Another reason people probably didnt like Symphonia their first time but later loved it is because of the themes and undertones. Here is another essay that's going to be a very quick Symphonia walkthrough as a young child playing.

Here's a warning: I mention some stuff that happens in Symphonia. It will be mostly vague but there will be mention of death. There also might be some spoilers in here but nothing too serious, just some of the beginning story more than likely.

Let me begin by saying the box art looks pretty cool for the Gamecube but the front and back does look like a very, very young child's RPG. It seems like an RPG that was creates for super young children that havent hit there teens or are in the very first years of being a teen.

I'm about to give a quick walkthrough as if I am a very young kid playing Symphonia for the first time. This is to show why a lot of people had this as their first game in the series but didnt like it. Why a lot of people weren't the biggest fans until their second playthrough or when they gave it another chance and realized it is absolutely stunning. A top 10 game of all time across every platform created.

First off, there was a lot of adult themes and tones in Symphonia. Obviously, I dont mean nudity or sexually explicit material. I'm talking about the Desian Camps. The idea that millions of people are being captured, put to work, then put to death or letting them die. These type of adult themes.

The first time we played, we were young. We didnt get choked up or super sentimental about what was going on in video games. We didn't care so much about the parallels between real life and our video games. Usually, we just wanted something fun to play. I mentioned it earlier but the start of Symphonia looks super childish and like it's going to be a lighthearted adventure. You have a cast of kids (2 very young adults that added comedy and badassness). A majority of the beginning fights are snakes, birds, bunnies, and bears. The battle system is fun but also easy enough to get the hang of. You can honestly button mash with the occasional arte and not worry about combos . You didnt have to worry about combos at all, really, and just use artes when you wanted. Some of the artes were pretty cool looking and strong too which added more of a "wow, the combat system is cool. There's attacks and a bunch of power attacks you can use. You can also move around and dont have to wait like a turn base game." It's also possible to just button mash or use all your MP on Artes and really kick their ass.

Combining all of those elements together makes it seem more kid friendly than it really is. Playing through the start makes you feel like a 10 year old playing his first RPG with an age appropriate game since you control a bunch of kids. The fights are easy and usually bees or some weak animal. Nothing serious, really. The artes are cool and the more artes you learn, the cooler and more fun Lloyd gets. It's cool to play as Lloyd when you learn a new arte or two.

So far everything has been pretty lighthearted. This RPG is fun, the characters are pretty cool and can be funny. The dungeons aren't super confusing. It's just a fun game overall but nothing spectacular or crazy. Really the worst thing that has happened is "Desians bad. They destroy hometown over something stupid."

Marble's scene is the only real adult sad part in the game so far. They kill Marble in a way that you kind of don't get crushed by emotions. They let you down pretty easy and you get Marble's ring for Genis so now she is always with you. Her death isn't too bad because she was old and it was just one old woman in the game. It's sad but not devastating. Also the Ranch. They use them as slaves. But tbh it doesn't really hit you that they resemble real world stuff and you dont see the parallels like you should. You just kind of write it off as shitty and Desians are evil and the bad guys. Surely you save everyone from the ranches and that's the point of the game. Kill Desians and save everyone.

You get to the dessert oasis where Colette crashed through the wall. Cute and funny. Oh, Lloyd and Genis get captured by bad Desians but the wanted posters were bad so it made it funny. Eventually, You escaped the bad, bad Desians and are back with your friends, yay!!! You go to the fire shrine, finally see more menacing enemies but they still arent that bad, and start your first puzzle dungeon! It's short but a lot of fun with a boss fight. It was a little tough but fun!! You beat the shrine, yay!!!

The serious Angel (Remiel) comes down again and talks to Colette and the gang. He gives her wings! She is becoming an angel. At this point you are thinking, "How cool. Colette is becoming an angel!!! She has wings now and can probably fly wherever she wanted to go! This game is really fun. It's not bad at all. The weapons and equipment aren't difficult and it's fun buying or finding stuff better than what you have and equipping the new stuff. The skits can be funny too and I get to know the characters better with the skits. This game is really cool, actually." It's time to speed this post up, though. I'll be going faster and doing more short versions/storytelling.

