50 Best Ways To Make Money Online
Tumblr media
Making extra money doesn’t have to be hard. You don't always have to spend money to make money. There are lots of money-making opportunities out there.
One of the best things you can do to make money fast is to invest in your networking at work, spend time learning as much as possible, and get a raise or promotion. This alone could help you to make an extra $100 a day in no time. and get a raise or promotion. This alone could help you to make an extra $100 a day in no time. I am not going to lie: the reality is that you will have to put in some work to earn cash. But there are some clever real ways to make money out there if you are up for the challenge! This is what making more money can do for you:
Help you to save money and pay off your debt.
Pay your bills at the end of the month.
Help you stop living paycheck to paycheck.
Allow you to reach financial freedom.
It can even help you to leave a job you hate.
Plus, you could retire sooner if you want to. But remember: If you want to reach your goal of making $100 or more a day online (or offline), simply combine a number of these money-making ideas.
Whether you’re between jobs, a stay-at-home parent or just want to make some extra money without leaving the house, these work-from-home jobs and tasks can boost your income, helping you make ends meet, pay down debt or reach savings goals. Legitimate work-from-home jobs do exist but beware of scams that require you to pay upfront for the chance to earn extra money. Instead, check out these ways you can easily make extra money from home.
Let’s dive into it: here are the best ways to make money in 2021. No matter what your skills are, you can find something that’s right up your alley.
1. Sell Stock Photographs If you have a knack for capturing the perfect shot, you could turn those pictures into extra money. Sites like Shutterstock, Fotolia and Adobe Stock enable users to upload images and get paid when people purchase them. You’ll receive a fraction of the sales price — and a good picture can earn you thousands of dollars if it’s downloaded a lot. You must have the exclusive rights to the photos, and you must include signed releases for any recognizable people or private property in the images. 2. Use the Right Account for Your Money You shouldn’t settle for any old checking account when you’re looking for somewhere to keep your money. Instead, you should find one that pays you back. PenFed’s Access America Checking account does just that thanks to its annual percentage yield of 0.20% or 0.40%1 — depending on the daily balance — with a monthly direct deposit of $500 or more. By using an account that pays a higher APY, your money will grow more quickly while it sits until you need it. And if you’re able to avoid monthly fees, there’s no reason not to take advantage of a perk like this. 1APY (annual percentage yield) is accurate as of Sept. 18, 2020, and is subject to change at any time. Federally insured by NCUA. 3. Pet Sit If you love animals, getting paid to watch other people’s pets is a dream job. Sites like Rover connect pet sitters with pet owners. You’ll need to set up a profile explaining why you’d be a great pet sitter, but once you’re approved, you can set your own rates and hours. You could earn up to $1,000 per month, according to Rover. 4. Transcribe Audio Clips If you can type quickly and accurately, you can earn money by transcribing audio clips in your free time and turn it into a sweet side hustle. Companies like TranscribeMe! pay about $20 per hour, and top earners can earn $2,200 a month from these work-from-home jobs. If you have a specialized background like medical or legal training, you can earn higher rates. 5. Sell Unused Stuff If you’re looking for quick cash, consider selling items around your house, including your CDs, DVDs, games or books on the site Decluttr. Just enter the barcode, and Decluttr will tell you how much it’ll pay you for it. 6. Take Paid Surveys Online Various online websites will pay you for sharing your opinions on a range of topics. For example, e-Rewards is open to anyone older than 13. You’ll earn e-Rewards currency for each survey you complete, which you can redeem for gift cards. Other options include GlobalTestMarket and Harris Poll Online. The amount you make depends on how many paid surveys you’re eligible for and how quickly you complete them. 7. Become a Remote Sales Agent If you have a smooth voice and like talking to customers, sign up as a sales agent. You’ll take calls like you would in a physical call center, but some sales agent positions are remote jobs. For example, you can sign up with the company LiveOps to take calls for 30-minute blocks. First, you must apply, be accepted and complete a company training course, which takes about two weeks. Depending on the job, you could be paid an average of 25 cents per minute and/or commission and receive incentives for selling certain products. 8. Make an Online Business Out of Creating Online Courses If you have specialized knowledge, use it to create an online course. If you partner with a site like Udemy, you can set your price — between $20 and $200 per course — and keep a portion of the earnings based on whether you drive the traffic to the site or Udemy’s advertising attracts the students. 9. Surf the Internet There are dozens of ways to win money online. For example, companies want to know what you’re doing online, so they pay data aggregators like Nielsen to collect that information. To do this, Nielsen incentivizes people to share details about their computer and mobile phone usage by installing an app. You can earn rewards for each mobile device, plus sweepstakes entries. Nielsen gives away $10,000 each month to its Computer and Mobile Panel participants. 10. Serve as
