Windsong was dozing near one of the ruined walls of Wolekdorf.  The amaro still found it surprising how often she could sleep in the glaring light that shined down from the sky.
She woke to hear the settlement abuzz with murmurers, gwees and krrrs of excitement.  Curious what got the normally restful group all excited she opened her chocolate eyes to see a rare sight.
There standing in front of Nimbus overtly speaking to him was a mortal.  How they'd gotten this far into Il Mheg without being harassed by the Pixies or the Fauth was a surprise.
It was a Viis by all appearances, female of course since no males had ever been seen outside of their Woods. Deep crimson locks of hair fell down her shoulders parts of it pulled back by a small band with a pair of flowers attached to it.  Wispy bangs fell across kind leaf green eyes that looked into Nimbus's paying attention to what the amaro had to say.  Her garb was simple but practical on her hips on either side was a thin rapier and a curious looking crystal.
The aura the woman had felt gentle, soothing and kind.  Windsong found herself drawn toward this woman without understanding why.  She hadn't wanted anything to do with men since just before the fall of Voeburt.
The bitter memory rose unbidden in the amaro's mind.  It was the day she had discovered she could speak.  Long had she heard her beloved master talking with his clients and her as they traveled the length and breath of the kingdom aiding in the various projects.
It had taken some time but she had finally found she had a voice and was eager to respond to her master's kind words. She waited in her stable her entire body all but quivering with excitement her wings fluttering in anticipation.
In he came opening her stall stating, "Morning Windsong ready for a long flight girl,"
She had bobbed her head happily gweeing in excitement then stated, "Of course Master, where will we fly today?"
The man's eyes had widened in shock and at first no sound came from his lips.  He began to tremble and the amaro became concerned.
"Master, what's wrong are you alright?" she asked worriedly
The man then bolted from the stable screaming in terror and ran back to his home.   Confused the amaro had followed him only to hear the door barred and see the man peeking out of the window terrified.
Krrring in confusion Windsong had sat there in front of his door waiting for him to come out so they could start their journey for the day.  Hours passed and the door did not open then suddenly it did and her master was brandishing one of his masonry hammers screaming at her, "Away demon!"
The hammer struck her snout and she gweeed in pain flapping away from him her talons scrabbling in the yard in front of his home.  When he showed no sign of stopping attempting to hit her the amaro took to the air.
She hovered for a moment looking at him chocolate eyes filled with hurt and confusion, "What is wrong master?  What have I done?  I...just wanted to greet you as you always have me...."
The architech shook his head violently, "Away demon, I don't know what you did with my amaro but I'll not deal with your foul kind.  Go away or I shall summon the knights to slay you!"
"Master, I am your amaro.  Its me Windsong!" the amaro wailed, "I who have carried you the length and breath of Voeburt.  Born you supplies, kept you warm on the wintery nights we were away from home."
"Silence," he snarled throwing the hammer at her she had to swiftly shift in the air to avoid it from striking her.  As it fell to the earth he grabbed it again and tried to throw it at her again.
The amaro gweed in sorrow and finally relented flying away from her master her heart broken.
Why, why had he tried to hurt her?  She who had faithfully served him for all these years.  What was so wrong with talking to him.  She had thought he'd be overjoyed that his conversations could now be shared instead of him talking and her occasionally making a noise in response.
She then took to traveling on her own staying for the most part out of the sight of men.  Most of the time she ate what she could find in the wild.  Berries, grasses, flowers.  Sometimes they were ok to eat sometimes she got sick from it.  Other times when she could she filched fodder from the various amaro stables scattered through out the kingdom.
In the twilight of Voebert’s existence she had helped some of the people escape the onslaught of the Sin Eaters mostly by ferrying them away from danger.  That was the last time she helped any of mankind.  The amaro had made sure to stay silent, so as not to have another child of man try to hurt her out of fear.
That had been over one hundred years ago but it still stung as if it was yesterday.  Windsong closed her eyes and gweed in sorrow.
"Are you alright?" a gentle voice asked
The amaro opened her eyes to see their mortal visitor looking at her concern filling those leaf colored eyes.
Windsong blinked at her for a moment before shyly stating, "Aye, I was....remembering something from long ago."
The Viis simply nodded in understanding then quietly replied, "I see, well would you like a comforting pat?  A friend of mine  suggested that I pet some of you all and get to know you.  He said it would give me a better understanding as to Seto's response to my request."
The amaro's eyes widened in surprise and she almost refused but she found she couldn't there was something about this mortal that made her want to trust again.
She bobbed her head and gave an affirming Krrr.
The Viis then reached out and softly stroked her chest feathers.  Causing the amaro to close her eyes in contentment and purr.  When she opened them she saw a kind smile on the woman's lips.
As she removed her hand the Viis then said, "While memories can be painful, sometimes they are all we have.  Try not to let it upset you and remember, there’s always a brighter morrow."
The amaro bobbed in understanding stating, "Thank you....?"
The Viis gave a small bow and said, "Aina Rosewood at your service."
"A pleasure I was named Windsong long ago." the amaro replied.
"Well Windsong, if you have need of anything let me know, I am more than willing to help people no matter who they are."
The amaro bobbed stating, "I will let you know.  For now nothing comes to mind."
"Very well," Aina stated giving her a courteous bow before moving along to speak to another of her kin.
Windsong sat there the lingering warmth of the woman's had still able to be felt on her chest.  The woman had awoken something in the amaro that she had never thought she'd feel again.  The desire to be with a mortal and aid them in their travels.
She shook herself then stood making her way over to Seto. She wanted to know what the woman requested and what he had said.  The amaro also found herself deciding to ask him if he would mind her leaving the flock to travel with the Viis.