We sail across seas and bow we are at Palmacosta!!! Here's where things get a little weird and stuff too. So Palmacosta is cool. We look through town, only to find imposters. That's right. These fools are pretending to be me and my gang. Im the one with a cool group and shit. People wanna be me so bad!!! Lol.

By the way. General Dorr is also the Mayor of Palmacosta.

Imposters are rude and we meet mayor who seems cool till he tells us he thought the imposters were us and gave them a book we need. So....little me is like

"YOU DID WHAT!?" .... so we leave. Lol

We go to mountain gate, cant pass yet, learn Palmacosta is under attack by ... you guessed it... Desians. ,

*little me has eyes stretch wide open* But I was just there!!!! Sucks, I know.

So we head back and make it to Palmacosta. Remember the girl we saved from extreme questioning and customers that were badgering the girl since she was the store clerk/owner. Of course not. I never mentioned it. I saved her back then at the start of Palmacosta. Naturally they chose Chocolate, in some weird, sick revenge way for me making them look weak when they verbally attacked her. So Chocolate is about to hang and be killed. Some stuff happens and Lloyd ends up using his sword to save Chocolate. Boom. He is a hero. He saved someone from hanging....

Wait.... hanging? In kids game? Damn that's a little intense for a kids game but I guess you do save her. Carry on.....

So let's speak to the Mayor. He was conveniently gone while that was happening but meh. Coincidence right? Yeah. Yeah.

Talking to the General/Mayor we decide to go rescue everyone who has been kidnapped from Palmacosta. By the way there's a ranch for most cities that Desian's manage. So there is a Palmacosta Ranch and a bunch of people from Palmacosta are now held prisoners in the Ranch. Boo! But I digress.

Off to Palmacosta ranch!!! We finally reach it and... oh look... General Dorr"s personal Aide/Assistant. What's this? He is a traitor!? You've got to be kidding me! I trusted that dude!!! Maybe that will teach little me to be careful about who I hang out with. A pretty good life lesson for little me and nothing too serious. I'll handle that later though, and rescue the prisoners in the Palmacosta Ranch.

We save Chocolate but she would almost rather die than be saved by you. So you save her but not without a fight and learning some shocking stuff that little me is like "WHAAAA!!!???!??? NO WAY NO WAY NO WAY!!!!!!!! she still lives cause of you and you fight the leader of the Ranch and win that battle!!!

So yay!!! You won the battle and beat Palmacosta Ranch! Good job little you! You did awesome!!! The game has been really great, with a pretty light tone for the most part. Everything is bright, the enemies arent that bad at all, nothing truly fucked up has ha---"we're going to blow up the Ranch with people still in it" -Raine.

That's right.... "YOU'RE GONNA WHAT!?!?"

So yeah, we blow up Palmacosta Ranch. Desians were probably still inside along with a janitor named Chet that everyone forgot about lol. So bye bye Ranch!!!

Back to Palmacosta to confront the traitor General Dorr!! Here we are! General Dorr and his daughter are standing suspiciously in the basement of the government building in Palmacosta. I'm sure he knows that he has been found out. I know he tried to sabotage the Chosen's journey. He has no exc--- OH NO! They got his wife with the Demon Seed, too!! Now she is a monster! No wonder he is a traitor. He is trying to get a potion which is the cure to save his wife. I kind of get it but that's pretty messed up. He is basically being held hostage. This game just got a little darker.... but it could be worse, I suppo----WHAT!? HIS DAUGHTER IS A DEMON! DID SHE JUST SAY SHE KILLED HIS DAUGHTER A LONG TIM AGO AND HE WAS TOO STUPID TO NOTICE!?"

She really just called him stupid and is acting like he is the biggest idiot for not knowing she killed his daughter!!! This whole time she has pretended to be his daughter. That means she probably went to her school, played with her friends, talked to her dad and played with him. She probably told him she loved him which is so messed up. She also knew there was no potion but continued to watch him and be ready to kill him if he tried to snitch about his wife. This got dark really fucking fast wtf!!! She is a complete demon stranger in a girls body pretending she loves her daddy, plays with friends, and does child things but is a demon the whole time. "I love you daddy says the demon pretending to be your daughter. That's really sick and twisted. Sad thing is little me is like "well that's weird. How did no one notice at all she was acting odd?

Maybe she didn't have any friends and her dad is to distracted about the medicine for his wife, he doesn't notice.

