Delights and Dangers of Ambiguity (Improvisations 2017 - 2022) by Buck Curran

Delights and Dangers of Ambiguity is an outlier in Buck Curran’s catalog, in that it is a collection of improvisational experiments. Even still, there is a tie that binds these tunes to Curran’s overall oeuvre: a focus on resonance. Throughout his career — whether with his ex-partner Shanti as Arborea or on his own — the artist, multi-instrumentalist and luthier explores ways of extending a note’s sonic envelope via extended techniques. This has led Curran, who drinks from the overflowing Takoma School cup and draws influence from blues-influenced folk music, to align himself with the psychedelic folk scene of the northeastern United States. With this song cycle he strays from both orbits, instead carving a path through dissonance and darker hued textures. Curran is searching within his shadowy side, poking at unexplored pockets of his psychic apparatus, revealing an instinctual drive toward the polychromatic.

While Curran commonly employs the guitar in his arsenal, he’s also adept at the piano. He demonstrates his ivory tickling skills on the title track, a brooding modal piece that balances dark and light tones. The alien timbres of the piano suggest implements within the strings of the instrument. Curran propels swarms of buzzing melodies into the air and sears strange glyphs across the visual field. This synaesthesia is common across his body of work. Curran’s particular brand of psychedelia does not require any substances; his music itself opens the mind. 

Curran is a serial collaborator, and some of these pieces find him selecting friends and confederates with whom to jointly experiment. On “Gemini Sun, Gemini Rising,” he enlists the help of cellist Helena Espvall (Espers, Anahita), who was a regular Arborea associate. The pair coax writhing phantasms from their strings, with Curran’s guitar producing intertwined streams of uncanny melody across Espvall’s arco environments. Composer Hiroya Miura lays down a delicate and impressionistic piano passage on “Mugen no Umi no Iro.” Curran fights not to overpower the sprightly tinkling, instead choosing to dissolve into the background so that Miura can shine. Eventually the pair seem to lock horns in a subtle dance of keyboard and guitar. “Slow Air” is a short folk guitar tune accompanied by organ drones from Jodi Pedrali, an Italian musician; Curran currently lives in Bergamo with his wife and kids. 

Some of these songs are centered on lyricism rather than dissonance. “Prelude in D Minor” roots itself in an evocative piano melody before diving down a rabbit hole of guitar drone, while the ultra-short “1894 (Coda)” eschews the guitar altogether, instead focusing on a hypnotic keyboard passage with notes that ring out to infinity. Resonance and sustain are never far from the core of all these pieces. Curran toys with these concepts, turning them over in his mind and creating sonic microcosms. We’re fortunate to imbibe the tasty auditory brew that results.

Differenze pesanti tra lavoratori di genere maschile e femminile in ambito bancario ma solo quando si tratta di fare carriera e di raggiungere posizioni dirigenziali. Un divario che, giocoforza, si fa sentire anche sui salari, e poi sulle pensioni, nella città “quartier generale“ dei principali gruppi bancari e assicurativi. Una fotografia che emerge da una rilevazione della Fisac-Cgil Lombardia, sulla base di dati nazionali ed elaborazioni sul territorio lombardo: "Esiste uno scalo di impietosa evidenza che divide le bancarie nel passaggio all’area dei quadri direttivi". La maggior parte delle donne, quindi, resta ferma al livello impiegatizio, con dinamiche immutate nel tempo nonostante le campagne e i buoni propositi sul lavoro femminile e la riduzione del gender pay gap. Da un’indagine condotta nei cinque principali gruppi bancari il cui campione è rappresentativa di oltre la metà dell’intera popolazione bancaria (contratto Abi) e in cui la presenza di genere è praticamente paritaria (76.284 donne a fronte di 76.655 uomini a livello nazionale) la distribuzione di genere nelle categorie professionali del campione fa emergere come le impiegate siano il 65% (54% gli uomini), i quadri donne il 33% (43% gli uomini) e lo 0,7% le donne dirigenti (1,3% gli uomini). Emerge quindi il fenomeno della "segregazione verticale": alle donne vengono preclusi i ruoli apicali e restano confinate nell’area impiegatizia. “I fattori sono molteplici – spiega Simona Pedrali, segretaria della Fisac-Cgil Lombardia – ma una delle cause scatenanti del divario resta sempre la maternità. Sono tantissime le donne che, quando hanno un figlio, al rientro dalla maternità optano per un orario part time o per scelte che finiscono per precludere possibilità di carriera. Sono ancora molto rari gli uomini che usufruiscono dei congedi facoltativi e, quando succede, notiamo che vengono esclusi da avanzamenti di ruolo e opportunità professionali, con dinamiche penalizzanti simili a quelle che subiscono le donne. Resta un forte problema culturale che non si riesce ancora a scalfire, nonostante il lavoro femminile rappresenti una grande risorsa per il mondo bancario". Da questa base partono le richieste messe sul tavolo dalla Fisac-Cgil: "L’introduzione di politiche trasparenti per la valutazione e la promozione basate sul merito, la realizzazione di una maggiore flessibilità lavorativa che non penalizzi in termini retributivi, e l’implementazione di misure di supporto quali servizi di cura accessibili e congedi parentali equi". Durante la trattativa che ha portato al recente rinnovo del contratto nazionale di lavoro del settore bancario sono state avanzate una serie di proposte per colmare il divario salariale che "solo in parte sono state approvate", come la retribuzione piena per i periodi di astensione dal lavoro per maternità a rischio. *Diputados de UxP desafían a Milei: quieren convertir en Ley el proyecto "Compra sin IVA"*

