wait could I get an explanation as to why inklings are technically immortal
In-game and thus in-universe the way being Splatted works is that when an inkfish is submerged in water, their body essentially explodes and dissolves. What you see in the game with their body blowing up and being reduced to nothing and their spirit flying out is very much something that's the intended Actually Happening sort of thing. Respawn pads just pick up their spirit and make them a new body out of ink. So essentially inklings can die and have their body entirely dissolved or reduced to atoms but as long as there's like, warm ink around, their soul can dip into there and get back up like nothing happened.
This is a mechanic we see in turf wars, in salmon run we can see just HOW POWERFUL it is given they literally don't even have fancy technology to do the revival, and in Octo Expansion we have dev confirmation that Agent 8 LITERALLY DIES if you get splatted in the escape phase because there's no respawn pad around. Which means that yes, they LITERALLY DIE when they're splatted and this is SO LITTLE OF A DEAL that they have a sport built around this. TL;DR inklings are immortal on account of being completely unbothered by freak accidents, like getting evaporated or eaten whole by a predator, or torn into pieces and then being splatted, or falling into the water and diluting into particles, and they are also capable of just remaking their body infinitely out of body fluid.