That's absolutely crazy and completely dark. Woah. This game is way way darker than it lead me to believe when I was young. That was pretty much my first reaction/playthrough when I was little. Symphonia is dark as fuck.

I played a little bit further to the next ranch my first playthrough but quit when I found out they were killing people like it was nothing. I was really little then, too, btw. I quit because it got really dark and kind of weird and complicated to fully grasp everything going on and the parallels to the real world. I always played RPGs relating it to real life and such. I have done that since my first RPG so with Symphonia I had to quit. It was too dark and weird when I first played it.

Once I came back and beat Symphonia I thought it was Brilliant. It was absolutely amazing and worth so much more praise. I loved it and still do. Even the dark side of things.

Turns out I am not the only one who did this. Play through, reach a dark part or part where you realize how dark it is, and then quit. I'm glad I picked it back up, though. It's almost a perfect game!!!

So yeah... here's a playthrough of little me and Symphonia. I was too little to be playing games with dark themes even if they were short or small. I say this because I was stupid small and really let my imagination run wild when I played games and read. I often make things 20 times worse so I really shouldn't have played Symphonia till later.

Anyways it's amazing. Nearly perfect.

Self-indulgent writing. This is a narrative description of my thought process while writing a scene and getting stuck on one detail that is on great influence on the world-building. When I am in the zone, I think fast. So to make sense of in a fun narrative format, I broke the process up into different voices with a different name-titles. This cost me an hour to write down in full length, so future-me to can easily read it back and smile.

Writer me: How EXPENSIVE is Orochimaru’s coat in this university professor AU roleplay? I’ll say €400. Student me: That’s too much. No one walks around in a €400 coat. What if a bird poos on you, or it gets scratched! Diva me: ...then you’ll be glad you’re wearing a coat. Please, darling. Make it haute couture. Roleplayer me: Excuse me, can I say something? 

Writer me: Girls! Attention! I need an answer. How much? €1400 then? I don’t know these prices. Cosplayer me: Neither do I.    ....I just can guess better than most people how it’s made. I could probably made a C-class rip-off lookalike. 

Writer me: YOU’RE A COSPLAYER. Come help me! How’s €2400 for a coat? Is that reasonable? Diva me: Haute Coutre means, high sewing. Literally the best designers, seamstesses and materials in the play, as well as enough time. Daywear like jackets can start at $10 thousand dollar. But gowns with embroidery and a lot of material can go up to 800-thousand hours. Why do I know this shit. Student me: Wtf how do those people make money. Roleplayer me:  ....Hey..... Diva me: They don’t. It’s one big promotional event to sell perfume and lipstick. Actresses are asked to wear a dress to a red carpet event, for the promotion of a brand, that’s all.  Writer me:  Cool stuff, not interested. How much does Orochimaru’s coat cost? Student me: How much can a professor pay? lmao. Writer me: He also dabbles in human experimentation, shush. I’ve decided he’s got money but I don’t know yet if it’s from legal corporate or black market transactions. Student me: Fair. Writer me: Only governments and state-backed individuals can acquire so much capital and expertise to create reliable environments for experimentation. Diva me: I wonder how much a coat would cost that has all te specks. 1) Comfort 2) stylish 3) laboratory-proof and 4)bulletproof 5)with ingrained pockets for wires and mechanics. Cosplayer me: I am glad you asked! WELL. If we go for a long-term sturdy material because let’s be honest, Orochimaru hardly changes his wardrobe. We would use long strips of supple high-quality leather. 4 meters, waterproof. It would then have an inside of labcoat-fabric. The choice for this lining is to protect the skin, even if spilled acid burns through the outer layer. There ought to be little seams as possible so no acid can come through. Tightly sewn. Writer me: Bulletproof? Student me: That’s nonsense. Then when he visits people the coat rack will topple over and create an awkward social situation. Writer me: Would be nice for surviving drive-by shootings though. Student me: Sometimes I can’t tell if you’re a writer, or a hypothetical murderer who puts it in narrative form. Writer me: Stop teasing. Cosplayer, continue! Cosplayer me: What will block bullets? A flack jacket, thin plates of metal, or chainmail? I don’t know this but I’ll go with thin metal plates so it’s still nice to move in. At most, the plates will change the trajectory of the bullet. I know nothing about guns don’t trust me. Cosplay me: For sewing, I am tempted to adhere the metal to the leather outside of the coat, because leather is sturdy. But that won’t be pretty because the outside of the coat will show bulky outlines. So I’m going for a third layer inside the coat, that will hold the metal plates in place, on the big parts of the body. Chest, area and especially the high collar. 