an E-Juror You can make extra cash by serving as a mock juror so attorneys can practice their arguments and judge the value of their cases. Sites like eJury recruit U.S. citizens over 18 who haven’t been convicted of a felony. You can’t be an attorney, paralegal or legal assistant — or closely related to an attorney or employed by a law firm. Expect to make between $5 and $10 for each verdict. 11. Rent Out Your Car Renting out your car is one of the many ways you can make money off of tourists in your city. When you’re sitting at home, you’re not using your car, so consider making money from home by renting it to someone else. Companies like Getaround enable you to offer your car to someone who wants to rent it when you’re not using it. Getaround offers car owners top-rated insurance and 24/7 roadside assistance — so you’re fully protected. Active car owners can earn about $10,000 per year, according to Getaround. Smart Money Moves: 35 Useless Expenses You Need To Slash From Your Budget Now 12. Get Cash Back When You Shop Sign up with Ebates to get cash back when you shop online. Ebates has negotiated deals with more than 2,500 companies. Each time you click through the Ebates site to partner sites, the company pays a referral fee to Ebates, and Ebates shares it with you. You can also earn $25 for each friend you refer to Ebates. 13. Become an English Proficiency Test Grader To test for English proficiency, foreign students take tests that include writing paragraphs, which need to be scored. Companies like EditFast need people to grade the tests, and you can earn between $18 and $25 per hour. You must be a native or native-like English speaker, have a four-year college degree, pass proficiency exams and complete the training. Then, after making this extra money, you can grow it even more by putting it in a checking account like the one from PenFed. With an APY that can pay up to 10 times1 more than the average checking account, it can do more for your money. If you’re looking for an easy way to improve your financial situation, don’t overlook something as simple as your checking account. 1Sourced directly from: www.fdic.gov/regulations/resources/rates as of Sept. 18, 2020. 14. Host Dinner for Guests If you like to cook — and others like to eat your food — you could make money by hosting dinners at your home. Companies like Eatwith coordinate guests for your dinner parties. You must apply and host a demo event so the company can verify your culinary and hosting abilities. If you’re accepted, you’ll be on your way to making up to $1,100 per dinner. 15. Recycle for Cash Recycling helps the Earth by reducing pollution, but it can also put some cash in your pocket. Some states implement a bottle deposit you can get back when you turn in the used bottles at a collection center. For example, in California, you can earn 5 cents for most glass and aluminum cans and 10 cents for 24-ounce or larger bottles. 16. Watch Promotional Videos Some companies put together videos they want consumers to watch — and sites like InboxDollars find and reward consumers willing to do it. You’ll earn a little cash for each video you watch. If there aren’t any videos available to watch, InboxDollars also pays members to take surveys and online shop. 17. Turn Your Home Into a Bed and Breakfast If you don’t mind sharing your home with people, you can sign up to rent it to vacationers. On sites like Airbnb, you can list your space, set your rate and wait for guests to sign up. You have the flexibility to rent when you want and close up shop when you want your house to yourself. 18. Share Your Spending History Companies want to know what you’re spending money on. Snap pictures of your receipts, and upload them to the ReceiptPal app to earn entries into sweepstakes and points you can redeem for gift cards. 19. Test Websites If you like surfing the internet, consider becoming a website tester for UserTesting. Companies that are launching new sites will pay you to provide feedback about them and perform tasks to make sure they’re
