2024 KESS3 ECU Programmer FAQ & Customer Feedback

KESS3 Frequently Asked Questions:

1. How can I interface and program the control units?

With KESS3 you can program the engine control units (ECU) or transmission control unit (TCU) in three different ways:

OBD – With the OBD mode, you can easily access all the ECU data through the diagnostic socket.

BENCH – With the Bench mode you can access the ECU data directly from the connector

BOOT – With Boot mode, with the engine control unit opened, you could connect directly to all the memories of ECU/TCU.

2. What is the difference between Master and Slave?

As a Master user, you can read the files in clear. This allows you to operate independently in order to remap and reprogram the ECU with modified files. As a slave user, only your master will be able to decrypt your files. (Recommended choice for taking the first steps in chiptuning, supported by your Master)

3. Can I update slave version to Master version?

Yes, you need pay the price difference to update it.

4. I have kess3 slave, if i buy kess 3 master from you, can you bind my slave one to the master? Yes, we can do this 5. Can i activate master license and slave license to the same device? No, you cannot.

6. Can I unbind license if i purchase kess3 from othe dealer, then purchase license from you? No possible to unbind device no matter where you buy the machine. You can only buy license and subscription from your own supplier

7. Can i use the tool if subscription expires? Yes, afte the subscription runs out, you still can use it and will have access to all the protocols you had until its expiration date,but if you want to use the latest update softwrae, you need pay new subscription. And after subscription expires, the VR files not possible. Moreover, won't have access to: - technical assistance - VR function - Cloning - All the online services such as ORI file download.

8. If my subscription expires on 1 Nov, 23, I don't renew it until 1 May 24, when does the new subscription expire?  From day it ran out.

9. If when my master kess3 subscription is due in Oct, 11th, 2023 and l decide not to carry on paying. Can i have all the protocol updates if I pay for the subscription 6 month later? Yes, you will have all protocols from expiry to renewal period.

10. How to check device serial number? SN is on the back of the kess3 unit, or check in AlienSuite software.

11. What types of vehicles are supported?

12. I own KESSv2 / K-TAG. How can I get KESS3?

13.I am a KESSv2 / K-TAG customer, but the subscription has expired. Can I get the new tool?

Yes, even for you, during the trade-in phase there is an enhancement of the instrument regardless of the validity of your instrument.

YES. All KESSV2 or K-TAG accessories are and will be compatible with KESS3.

15. I own KESSv2 / K-TAG. Is there an operating deadline?

The K-suite software and the all related services and infrastructures will continue to be updated and totally functional. After your subscription will be expired, it will no longer be possible to download new protocols

Since Oswald had regained control of his club, and the majority of Gotham’s underworld, you had both adjusted to the change well. He still felt like the same Oswald Cobblepot you had met months ago, seemed like the same determined, ambitious, sweet and thoughtful man you had fallen for, dead set on helping him achieve, or re-achieve, his goals.

Somewhat naively, you hadn’t really considered what it might be like being with him as ‘The Penguin’. Risky, difficult, but you felt safe, protected by him. But part of you was still afraid of something you couldn’t quite put your finger on until it was right there in front of you, reaming in your face.

Or rather, screaming down the phone when you entered the room, leaving you standing there, unsure if you would ever be able to convince your legs to move again. Tension palpable, at least to you.

Sat at his desk, his entire body seemed to change, his voice deeper and more serious, growling almost at whatever poor soul was on the receiving end of his tirade. Threats, quickly and easily falling off his tongue like second nature, the violent imagery conjured perfectly in your mind to the point where you worried that you might not be able to stop picturing it when you closed your eyes. As you approached him, slowly, unsure, he finished up the call, slamming the phone down into the receiver. You jumped lightly, and he was quick to put an arm around your hip.

His voice was light again, soft and gentle, the Oswald you knew and loved. But you still couldn’t shake the nerves.

You hadn’t said anything yet, and all you could offer was a weak smile, your hand on his shoulder, thumb rubbing into it in a gesture of care. He could sense there was something wrong, and his brows tensed, furrowed, frowning at your unwillingness to share. But he pieced it together, pulling you in closer with his arm around you, shifting you onto his leg, one hand supporting your back, the other placed around your knee, fingers pressed into it in a firm grip.

“I would never hurt you.”