Roleplayer me: Hey... I want to say something?

Cosplayer me: Each plate would need its own pocket or hook. There ought to be come overlapping. Strips of 10 cm? I should consider the bending of the coat, and seating. Comfort is key. OH HEY actual bulletproof suits exist for people in the diamond industry who go to countries with unrest. That thing has eight layers of white white material between the outer layer and the inner lining. (No price on the website.) OK let’s go with that. Plus the 100 hours minimum that I would put into measuring and cutting and sewing. Thus my verdict is... Cosplayer me: ...-I have no idea how much it costs. 

Diva me: Come on. Boooo.  Writer me: SHUSH EVERYONE. I’m trying to say something!

Diva me: Did you just raise your voice at me?   Roleplayer me: Shush. I am talking! How about for ONCE he ISN’T a creep, but a normal professor who looks pretty and has an odd interest in topic X because he is worried about the world?

Roleplayer me: Can we go for ‘undecided’? Let’s see what the RP brings? Writer me: Okay, yes, sounds good. I will just write ‘expensive coat.’ All other versions of me:  Uuuugh. Writer me: I want him to be researching it because he has a bionic hand covered by synthetic human tissue, though. Roleplayer me: ....a NORMAL professor. 

Writer me: But I- Roleplayer me: Look at him! Look! Sasuke has this great odd effect on him that he can’t explain yet. That should be his greatest issue. And modelling. And books. Get your own AU. Gee.

Writer me: A new AU. One where Orochimaru made/makes himself immortal by using AI robotic technology alongside with still having human tissue. Yes, yes. So in a later stadium he can upload his mind to computers. (I should watch FF7:DoC) He should be capable of taking over any human as vessel. 

Student me: I hate it when she does the villain laugh. Diva me: It gives me the chills. Cosplayer me: I don’t know... I kinda like it.

But I think until the day comes where I’ve told you this I don’t think it will ever really truly be laid to rest in my heart. By praying for you while you were prepping for NCLEX, by taking you out for some comfort food to make test day just a bit more bearable, and praying you’d receive your pass results early just so you could catch a break and have the peace of heart to heal by giving as much of yourself while you were in Peru. By praying that by being in Peru you’d have the quality time and charity to heal. By choosing to work with you at the diabetes camp despite knowing how vulnerable it’d make me. And by celebrating and having a great time with you celebrating your nurse licensure in NYC.  But once again I’d be remiss to say my heart doesn’t want more. And this altruistic love wasn’t always so. At first, yes I was a selfish bastard. I wanted you for myself. I was immature and governed by my emotions back in high school. and even more so the night of your prom. All I could think in that moment was “You’re gonna have to take that chance.” I was so wrong. As beautiful as you were that night, that didn't make it right. And what followed that November hurt like no other. Brookdale Park when you said “you owe me nothing”, you saw right through me and from then on I saw how low you saw me. Even though I was the one letting you down. “Never again” I told myself. I avoided you for that year. Barely contacted you, spoke to you, thank God “Find my friends” and snapchat locations had not been created yet because everyone might have seen my fraud ass at home saying I was out while everyone else was movie-nighting at your house. It wasn't really until two years later in 2015 that I could bring myself to even share the same airspace as you. Because for those two years I forced myself to hate you in a desperate attempt to dissolve how I felt. But 2015 quickly reminded me just how much I really love the person you are. The warmth you carry with you. The energy you take on to make the most of each moment. How you try and see the good in everyone. I found myself jealous even. But by then that didn’t even matter. I was just comforted by how organic your love for life and those around you was, despite everything you were going through with your Dad that same year. Since then I chose to love you. Not because it’d be a choice to, despite the difficulty, but because I was simply compelled to. To love you to heaven if you will. Instead of turning away and leaving it behind me. I’ve moved on with it. Matured by it. And have been made better from it.  I know it still probably doesn’t make sense. But this is why it’s so hard to tell you. I suppose I should answer the question, “Why you?” I once wrote a poem about a “girl that changed my life” long ago and how in it I describe you as someone I knew would mean something great to me. Funny how that still holds true to this day. The reason I love you is something that for seven years I’ve had to validate, re-validate, and then discover why and continue to discover why. For the longest time, the cliché, “you just know” was the only thing that fit. And I feel it takes a lifetime to really complete such reasoning. But by now I’ve grasped some of the deeper reasons. When I first really met you at __________ at age 15, I had this feeling you were gonna be important to me. I didn’t know why as I didn’t even know your last name at the time. And these past two years, I’ve prayed and reflected why God would nurture such a strong love for someone in me when that someone could never love me the way I love her? What a question. It’s because He wanted to teach me how to love. And what love is. And what it takes. And most importantly my true capacity to love. The last of these is what’s made you the gamechanger. I can’t tell you how much I wanted to yell at that diner restaurant in Montclair when you said to me ____ made you feel a way you never knew you could. If only you knew how much that rattled me. But it’s true. Similarly, you’ve set a bar in my life. A benchmark if you will. You criticized me at Brookdale Park that day for putting you on some pedestal. I don’t think you realized then how much of a confirmation of a confession of love that was. I didn’t even realize it myself at the time and blatantly denied it. But you’re damn right I put those I love on a pedestal. But only for you it was that pedestal. The one reserved in my heart. But you were right, I did treat you special and I realize now that if I could love you that hard, to this extent, even after all these years later, I have the capability to love others just as much. You revealed that to me. And from then on, in loving others I see how much I love you and how much more love I have to give or have in me to give.  Such a person like you will stay with me. 