functioning properly. You can expect to make $10 for each website you review. 20. Sell Coupons Online If you have any coupons around you know you won’t use, someone else might be willing to pay for them. For example, if someone is planning to buy a new laptop, a 10-percent-off coupon could save them a substantial amount, which might motivate them to pay you a portion of what they’d save to get the coupon. EBay does have some restrictions on coupon sales, however. You can never sell coupons for free items, and you can sell only 25 coupons — or up to $100 worth — each month. 21. Trade Cryptocurrencies Cryptocurrencies are currencies electronically created and controlled in a decentralized manner instead of by a government. Types of cryptocurrencies include Bitcoin and Litecoin. Trading cryptocurrencies can be lucrative — Bitcoin went up considerably between January 2017 and December 2017. Trading cryptocurrencies has its risks. If the price plummets — as Bitcoin’s price has in the past — you could lose your investment. 22. Create Slogans for Companies Companies love catchy slogans because they help sell products. If you have a knack for coming up with creative sayings, enter slogan contests. At Slogan Slingers, companies offer a reward of between $200 and $999 for slogans. If a company selects your slogan as the winner, you keep the prize, minus a small administration fee. 23. Lend Money to People If you have extra money, you can earn an average of 4% to 6% per year in profit by investing in peer-to-peer lending. Sites like LendingClub allow you to invest in small portions of loans — as little as $25 per loan — to other people. If the borrower defaults, however, you lose your investment. You must make a minimum opening deposit of $1,000 and meet the suitability requirements set by your state. For many states, that means you must have an annual income of at least $70,000 or a net worth of at least $250,000. 24. Tutor Students Online If you have a knack for explaining difficult subjects and helping students get better grades, consider tutoring online. You can find your own students and set your own rates to create an online business, or you can sign up to tutor with an existing company like Tutor.com. Tutor.com requires you to be at least a college sophomore, and you must be a subject matter expert in the areas you want to tutor. You must work at least five hours per week at Tutor.com. The site does not list the pay for tutors on its website, but with Chegg you can make $20 or more per hour of tutoring. 25. Host Direct-Sales Parties Direct sales companies like Mary Kay pay representatives to host parties and sell their products. You host events and invite friends, family and neighbors over to see and buy a company’s products — and you keep a portion of the sales. If you work for a single-level, direct-sales company, you can expect to earn an average commission of 20% to 25% of what you sell. 26. Rent Out Office Space in Your Home If you have home office space you don’t need to use, it could be worth money to someone who wants an office outside of their home but doesn’t want the associated cost or inflexibility of a traditional office space lease. You can set your own prices and decide when and for how long you want to rent your space. 27. Provide Tech Support Online If you get excited about fixing computer problems, sign up to get rewarded for being tech-savvy. Through companies like Upwork, you can complete lucrative freelance gigs online to earn cash and rewards by helping people fix their technology products. 28. Search the Web With Bing Switching your search engine is an easy way to make money from home. Microsoft, for example, will reward you for using Bing to search the internet. You earn points for activities like searches, which you can redeem for movies, games and gift cards. 29. Become a Virtual Fitness Instructor If you like helping people get in shape but don’t like traveling to the gym or other people’s homes, consider marketing yourself as a virtual fitness instructor. You might need to get
certifications to gain credibility with clients so you can oversee their workouts via webcam or other technology. Alternatively, you can have short, online meetings with clients and provide them with workouts to do on their own. Either way, you can work from home. 30. Sell Your Hair If your friends tell you they wish they had your hair, you might have a source of income growing right on your head. Sites like HairSellon provide an easy way to make money from home: You can list your hair for sale, and the site even has a calculator to help you set a reasonable price depending on its length, thickness and color. 31. Be a Virtual Assistant People will pay you to assist them with a range of tasks from canceling cable to scheduling appointments. “Virtual business assistance is an opportunity with so much variety and need that many people are able to find a place here,” said Angie Nelson of The Work At Home Wife. “In-demand skills can run the gamut from customer service and email management to optimizing eBay listings and setting up email funnels.” At Fancy Hands, the pay ranges from $3 to $7 per task — the faster you complete tasks, the higher your earning potential. 