This voting period really just feels like im watching a bunch of people force a gay man back in the closet

I know thats not people's intentions but literally how else is he going to take this guilty vote. "I just don't want him to think his lying was okay" he doesn't! And he's not going to think that! He's actively trying to stop lying! All guiltying him will do is tell him he should have kept lying and continuing his relationship!!

"I just want him to have some kind of consequence for what he's done" Was Hinako literally dying not enough??? Sure, he didn't love her, but he still LIKED her. They were friends, they lived together, he married her because he WANTED to love her! He is literally drowning in guilt because of her death, I think he's had enough consequences by now. He might not be wearing his ring anymore, but he still carries it with him, he is very clearly still grieving her death.

"Innocent votes have no effect on him" Yes they will!! It didn't do anything last time because we forgave him for the wrong reasons and because he absolutely hates himself. Assuming we're right about him being gay, which I'm pretty confident we are, having his 'true' self validated rather than his fake one will 100% have a bigger effect on him this time. Guiltying him will only make his self-hate worse and show him that only his false self is forgivable, so he should keep lying to be accepted.

I know most people's intentions are not to make him keep lying, but regardless of whatever intention you have, it doesn't matter how you want him to take it, you can not ignore how he will actually take it.

Look you have set up such a good potential family angst, more specifically Leo angst. I know you said that Leo talks sbout his emotions to Aoi but i'm guessing he didn't tell him about his insecurities or self worth issues (despite Aoi clearly already knowing without being told).

So scenerio:

being the black sheep of his family, literally No one appreciating his jokes/attempts at trying to light up the mood (and by extent belittling his coping mechanism), his brothers from Leo's pov not trusting him, an basing his self worth from his usefullness.

So naturally he would go to Aoi for comfort right? But then here comes another whole can of worms, Aoi is pushing him away [to be with his family] and Leo doesn't know why, he doesn't understand what he did wrong, from what Leo sees Aoi is just trying to shove Leo away [even when thats not the case at all], and poor Leo having insecurity issues, would logically think he did something wrong.

So now Leo is in a constant thought process of being a problem/nuissance to his family or anyone around him really, his family is annoyed by him and Aoi seems to be trying to push him away from Aoi, probably tired with Leo as well [hes really not] and Leo here, this poor bois mental health, is trying to 'fix' this, hes trying to be useful but is constantly failing so more slf worth and insecurity issues Yay :D.

Sorry this became so long, i always loved Leo's character analysis and after rewatching this show alot you kinda start to see some really sad sh*t for this boi also with the fact he is a red eared slider, with that species having this really interesting 'fenomenon' where it can get jealous and basically get so depressed that it stops caring for itself and tries to seek affection some cases it got so sad they slowly die after just a few days of being depressed/jealous because they stopped eating and just hid in it shell. The fact this species have basically insecurities and Leo is this exact species makes it so much more sense why he has alot of insecurities.

Leo is a very interesting character to examine. Both of them, 2012 and 2018, are different but when you look at their faces you know what they're feeling. Like they're such an open book that i dont know how their brothers miss things about them.

These two dorks need one another for sure, but Aoi knows that Leo needs his family more. To leo's perspective he's being pushed around, but to Aoi's perspective, he feels guilty because it's like he's stealing Leo away.

And that hurts.
