ORDER / CHAOS: Expressive drawing

Today, you will use sight, sound and touch to explore form, structure, texture, movement and time, using a range of drawing methodologies.  You will develop skills in the manipulation of the formal elements of pattern, texture, color, structure and composition to record and communicate your ideas.

You will work through a number of drawing tasks which will encourage you to think about all your senses and how you can use them to record the world around you using exciting and thought provoking processes, resulting in a range of expressive drawings.

You should record EVERYTHING through photography and video, which you will present in your work book in your self directed study time.

Sensory drawing: Sound

Initially, you will create a series of drawings influenced by listening to several different genres of music.  You will consider extremes such as:

·       Slow / fast ·       Quiet / loud ·       High / low ·       Rhythmic / off beat ·       Smooth / Staccato ·       Major / Minor ·       Harmonious / Discordant ·       Scored / improvised

You will then further develop your drawings using a variety of media- pencil, charcoal, ink, marker pen, ink, tape etc. You will explore visual metaphors to music through the repetition of shape, movement, rhythm, variety, pattern, texture.

Homework Self-Directed Study

Ensure all drawings are photographed and evidenced in your sketchbook/ Instagram/ blog.  In your workbook, print out photos, or stick in drawings that show the development of your work over the workshop today.  Brief annotations can be added, with evaluations in your journal.

Choose your favourite drawing from today, and ensure a photograph is in your sketchbook. Fully evaluate the strengths and weaknesses within this piece explaining what you have learned in your journal.

Choose an artist relevant to your favourite drawing- the style, materials, process etc. Some examples are below. Fully evaluate one of these artist’s drawings and link aspects of their work to your own drawing.

It's almost time to retire my old sketchbook - I'll miss that cover, It's definitely my favourite since I started plastering stickers onto my covers.

But as I retire my old one (With the exception of transferring model sheets and the like for Bad Moon Rising's development,) I realized what I could do for my new sketchbook: And that was to plaster my rarepair all over it, because this ship threw me from my balcony, and to be frank with you all, I thanked it.

All of these are works by artists on Redbubble, which has some quality product and art for not too steep a price! I'm so happy I was able to get my hands on these, and I'm actually considering buying some of these as shirts because. Well. LOOK AT THEM.

May this be a year to remember ❤️

I uploaded my art online for the first time on this day 8 years ago. It was a little drawing of May with a sweater, just like this one!

Back then I had no idea where art would take me, nor am I really sure today. Yet, I find some comfort in dwelling in the things I’ve always loved, as well as getting to share them with others like me.

I’m glad I had the courage to share my work again this year. Thanks to everybody who’s supported me on this journey! ❤️🤍❤️