32. Sign Up for Credit Cards Credit card companies want to get their cards in your hands, and they often offer substantial bonuses to sign up. Many sign-up bonuses for credit cards are in excess of $1,000 — but you might have to spend a certain amount in a short period of time to qualify. Check that the card’s annual fee doesn’t offset the sign-up bonus. 33. Perform Tasks on Amazon’s Mechanical Turk Website Amazon has created a huge marketplace for tasks that require human intelligence for completion: Amazon Mechanical Turk. Businesses post tasks and how much the pay is for completing them. Tasks include identifying pictures or videos, transcribing audio recordings and conducting research. Depending on the task, you might have to prove your qualifications before you can claim it. The faster you complete tasks, the more you can make. 34. Adjust Your Home’s Temperature You can increase your bottom line by reducing your heating and cooling costs. Even if you’re always home, you can save up to 14% on your electricity bill if you set your thermostat 2 degrees higher and use a ceiling fan, according to Energy Star. You can also save money by dialing back the heat or air conditioning while you’re asleep. 35. Make and Sell Crafts If you’re a crafty person, selling some of your online handiwork might top your list of ways to make money at home. Sites like Etsy make it easy: You pay no monthly fee, just a 20-cent listing fee. Once your item sells, Etsy takes a 5% transaction fee, making selling you handmade creations and vintage goods in your Etsy shop, mostly painless. 36. Sell Video Footage to News Shows If you often find yourself in the right place at the right time to capture big events, let your video camera roll. News shows will pay you to use the footage for their broadcasts. You can use a site like ScoopBroker to sell your footage to a media outlet for exclusive or nonexclusive rights to it. 37. Write a Book Thanks to the advent of online publishing, you don’t need to have a connection with a big publishing house to deliver your story to the public. In fact, you can publish an e-book digitally through Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing. You can set your own price and earn up to 70% of it in royalty payments. 38. Pay Your Car Insurance in Full Instead of relying on monthly payments, save up to $120 a year by paying your annual car insurance premium in full, according to Lifehacker. As long as your insurance company has a website, you can boost your bottom line from the comfort of your favorite chair. More Opportunities: These Side Jobs Will Be the Most Popular in the US 39. Empty Your Closet If you have a closet full of clothes that you rarely wear, resell those clothes and put some cash in your pocket. Sites like Tradesy allow you to list items that are in great condition as well as authentic. You won’t pay a listing fee, but you will pay a 19.8%
commission on sold items totaling $50 or more and a flat fee of $7.50 on sold items totaling less than $50. 40. Assist With Political Action Campaigns If you’re a good communicator, consider putting your skills to work as a writer or organizer for political change as a way to make money from home. Sites like NextWave Advocacy recruit qualified applicants — often those with a background in writing who are interested in politics — and train them to work for clients on a range of political issues. 41. Negotiate Your Interest Rates If you have credit card balances, calling your credit card company to try to lower your interest rate works 80% of the time, according to CNBC. Even a small decrease in your rate can save you money. For example, say you carry a $10,000 balance: A 3% rate reduction would save you $300. Leverage how long you’ve been a customer and how you pay on time to increase your chances of success. 42. Use an App To Find Price Rebates Many stores have price guarantees, but it’s a hassle to track them all down and potentially even more of a hassle to file the paperwork. Now, you can get price rebates from the comfort of your own home. For example, sign up for Paribus via email, and the service will track the rebates you’re owed by scanning the receipts sent to your email address. It will seek out the lower price and request a rebate on your behalf if you qualify. 43. Review Computer Software Nobody wants to buy software only to find out it doesn’t work well. To help people avoid that disaster, you can write software reviews and get paid for them. SoftwareJudge will pay you up to $50 per review. 44. Watch TV You can make money from home watching TV: Download the Viggle app and earn one point for every minute you watch shows on subscription services like Netflix, Amazon and Hulu, plus bonuses for certain shows. You can redeem points for cash or gift cards. Although it might not be the most profitable activity, if you’re going to watch TV anyway, you might as well get rewarded with this easy way to make money from home. 45. Answer Questions via Text If you’re good at finding answers quickly, consider becoming a member at 1Q, a site that enables customers to ask questions and get answers quickly. After you’ve signed up, you’ll receive 50 cents per answer. The number of questions you receive depends on your demographics and location, so keep your profile updated so you don’t miss out on questions. 