worse than death”> no-one believing her about Madoka> becoming a witch which is known to be absolutely horrible, think about the amount of despair Homura’s witch would have.
- As I said earlier, her past was bad enough without the magical girl thing, add that in and this girl has gone through some horrible stuff.
- She’s gone through the same time about 100 times, each time ending in tragedy. Many people would go insane over this.
- Madoka was going to erase Homura’s soul. Enough said.
- What Madoka said in the flower scene, you know what I mean.
- Sayaka and Nagisa got to get a second chance at being human, Kyoko gets to go to school, Mami has a friend, and Madoka gets to have a normal happy life.
- Godoka still exists and is destroying witches, while Homura is fighting the wraiths by herself. If anyone gets the short straw it’s actually Homura.
So no, Homura isn’t perfect, but in the very least she’s understandable. Despite what she may say, she’s human, and humans make mistakes. Honestly her dedication and perseverance are admirable.
Oh feel free to comment anything you’d like me to add or change.