_La iniciativa retoma las características del programa implementado por el ex ministro de Economía de la Nación, Sergio Massa.

Actualmente es impulsado por la diputada bonaerense Victoria Tolosa Paz y lleva la firma de 33 legisladores de 13 provincias._

Un nutrido grupo de diputadas y diputados de Unión por la Patria presentó ayer en el Congreso Nacional un proyecto de Ley destinado a implementar el programa “Compra sin IVA” como política de Estado, con el objeto de reducir la carga impositiva que recae sobre los bienes de la Canasta Básica Alimentaria (CBA). De esta forma, se busca alivianar el impacto de la crisis en la economía de las familias y reactivar el consumo minorista en todo el país.

La presentación se produce tras conocerse el dato del desplome del salario real del 13,1% y el incremento del 30,1% de la CBA en el mes de diciembre. En la misma línea, cayó el consumo minorista 28,5% según la Confederación Argentina de la Mediana Empresa (CAME) y los jubilados perdieron el 32,5% interanual según los datos de la Oficina de Presupuesto del Congreso (OPC).

El proyecto de Ley retoma las características del programa implementado durante el año pasado por iniciativa del ex ministro de Economía de la Nación, Sergio Massa, que estuvo vigente hasta diciembre del 2023.

Siguiendo esta línea, el proyecto está dirigido a trabajadores en relación de dependencia, jubilados y pensionados que perciban hasta 6 SMVM; pequeños contribuyentes inscriptos en el Régimen Simplificado; trabajadoras y trabajadores de casas particulares; titulares de la AUH, de la AUE, Potenciar Trabajo y Tarjeta Alimentar. En todos los casos, siempre que no tributen Ganancias, Bienes Personales o estén inscriptos como autónomos.

Para este segmento de la población, se preve la devolución del impuesto al valor agregado (IVA) de las compras realizadas cada mes, por un monto máximo equivalente al IVA contenido en una CBA para un hogar tipo 2. En el mes de enero, el INDEC registró el valor de la CBA de hogar tipo 2 en $240.679, por lo que, el reintegro sería de hasta $41.770.

*“En este contexto de suba inflacionaria y pérdida del poder adquisitivo, los argentinos y las argentinas necesitan que legislemos para darles soluciones. _“Compre Sin IVA”_ fue una medida impulsada por Sergio Massa que benefició a más de 18 millones de argentinos. Por eso, las diputadas y los diputados de UxP queremos que se convierta en ley”, explicó Tolosa Paz.*

Vale destacar, en un contexto de discusión entre los gobernadores y Javier Milei, que el proyecto de ley establece que: “El presente régimen será financiado con la partida presupuestaria asignada a tal efecto por la citada cartera ministerial (Ministerio de Economía), *no afectando la coparticipación federal”.*