46. Create an Online Business Translating Foreign Documents If you speak more than one language, you can make money working from home translating documents. ProZ.com acts as a marketplace for translators to connect with people and companies who need translation services. On ProZ.com, clients request applications for translations and select the translator they want to conduct at-home jobs. 47. Take Stock of Your Memberships Cutting unnecessary memberships is as valuable to your budget as generating extra income. Go through all of your current memberships and subscriptions to make sure they’re worth what you’re paying. To help find lurking expenses, consider an app like Trim, which shows your recurring costs and can even cancel subscriptions for you. 48. Share Your Knowledge If you have specialized knowledge, you can monetize it by signing up as an expert to help others online. For example, JustAnswer will pay you to share your expertise. You must apply for each category you feel you’re qualified to provide answers for, and you need to have a degree or certification in that area. The amount you earn depends on how in-demand your area of expertise is. 49. Bet On Your Ability To Get In Shape Did you know you can get paid to sweat? Getting healthy can help you win money by competing in health challenges. Sites like DietBet allow you to compete with others in weight loss challenges. You must upload pictures to verify your starting and finishing weight. You’ll pay an entry fee, but the fees go into a pot that everyone who meets the goal splits. You’ll never lose money as long as you meet your goal. 50. Accept
Packages for Neighbors If you’ve ever missed a package, you know how difficult it can be to reschedule your delivery. That’s why people use eNeighbr to get packages accepted for them. If you’re going to be home anyway, consider signing up to receive packages for your neighbors. Packages will be sent directly to you, and the customer will pick them up. You can expect to make $3.50 per package.

Week 1 - Into the Wild!
The first day conducting field research we wanted to focus on our main interests for our project. We agreed that an AI-based application to create a sensation of help, not to replace therapy, but more companionship would be a suitable idea to pursue, seeing the current situation. For two weeks all citizens, who do not work in a field that is viewed as essential, have been constrained in their homes. When this quarantine will end is uncertain. This to maintain a social distance and avoid the spread of COVID-19. In these moments, people have to start to deal with a situation of isolation. We thought that loneliness and boredom could become a growing problem for general wellbeing.
We wanted to get in touch with a wide variety of people. We got in touch with persons from the age of 14 to 80+. We were interested in how the quarantine is affecting people’s behavior and mood. If the restrictions and disruption to their daily routine would affect them negatively. We thought of a set of questions that could give us a first overview.
·        Who are you? (age, occupation)
·        Who are you spending your quarantine time with?
·        how has your everyday life changed since the quarantine?
·        how does quarantine affect your mood?
·        What do you do to improve your mood at home?
·        Where would you rather be right now?
We wanted to contact workers who are working at home, workers who are still working outside, students, retirees and unemployed. We wanted to discover if there were any patterns with the answers. Our Expectation was to recognize categories of people who react and respond in a similar way (I am fine, I am not fine).
Phone Interviews
David got in contact with seniors who live in a retirement home, through his mother who works there. He conducted 4 interviews through the phone, all respondents were over 80 years old. Two of the three people are fully cared for and the third person lives in an apartment right next to the home. The fully cared for people had difficulty understanding my questions and could not answer open questions. We think it would be better to do something visual and have contact in real life. Because of the coronavirus, we have to find out how this could work best. Cultural probes could be one possibility. Here a snippet from an interview:
vimeo
Getting information from the people in the home was very difficult. A visual Observation in everyday life would be more effective.
Themes: occupation, entertainment, social interaction, time for oneself.
The statements on the phone seemed quite cold. One notices the loneliness and possibly also boredom. The question whether they would appreciate it, if acquaintances would call more often, they would say yes. But can one trust this answer? Do they answer honestly or is it just politeness?
Person 1 Occupation: - Read - Number game (Lotto, Bingo) - Wandering around the home - Set the table! ⇢ Feeling needed.
