Field Log #14
I told you I could do this shit early k told you I am on the ball I am the greatest actually fuck you Birch
Cave observations. Sure is a cave. Grimer and Koffing once again proving that not even Arceus could make them clear out from a habitat they want to stay in. They've got no other poison type competition from what I can tell apart from the invasive Salandit, and they honestly seem to be chill. I think the Koffing are feeding off of the gasses the Salandit give off, and the Grimer are staying well-fed somehow. I'm not sure how. It doesn't seem like the tourist trash should be enough, but these guys aren't being aggressive. They're acting like well-fed city Grimer honestly.
Did you know that apparently people breed these little guys to have different shaped markings? It's usually not too big of a problem from what I can tell, but if you make the markings too small or too large (hello Sarin) you end up with Problems. Apparently the problems can range from the Salandit not being able to properly excrete the toxins it creates to it creating way too much toxin at once and igniting way too violently. We've really fucked up these little guys lmao
I know lmao isn't proper smart guy speak shit the fuck up Birch you have no joy and no whimsy
Anyways this place seems to have every documented native species still present apart from Machop and Tyrogue. Guess they couldn't take the heat or smth.
Even these little guys are still here. No idea what they're called over here, I'm sure there's a Hoennian on this website who could help me out.

Field Log ???
"Redo the field log Skipp this sounds like the diary of a psychiatric patient" okay you know what how about YOU get stalked through the desert by a pack of maneating cacti for two days and then we'll talk about crazy shit. Fucking whatever.
Maybe I am going crazy, I don't know. I wouldn't blame me. This entire job has been one ordeal after the other. I thought being a trainer was supposed to be fun. And hey, some of it has been. The whole battling thing, that's my shit. I'm living for it. Nearly getting eaten alive by Cacturnes, sliced to pieces by a Bisharp, getting terrorized by those fucking dogs everywhere I go? No. Why is that 90% of this fucking job?
And don't even get me started of the Team Magma shit, at least some of the grunts are making nearly drowning in lava almost worth it. That shit isn't even in the job description, I'm just the only one here and willing to make sure the region doesn't explode.
Shit, I'm just ranting again. Maybe I do need a fucking journal. Dammit.
What can I report? Weird amount of ice types, I guess. You'd think they wouldn't like it up here, but apparently Alolan Vulpix are built different. They like the heat. They're doing way better than the Snover that got dumped out here. Or the Galarian Darumaka.
Why the fuck are there so many ice types? It's colder here than the rest of Hoenn, sure, but there's no snow or ice or even a cold cave.
Maybe I should double-check that I actually saw all of that. Maybe I dreamt it like I dreamt up those cloudy-looking Growlithe. I mean, that had to have been a dream, right? I only saw it for a second, I don't know.
Whatever. I'll clean this up later and send it in to Professor Bitch. I could just lie, not like he'd have any way of knowing.

[A video is attached. It's of the inside of the Rusturf Tunnel, focused on Bombardier the Aron as she moves and shatters large piles of rubble. She seems to be slowly but surely clearing a path, bashing through rocks and occasionally stopping to munch a few.
From behind the camera, Skipp begins talking, the distinctive Celadon accent in his voice slicing through the empty air of the cave.
Skipp: Yeah, so, consider this to be my field log. You didn't say shit about them having to be in writing, and if you've got a problem with that you can just bend over and—
Skipp's voice is momentarily drowned out by the sound of Bombardier charging into a particularly large rock, cracking it straight down the middle with her head. He becomes audible again as the two halves of the rock fall down and the Aron starts sniffing them.
Skipp: —and I don't give a shit how much it hurts you. Anyway. Bombardier and I've been clearing this tunnel for a good fucking second now. I've been in here before, and I remember seeing a lot, and I mean a lot of those fucked up Meowth. They're gone now. Everything's gone. It's been dead quiet this whole time, and honestly, I'm starting to get the creeps.
Just then, Bombardier looks over her shoulder and chirps at Skipp, cueing him to start walking over to the small steel type.
Skipp: Thank the fuckin' trio, finally. Good work, Bombi.
With a harsh sigh, he bends down and pets the Aron, completely unflinching as she presses her head up into his hand. As he stands back up, his back cracks subtly.
Skipp: Alright, now we can finally get the fuck out of—
As he pans the camera over, it's revealed that a group of Whismur is standing huddled on the other side of the cleared path, staring directly at Skipp. They stare each other down for a few seconds, both parties in some level of shock.
Skipp: ... Hey. So. Do you like J—.
Before he can finish his sentence, every Whismur screams at once, causing the mic to clip as the video goes choppy. Skipp can vaguely be heard yelling curses just over the Whismur screams. Then, the video cuts out.]

