Thinking about Sir John & all the men listening to Young's terrified cries as he died, and then Sir John & all the men listening to Silna's father crying out in pain as Goodsir tried to save him, yes, but also
Young and Silna's father both dying as people try to intervene in some way to help.
Silna's father, a shaman, reaching out to Young, who is closest to death, easiest to make a bridge to, to try and understand the intrusion that's damaging the environment so that it can be corrected.
Goodsir, a surgeon, trying to reach into Silna's father to pull out the bullet, to extract the cause of the damage. But he can't. Every breath makes it worse.
And it's the same as the two ships. Lodged there. Can't be moved. Every breath makes it worse. Tuunbaq's attempts only make it worse. Just... Silna's father's body as a metaphor for the environment they're in, the bullet a foreign, violent, intrusive entity with no awareness of what it is or the damage it's done...
And both Young and Silna's father lying on that table, crying out as others try to help.
