A soft afternoon
Sonic/Elise, no warnings, just some fluff :]
992 words
The two burst out laughing, and take a moment to enjoy the sound of each other’s joy. Appreciate one another’s happiness as their laughter fades to snickers, before it dies down, leaving only smiles on their faces.
It’s a calm afternoon in Soleanna. Elise has a bit of free time, for once. No pressing meetings for the day, no important documents to be written or checked, no decisive matters to be decided.
Just a single afternoon for her.
Which means it’s the ideal day for some tea on her balcony, just enjoying the view her room grants. The sea breeze brushes her hair in the most comforting of ways. The day is the right temperature too, not too hot, not too cold, the sun is just warm enough, and the gentle wind refreshes any heat that might’ve been too much. She can hear the hustle of the city, watch as the people she loves so much bustle through the center of the town in their affairs.
For once, she can breathe and just enjoy herself.
What a perfect day.
Elise closes her eyes and feels the fresh breeze and the warm sun on her skin.
There’s some clinking noises as one of the castle’s maidens sets down a plate of biscuits on the table the princess sits at.
“Thank you, Agatha,” Elise gives a small bow as the lady sets down two more plates with more treats for her. The lady-in-waiting just smiles back. “Of course, Miss Elise.”
Elise watches as the maiden leaves her room with a bow of her own, “if you need anything, just call for me.” The girl smiles, “I know. Thank you, Agatha. Truly.”
They trade smiles before the door to her room is closed and Elise turns back to watch the ocean lap at Soleanna’s shore.
She feels the sea breeze brush against her while she picks up a biscuit.
Just as she bites down on the treat, and feels the sweet taste fill her mouth, the wind picks up.
Suddenly, the soft breeze turns much stronger. The taste of sea salt in the air turns to something much more like ozone, as the gust whips her hair and tugs on her dress.
Before she can even wonder if it’s a sudden summer rain, a warm and familiar feeling fills her chest. Like a pull in direction, she knows just what it is.
Or rather who it is.
She swallows the bite she had in her mouth just as a blue hedgehog throws himself over the balcony and does a few flips in the air. From where she’s sat, the girl can make a grin on his lips. She watches as he then lands in a pose that serves as both a safe landing for his knees, and a mock-bow.
The human claps for the performance, giggling all the while. She clears her voice of laughter before announcing in a gaudy voice, “good, good,” she says, “this time, you deserve a seven out of ten.” She pouts her lips in a fanciful manner.
The blue teenager looks up from his bow with a frown, “only a seven? That’s just a five for when you don’t wanna admit it’s a five!” He cries with fake outrage, before meeting Elise’s eyes, who finally bursts with laughter, not managing to keep a straight face any more. It’s not long before he, too, can’t contain his giggles and laughter escapes him.
The two take a few moments to just laugh together, enjoy the sound of the other’s happiness, before it dies down, leaving only smiles on their faces.
Sonic lets out a final laugh before lifting his head. “Hey,” he says with a soft smile.
Elise nods back to him with a bright one, unable to contain her joy at seeing him, “hello, Sonic. Care to join me?” She motions with her head to the table filled with sweet treats and warm tea.
Sonic grins, eyeing the pastries resting on the plates, “don’t mind if I do!” The hero pulls the second chair surrounding the small, round table on the balcony and hops up on it.
She waits for him to adjust himself on the chair, before she picks up the teapot. “Tea?” She offers.
“You know I would never refuse,” he smirks as he picks up one of the biscuits and motions with it, “you always have great tea.” He takes a bite before making a delighted sound, “and great cookies! Mh, so good.”
“They are very good aren’t they? I do love their cookies.” She finishes filling his cup up with the warm liquid. “I enjoy all of the foods the chefs make, but their baking is always on point.” Elise picks up a biscuit of her own and stares at the chocolate covering it. She raises the pastry, waiting for Sonic, who quickly sits up on his knees to raise himself to reach where she’s holding her sweet so they can meet.
Sonic gives a toothy grin while Elise smiles so hard, her eyes close. “Cheers,” they say together.
The human girl takes a bite and makes a delighted sound like her boyfriend did just moments earlier. “I can’t deny I do have a bit of a sweet tooth. I love a good cookie.” She grins at him with a twinkle in her eyes before devouring her own treat.
The blue hero lets out a laugh, “man, I gotta get you to meet Vanilla, someday, I’m sure you’ll love her baking too!” He picks a bruschetta up, something savory for the previous sweet and takes a bite. “Oh! I’ve also got to take you to Apotos,” he says with his mouth full. “They have the best ice cream I’ve ever had, and I’ve had ice cream!” He says with emphasis and a grin.
Elise laughs as her boyfriend regales her with tales of his adventures with foods all over the world, and as she shares her own misadventures with cooking, as the sun dips to meet the ocean in the most lovely of colors, with the city bustle slowing down as the day comes to an end, she’s sure.
What a perfect day indeed.