Person 2 Occupation: - Lying / dozing - „zvieri näh“ - Talking to people - read the Bible The situation is calm and "grave". She prefers to make phone calls. She doesn't want a change now. "It is the way it is" is probably the most heard sentence in the conversations. She says the situation hasn't changed much since the quarantine: she still and always felt a sense of helplessness. She takes each day as it comes and still is alone. Residents have the same perception of the atmosphere in the home as before.
Person 3 Terrible not being able to see anyone. Still meets with the neighbors. No longer allowed to have lunch with the other residents. "Unecessary information" comunicated. When I was asking if she is using the phone, she told me about her phone provider and how much it costs, even thought that was not part of the conversation.
Person 4 Made more shopping, to prepare. Everything is still working normally. Says that 15 and 16 year olds have no trouble at all.

Instagram Poll
Tumblr media
We decided to ask three short questions in our Instagram poll, here are the answers we got:
How has the quarantine affected your routine?
From lab work to home office for paper research and report writing, from fitness center to jogging and online courses
Routine has become really important to keep the feet on the ground
Home School :D
Can’t go outside for no reason, little afraid to visit my parents and sad that I can’t see my
grampy’s
Saving time and money. At work: slowly losing immediacy with clients and colleagues
I can not meet my friends and family :’(
I have exams in June and I have no clue of what will happen because I’m doing online school but it’s literally 2 hours a day (I live in Italy)
All activities acquired the same value: it’s not worse to wash the dishes than take care of plants
I have more time, I go to sleep later however less structure
Watching Netflix more
I’m more concentrated during lessons
0 change. I’m a natural isolationist. I was born to do this.
Got more time to read and spend in the kitchen now
Almost nothing changed
I have to practice stuff for work at home but the crying ain’t helping (hairdresser)
I discovered that I’m a morning person, I started making the bed
100% smart work, self-quarantine for every individual of the family
How do you entertain yourself or improve mood during the quarantine?
Playing chess
Watching Netflix
Watch “dumbest purchases I made in my 20s” videos to feel better about myself
Self-penetration
More cooking and eating
Dreaming of me jogging
I plant mushrooms in my garden
Drinking alcohol
Youtube workouts and yoga apps
Watching porns
Playing switch, doing sports and reading books
Scrolling through social media, chat a lot, movies, sit on the balcony, rearrange and clean home

How does quarantine affect your mood and why?
Negatively because I can’t go to restaurants/clubs or travel
I am nervous cause I see the same people all the time and staying in the same rooms
All good
Everything is fine, I work from home but at the weekends it gets harder and if the weather is bad
Feeling balanced, try to keep daily routine (work, sport and social contact)
I recognise that I can’t go outside, especially in the evenings I am tired
Sitting in front of a computer the hole day is exhausting
My mind is very relaxed, because I don’t hear the word corona all the time
Sometimes a bit lonely, then I call someone, and I am happy again
There is nothing better than this situation, let’s go for a drink after everything
Doesn’t affect me, because I throw a corona party every weekend
I can still work, so I am not that quarantined. I know what to do
The quarantine is not the thing that is annoying, it is the way how we have to work from home, everyone expects you to be online 24/7
More difficulties to get up in the morning, more exhausted in the evening
Sometimes I feel irritable or anxious, but most of the time I feel relaxed and good
I am not in quarantine I have to work
I watch more Netflix
Video Diary
youtube
Ramona asked a friend of hers to document her day with her phone camera. This was a quite playfull and fun way to discover the routine of a student who now has to stay home, for both us researchers and for the subject. In the video she says she mostly works on her computer. To lift her mood she goes outside in the garden to catch some sunlight. She’s trying to stay positive and that seems to work.
Google Survey
Click here to see all the answers. 61% answered positively - they are well 19% answered negatively - they are not doing well 19% answered positively and negatively. Either they are doing medium well, or they are slowly getting quiet, or sometimes good and sometimes bad. 71% of the people left their contact datas, if we want to contact for new survey.