Field Log #16
Still haven't found the source of all the Pawniard, but I'm getting closer. I can tell.
The bright side to getting attacked over and over again is that I can tell that these guys are way more established than a lot of the other populations I've seen. They've got blades specialized for hunting pokemon native to this area. Guess that's what happened to all the Machop. There's also a few of them that had clumps of ash stuck to their blades. It kinda looks like they were collecting it, but I couldn't tell you why. I'm not an ashologist.
I am going to be putting this line of investigation on hold for a bit, though. I've wandered a little off-course and wound up at Lake May. Apparently there's been a strange pokemon spotted in there. Could be an albino Gyarados, could be an invasive water mon, or it could be an undiscovered legendary. Might as well hang around for a bit and see if I can figure out what it is.
I wonder if I could get it named after me if it's an undiscovered species. Scientific discoveries or whatever.

Field Log #15
Not marking this as late Birchboy. It counts if I was in the middle of writing it and passed out. Why? Because I said so, fuck off.
Anyways, this is one long ass route. I wonder how many people come down here not prepared enough and just straight up die. I've been getting Sarin trained a bit on the Pawniard I keep finding her and there. Could've sworn these guys lived in groups with their final evolution at the head though? I remember hearing that in an anime once. Though, the Pawniard in this anime were also more like people and they built a whole village, so maybe this isn't an accurate thing. I'm not a scientist.
All the ones I've been seeing seem to be loners. Either that, or there's a big ass group somewhere deeper within the route, and these are just scouts.
I might need to investigate that, actually. A massive group of invasive Pawniard somewhere deep in the route might throw off the balance of nature just a bit. Especially if these guys are anything like people.

Field Log #13
I don't know how, but I managed to get sand under my beanie, under my eyepatch, and in my pants. What and also the fuck.
At least I managed to get back on track. Route 112's been uneventful. Beyond an apparent population of released Salandit (Sarin being the largest one I've found so far), there's also a large population of Vulpix that seem to have been brought over from Mt. Pyre. They're currently in competition with an invasive Nickit, and they seem to be outcompeting them due to their type making them a better fit for the environment here. They both seem to be preying on the invasive Sizzlipede. It's a real dog-eat-dog world out here.
Speaking of dogs: there's also Growlithe here too. So I'm sleeping in the cave. This is fine. It's warm in here. Cozy actually. I'll be observing the wildlife here overnight. I'll try to have another report ready in the morning.
Stupid fucks won't stop howling. Can't sleep with that shit even if I wanted to. Loud ass mutts, hope the Numel kill them off.

Field Log #12 (LATE)
Okay so I may have partied a little too hard to write a coherent field log last night. Fucking sue me, it's not like there's a lot of wild mons in Mauville anyway.
It's actually kind of eerie how few wild pokemon are in here. I mean, back in Celadon, you couldn't walk down the street without tripping over a Spearow or Pidgey trying to harass you for pocket crumbs. If you wanted to hide out in the sewers, you had to contend with Grimer and Muk. Sometimes at night you'd have to deal with getting swooped by Zubat or occasionally getting mildly haunted by a Gastly. Here? I mean, the top is open air, so any bird pokemon or climbing pokemon willing to make that trek can get up there, but the interior is all trainer-owned. I've seen a few Grimer and Trubbish that I thought were wild, but then it turns out that they belonged to the janitorial staff.
It's fucking weird. I don't like it. I'm gonna get the team ready to challenge this next gym and get the fuck outta this place. The Game Corner's fun and all, but my brain feels like it's in a cloud and I can't deal with that shit.

Field Log #11
Finally found a reason to give a shit courtesy of a surprise Joltik infestation on Route 110. They were mostly localized in the nature path beneath Cycling Road, but I know there's gotta be some over on Route 103 as well bc I slept on that route and woke up tikdrained. Hate that this is why I'm actually starting to give a hot fuck about this job apart from just not wanting to disappoint ma, but if it'll make being out here a little less miserable, I'll take it.
I'm going to keep an eye out for them in Mauville while I'm prepping to fight the gym here. From what the locals have told me, this place seems to have a really secure power grid built to withstand another Rayquaza Crisis type situation, but the legendaries got nothing on a pack of hungry tiks. Not only were they threatening to royally fuck the grid, but I found a few on the wild Electrike in the area. Some of the weaker members of the pack seemed to be struggling until we got the things off. Telling you, these things suck any electrical source dry. Doesn't matter if it's sentient or not.