At your lack of response, avoiding his gaze, he lifted his hand from your knee to your chin, holding the front with his thumb, resting it on his palm, as he turned you to look at him.

“You know that, right?”

The sincerity in his eyes was all you needed. He was the same Oswald he always had been, it just might take a bit of getting used to.

How about OBDSTAR DC706 ECU Tool? Compared with IO Terminal, any good?

DC706 has full clone function. It supports ECM, TCM and Body/other system clone via OBD or Bench. It can read ECU info, R/W Eeprom/Dflash/Pflash/MAP, reset ECU (Virgin), calibrate mileage, read IMMO pincode, and recover ECU... make ECU cloning easy.

It only costs a third of the Full version of I/O Terminal, therefore within everyone’s reach and without using a PC, with a Tablet and everything is done.

Besides, the updates are continuous.

The disadvantage is that it doesn’t do checksum.

Review 1:

I have the Obdstar DC706 and have used it a bit. I will say one let down was I was trying to harvest a virgin file from a 6L80 through OBD. It read the eeprom quickly but after 10mins and no movement on the flash, I gave up. I know many others have said IO terminal will through OBD and most have completed 6L80 on the bench. So far, that’s been my only issue. The monthly updates are great as they are adding many new modules all the time.

Review 2:

I have i/o terminal tool and dc706. dc706 is better overall. It is so easy to set up and go. The instructions are top notch, they use real pictures of the ecu and pin out diagrams are very clear, and then they even give you step by step instructions on how to do the job. They just came out with another huge update today, added many GM bcms and ford bcms. I have seen a post recently about someone cloning a ford bcm, said they couldn't do it by obd, but bench was fine. No tool is perfect, especially when it’s so new of a tool. They are quick to respond if you contact support. In many ways it's better than I/O terminal tool, you can virginize the gm bcm, mileage correction, pin codes all from the tool. It’s easily worth the $1400 price tag.

Io terminal vs 706 ....the cost is true, but Io will do more.

This Obdstar dc706 tool is a good companion to the IO Terminal. This tool includes cloning for many GM PCMs and TCMs. Ford DPS6 (Dual Clutch) TCM is covered. There is much more in there. I am testing a bit at a time but so far it is pretty good. I also got the TCM cable set and P003 bench adapter.

OBDSTAR DC706 VS Foxflash ECU Programmer Review:

I have both foxflash and dc706. dc706 is much easier to get going. The way they are updating the dc706 they will have more coverage in no time.

I just went through the coverage and this dc706 tool just keeps on getting better and better. MEDG17 / MED17 found in Ford Models. The F150 Ecoboost is an MEDG17. This PCM has been a boot mode only PCM, now offered here in bench mode. I am also seeing the GPEC2 and GPEC3 PCMs listed in boot mode. Lots of FIAT BCMs are listed. This tool is the deal of the century.

As time has gone on, the updates have sorted almost all issues. It has turned into a really good tool. Absolutely love it now though. Only thing really missing is checksum calculation. But saying that, it was never marketed as a programmer but a cloner so to speak. Don't know about VAG EDC17 immo calculation during writing with the OPT areas as it now has these in its list but I have other tools for that. It'll be interesting what’s coming in future updates. Would highly recommend it now.

Sometimes an update screws it up a bit (a week ago it was a nightmare - sorted now though) so best to wait a week or so and let others test. Still the odd ECU that still doesn't work after allegedly being fixed. It's definitely getting better. They are quick to sort the issues. Doesn't do checksums. I do like it though. For money, I don't think it's bad at all. There's an extra or two you might want to buy as well. All in all, I'm glad I got one.

It does read files ...and rewrite ...but not all ecus posted on the unit are fully functional...meaning u have to read .bin files use another system for example to clone or remove immo or remove dtc...and use dc706 to write modified file back...they are updating constantly adding new features or modules....it's not a silver bullet to do all units with every feature...no tool is that way...u need to find out exactly what cars and exactly what functions u need and buy specific tool..I have about 5 different tool still not able to do all cars or trucks ...one complain I have about dc706 is mostly covers Asia and Europe cars that are not sold in USA market so if u are Europe or Asia u will get more use out of it...but over all its a good one to have in ur arsenal ..as far as checksum goes it does automatically to my knowledge..if not true maybe someone can chime in.