Lastly, _________, I want you to know, that yes, I owe you nothing and conversely you will never owe me anything. I only want you, as real and honest, and sincere as you are. Your genuine self. Here’s something I find more fun than squeezing clots of blood out of my vagina for five days a month: Being taxed for it. Oh wait, did I say fun? I meant total fucking bullshit. 

Governments around the world tax much-needed menstrual products like pads and tampons, claiming that these products are not necessities. Which they’re not, if you want me bleeding on your garden furniture. However, for those of us who understand it is everyone’s right to both not bleed on your subway seat and make rent (I know, the luxury), menstrual products are a necessity and taxing them is clearly sexist.

The tampon tax issue has gained fantastic global momentum in the past few years, in countries like the United States, Canada, India, Australia, and beyond.

Most recently the issue crossed my newsfeed following the Indian government’s 2017 tax circular, in which sanitary napkins were classified as a luxury good and taxed at 12% —and sindoor, the red pigment many women wear to indicate that they’re married, wasn’t taxed at all. As the folks at Feminism in India pointed out, the message was loud and clear: For the government, a woman’s marital status is more important than her right to access basic healthcare.

And India isn’t the only country where these kinds of double standards are alive and thriving: As many American feminists have pointed out, we live in a country where most states tax menstrual products, but don’t tax Viagra and even some kinds of shampoo.

New York City, one-upping New York State in all things, has also voted to provide free menstrual supplies in public schools, shelters, and prisons. Louisiana is on the way.

India

In response to the recent announcement of the 12% sales tax on menstrual products, a social media campaign, “Lahu ka Lagaan,” or “Tax on Blood,” stormed Twitter. Tweeters asked the question: In a country where the majority of menstruating people can’t access basic sanitary products, shouldn’t the government get its priorities straight?

Indeed, taxation on menstrual products is India is a small part of a broader structural and material problem: Menstrual products aren’t accessible to women in the first place. According to Feminism in India, there are roughly 335 million people who menstruate in India. Of them, an estimated 70% can’t afford, or don’t have access to, sanitary napkins. And what access they do have is eroded by inadequate waste disposal methods and menstrual stigma. Feminism in India’s recent campaign, “The Pad Effect,” coincided with global Menstrual Hygiene Day to increase access to sustainable menstruation products.

The UK

In the UK, the tampon tax has made its way into national elections. Thanks to the work of fabulous feminists, in 2016 Britain had gotten the EU’s permission to eliminate its tampon tax. But then—plot twist—a little thing called Brexit happened, and hopes for an immediate end to the tampon tax (also hopes for a bright and inclusive future), were stalled. In a similarly disturbing twist, while the Conservative party had promised that proceeds from the tampon tax would be donated to women’s rights organizations, they actually ended up helping to fund an anti-abortion group. Gross.