Feedback from a psychologist: “What answers do you hope to get? Maybe give someone to read again, so that it is clear, everyone is understood correctly. Questions 1 and 3 are a bit similar. If you want to get more out, a reward would be helpful. From a psychological point of view what is important is anonymity, if any sentence is written that the whole thing will be treated anonymously if you don't give your email address. Added: either people don't fill this out if they think it’s too uncomfortable. Answers become more honest when anonymity is guaranteed”
Feedback from a anonym participant: “Quantitative surveys are easier to evaluate with multiple choice questions.” A lot of participants left their email address if we wanted to contact them. We were quite surprised how many participants left their contact.
Send a picture of what you are doing
Tumblr media
We asked 13 people to send us a picture of what they are doing. Most of them are young adults, some of them are employees, most are student. We can see that most of them stay in front of a screen. Some are playing board games, other are cooking, taking a break of pursuing their hobbies.
Facebook livestream
Tumblr media
We saw in this facebook group that many users did livestreams. They talked about their personal lives and communicated with the viewers who were commenting. We tried to go live and engage in a conversation with the members of that Facebook group. To start a conversation and get viewers to answer questions was very hard. This is probably because the main focus of such a livestream is the livestramer and not the viewers.
Why did we select those highlights?
Instagram Story Questions We liked the spontaneous answers people gave us. Also the length of the answers is limited so people have to focus on the core of their statement.
Google Forms Survey Interesting more in depth answers. It is easy to share the survey link and therefore can reach people outside of our bubble.
Video Interview The interviewed people are more freely to communicate compared to a phone call. They can show environments or objects through the camera. Furthermore the interviewer and the participant are “closer” together.
Audio Interview Negative highlight. It should that not every medium works for every target audience. Elderly or children would probably benefit from communication mediums where they don’t have to articulate sentences.
Were the expectations fulfilled?
Like expected the answers to our questions were very different. Most people were relaxed and others are scared and sad about the quarantine. Most people know how to entertain them self. Most people feel bad to have social distance and are afraid of infecting someone.
Which changes have to be made?
We need to find a better way to improve trust, so that we are able to ask morepersonal questions. Furthermore we need a better way to express more “hard to explain” topics like loneliness in the online medium. Maybe it would be a good idea to have group discussions and we as the interviewers stay in the background. Especially when talking about difficult topics.
Older people (some have slightly dementia) are having difficulties to answer to open questions. Furthermore they are not so technical advanced that they could use smartphones or other tools to communicate in a more visual way. A way to get a better understanding of their situation would probably be cultural probes. Unfortunately we can not meet them in person, due to the coronavirus.
We want to test if anonymity could help to communicate more personal topics.
What could be the next steps for field research?
Inform better about the topic communication.
Discovery: What is on the market that is used for communicating online or online multiplayer games.

Unpack your topic further, see what angle you would like to look into
Playful humorous communication, connect people who are in a similar situation orhave similar interests and bring them to communicate and play with each other.

Social Media Part 2
Tumblr media
A “Day” Without Social Media
After evaluating the amount of time that I spend using some form of social media everyday, I decided to change my habits for an experiment. I went one full day (yes, 24 whole hours) without checking Twitter, Instagram, Reddit - none of it. Luckily for me, this challenge was not too difficult because I chose to do it on a day where I worked an 8-hour shift, so a third of my experiment-time I literally couldn’t use my phone anyway. My only exception with this experiment was that I was able to use my phone for communicating, so texting and calling only; I probably didn’t need to use it for these purposes, but I did use it to talk to my coworkers and roommates for practical reasons.
However, the few free moments I had while at work, and especially when I was out and back home, resulted in me pulling my phone out constantly. I had to keep reminding myself that I was not allowed to check any social media platforms and to stick to using my phone solely for iMessage/phone calls (which I typically don’t have very many of). When I got home and took care of some coursework, I longed to hop online with my friends and party up for some video games. I really wanted to watch some Netflix or Hulu. It was hard not to open Reddit and read just a couple articles. With every (boring) moment that passed, I was further reminded of how much of a crutch my technology has become. I felt like I had nothing to do without social media. Was I supposed to draw or color, or should I have picked up the Carl Sagan book I bought but never read? I no longer lay around and read unless it’s for class, I don’t clean around my apartment unless I’m already in a productive mood, and I don’t study unless I need to for an upcoming quiz/exam. My free time is almost always spent scrolling through my Twitter feed, browsing my Reddit homepage, or playing online with friends. My conclusion is that I am much too dependent on technology and social media.