Field Log #10
Back on the road again. I didn't get a whole lot of research done today since I'm still getting used to being back on the grind, but I guess I can talk about the shit I saw in Slateport.
For starters, I noticed a fuckton of feral Yamper. I'm not sure if they count as invasive or whatever, but they were everywhere at night, digging through trash cans and shit. I remember there was a similar problem in Celadon the last I saw of it. People thought they were cute and found ways to get them imported from Galar to raise and breed, then started releasing them when they realized how easily bored they are and how much space they need to run around. I guess this is karma biting me in the ass or something.
There's also a small population of Toxel near Cycling Road that seems to be outcompeting the native Plusle and Minun. I'm guessing something similar happened with these guys and that's why they're here. Toxicitry look cool as fuck. Maybe I'll see about adding one to the team once I get some more resources. Toxel are a pain in the ass though, so maybe not.
Beyond that, I was too busy dealing with evil team bullshit to do any work. Some researcher doing field studies got their shit kicked in by these pirate cosplayers calling themselves Team Neo-Aqua. I've run into them a few times at this point, and motherfucker they've landed on my list. Not for the scientist thing, but they keep getting in my damn way.

Field Log #8
Not much to report today but I did see a Pelipper try to swallow a whole ass Mantine. It just sat on the thing's back and repeatedly tried to fit a whole flipper in its mouth. It didn't succeed but it was really trying for a minute there. Hubris incarnate.
I guess the Mantine are something of note. They're not native to this part of Hoenn from what I've heard, but they also don't seem to be hurting anything. There aren't any Remoraid around here for them to guard, but I saw one jump out of the water with a Finneon, so I guess they keep an eye on those now? I can't know for sure until I actually get out into the ocean. I'm willing to walk across every square inch of Hoenn for this dumb job, but not even Arceus itself could get me to fish.
If I had to guess, these guys were probably originally brought from Alola by surfers. I have no evidence for this except that Mantine surfing is a thing there and it's kind of kickass.

Granite Cave seems largely unaffected by the invasive population. Not that there aren't any in there, just that the native population seems to be getting along with them way easier. All of the usual native species are accounted for, no drop in population.
The main thing the locals are telling me is that they've gotten stronger in response to the new species. Makes sense, that big guy could've totaled a car with one hand. Hariyama, I think? Apparently they've been beefing with the Stonjourner that have set up a territory further into the cave. Yeah, if you're picking fights with a living pile of boulders on the daily, you're gonna get swole. Makes sense.

Field Log #6
Fuck this region and fuck its weak ass tunnel design fuck
Okay, now that that's out of my system: Rusturf Tunnel is apparently more prone to cave-ins than it ever has been due to invasive Galarian Meowth disturbing the native Whismur population. The screams of the damn things keep caving in the tunnel because Hoennians can't do subterranean construction to save their lives. It's currently caved in and blocking the path to Verdanturf.
Some grunt type found that out the hard way, gave me these stolen goods as a payment for saving his dumb ass. I was going to just keep them, sell them to get supplies for the team, but nope. Some Devon guy intercepted me as soon as I made it back to Rustboro.
So, now I have to deliver a package to Dewford and a letter to Slateport. Or was it the other way around? Don't know, don't care. So long as Don Stone back there doesn't cap my ass, I'm keeping my knowledge of this shit to a minimum. This wasn't my business, I don't know what makes it my business now.
This is becoming more like a fucking journal than a field log, I should stop. What to end with? Hmm.
Lumpy hit a Finneon with a stick from a moving boat. That was pretty sick.

The bug type native species are still all here, but they're a bit more elusive than they apparently were in the past. I'm guessing that has to do with the fact that someone let some Scyther, Pinsir, and Heracross in here. The Pinsir and Heracross are duking it out like always, but the Scyther in here really seem to have a bone to pick with the Pinsir population. I've been watching these two bite each other for like thir
forest is full of bastards

Field Log #2
Snom apparently "doesn't count as an invasive" here because almost every report Professor Bitch* has received about them has been them basically being like how I found Big Gulp. That being half-melted in the grass and overall being kinda pathetic. They're not supposed to be here why isn't that enough what else IS an invasive for fuck's sake
At least I found something. Apparently, most of Route 102's native pokemon have been scared off by other non-native species. I don't know who planted this big ass apple tree just off the route but Applin love that shit. They also really hate the new bug types on the route. I was trying to train Big Gulp and one of them threw itself at me trying to get me to leave. Little shit nearly hit me in the head, what the fuck, not like you're supposed to be here either.
The only native species I was able to find in the grass was Ralts. They kinda seem to be able to chill things out between the different species whenever they show up. I've never seen these guys before, but they are pretty cool. I wouldn't want to punch them either, they're just little guys.
*No I am not going to correct your name in these field notes, die mad about it. My journal, my rules.

Field Log #1
There's an invasive population of Rookidee on Route 103. Apparently those shits are from Galar? They've driven out the native Wingull in the area, and they seem to have completely eliminated the Chatot population too. The only bird pokemon left are ones that can put up a fight like Starly and Fletchinder, and they've all got their own separate areas of the route that they've made into their own territory. There are feathers everywhere, it's a mess.
Also apparently there's a population of Growlithe in Mt. Pyre that got pushed down here. I vote that we find some way to put them back right the fuck now. Or just remove them from the region. Or from life. Delete them from the genetic record.