But as the reality of “period poverty”—including girls unable to attend school during menstruation for lack of sanitary products—galvanizes action, the BBC reports that the tampon tax has reemerged as a national issue. The Green Party and the Liberal Democrats have already come out in support of removing the tampon tax and providing sanitary products free of cost to public school students and low-income menstruators.

On the other end of the spectrum, the UKIP, which had pledged to remove the tampon tax by (this is super predictable) seceding from the European Union, has included in this year’s election manifesto, and I quote, “We will remove VAT from hot takeaway food such as fish and chips, and from women’s sanitary products.” Yup, they mentioned fish and chips right next to the tampon tax—isn’t nationalism charming?

Beyond the Tampon Tax

But wait—like that little extra bonus on day five when I basically always assume my period is over and wear white lace panties without a panty liner, there’s more.

Becomes when it comes to the right to a safe and stigma-free period, the tampon tax isn’t the only thing on the feminist agenda. Movements for “menstrual equity” include worldwide campaigns to destroy menstruation stigma, make menstrual care gender neutral, and promote access to sustainable menstrual products.

My son just got Walmarts health insurance policy after I told him to get some insurance. He says he signed up, but their health insurance is a bad one. I just wanted him to be insured because a trip to the ER for any kind of accident or illness could financially ruin him. Wages at Walmart aren't exactly great. Trying to find health insurance for myself and my daughter is impossible. We arrived into the country in December 2011. I am now a permanent resident, my daughter (2) is a a US Citizen. i got in a car accident with no insurance. (I ALREADY KNOW. PLEASE DONT TELL ME IT WAS IRRESPONSIBLE/DUMB) and i hit two cars. total damages for btoh cars comes to about 6 grand. im 19 and working part time, making probably 400-500 bucks a month. one insurance company wants like 500 down and 200 dollar pamynets a month. i dont know about the other company. one of my friends mothers just says to not do anything. to just call them and say pretty much that im young, and dont have any possible way to pay this so there isnt anyway i can make payments. and she said that they wont really do anythign about it, because if they tried suing me, it would just cost even more money for them and stuff like that. what would happen if i just dont really pay it? any alternatives at all? because like i said, i only called one company. if the other company is anything like this one, thats 1000-1500 dollars down payment, and 300-600 bucks a month to pay these guys off!!!""

Help understanding auto insurance settlement and if I need to seek legal help?

My 17 year old son was driving his 2003 Ford Explorer, when he was hit by another vehicle. My son was approaching a stop light and traveling between 3-5 mph....The vehicle that struck him was a company work vehicle. The work truck was pulling out of a parking lot when he hit my son. His estimated speed was also 3-5 mph. There were no injuries at all, and there was no medical treatment sought. This all happened on April 10th 2011. It was found that driver of the work truck was at fault for inattention. Honestly, this guy was super nice and walked my son through the process of calling police etc til I could get there....Now dealing with the Companies insurance carrier has been a headache!!!! here is the basic timeline....Explorer still drivable....Had to wait 10 days for police report....contacted Company that owned work truck, and they forwarded me to their insurance co....Was advised to seek several estimates, and fax them over....Faxed over estimates to adjuster. All estimates exceeded 5k....Stated she would have to contact an adjuster from local area to work this. Local adjuster came out. Estimated damages to be 3300.00. Insurance Company sent me check for 3300.00 and advised me when vehicle repaired, auto shop would need to work with adjuster on any additional repairs and costs. Explorer was in shop 30 days before finally being totaled. Local adjuster was horrible to work with, did not communicate with body shop, etc. I finally contacted the insurance company, and told them I refused to deal wither contracted adjuster etc. Now that the vehicle has been totaled, they don't want to pay what I think is fair. The insurance company wants to settle for $6928 plus $367 for taxes. Clean retail for the Explorer is $8100. This is for my area. I have been car shopping for 2 days straight. can't find anything comparable with the money they gave me etc. I have taken off work to deal with this etc, been going on for 2 months plus, and Iam worn out with it all...All I want is for my kid to be back in a safe reliable vehicle. The insurance company did provide a rental car. I had to drive it, my son had to take my car, my other son had bought our car from us, but can't get it yet, because the other needs it for work school etc....I am so frustrated with the ins ompany""