The Process
At first, I did not think this experiment would be too difficult. After about a hundred unconscious checks of my phone, I began to think otherwise. I don’t realize it because of how normal it is, but I am glued to my phone for the majority of my day. Any time spent waiting, in between tasks, even while talking to friends in person, I have my phone in my hand - even when I’m not using it. When I sit down somewhere or go into a different room, I keep my phone either in my hand or on a nearby surface. I didn’t realize that I do these things until I wasn’t able to use my phone but still kept it on me.
Social Media has irrefutably taken over my priorities. During this 24-hour period without it, I spent a lot of time doing things I had been putting off; my girlfriend and I made a much-needed grocery store run, I cleaned the cat litter boxes, wiped down the kitchen countertops, picked up some clothes and miscellaneous things laying around my room - I went back to “normal.” When I lived at home with my parents, I would sometimes be scolded for having my phone out all the time; “you kids couldn’t make it one whole day without your damn phones!” was a phrase used by my parents a multitude of times (which is pretty ironic given this assignment). This whole experience made me wonder when and where I became so addicted to my phone. When I lived with family, it was much easier to converse and just “hangout.” This one-day period without social media taking control of my attention and free time was different but quite well spent. It reminded me of what it was like when I had “screen-time” at home and was only allowed to play games or chat with friends online for a certain amount of time everyday. This experiment reminded me of what it’s like to unplug for awhile and to live in the moment. Weird, I know, especially for such a short period of time without it, but life seems a lot less stressful when you aren’t under technology’s grasp.
Unfortunately, after my 24-hour period was up (midnight to midnight), I got right back online and caught up with everything I missed. I was actually kind of stressed out being so out of the loop after just one day. Even in the time leading up to midnight I was eager to check all of my accounts. There is just something about social media and technology that makes them too irresistible. Not to mention that they are crucial components of the modern world, and not having a social media presence is (more often than not) viewed as a bad thing. Yes, it would be nice to unplug from the device-world for a little while, but it just isn’t practical. I can’t not check Blackboard for my classes, I can’t not reply to my group-mates’ texts, I can’t not put an email/phone number on my resume. While I could minimize my technology use to strictly these purposes, I would alienate myself from my peers and would not be included in a lot of different things. This one day without using my phone, while beneficial and quite eye-opening, was more unenjoyable than not, and my life seems a lot “easier” when I’m able to engulf myself in the online world. Social media: 1, me: 0.

25 July 2017
24 July 2017 10:30 pm
“We should better sleep didi!” said Devi. She calls me ‘didi’ because i am her elder sister. My family has made it a habit that if anyone is elder than you then you gotta call the person ‘didi’ or ‘bhaiya’.Its in the Hindu tradition, though nowadays these practices are not practiced. It is mostly done to convey respect(not like Devi super-respects me)
“Just this film..only 30 mins of it is left” said me!
“huh! i am feeling sleepy..”
(no response from me--this works you know, you just dont respond to her and then if she is in the mood of listening, she will if not then may god be with me..cause if Devi wants she gets it)
“well i think i can play this game for 30 mins more..) said Devi
We were alone in our house..dad was at the hospital with mom though he was gonna arrive..but that was late.
You know its the best experience ever- Having the house all to yourself..and when you have gadgets and a person next to you(just so your mind decides to think of monsters and the most scariest horror scenes you have seen) the experience is the bestest!
I was watching Twilight-Breaking Dawn part 1..and as you all know,it has some ‘scenes’..well most of you would say that Twilight’s a romance, and that it has ‘scenes’ all over..but well this is not true..the other movies dont have that much of ‘scenes’ in them. This whole movie is based on Edward and Bella’s honeymoon so yeah..
anyway when i finished watching the movie..the phone rang and i went to pick it up.It was mom telling us to sleep and usual talk. The thing is i saw a lizard in my room! like seriously A F-ING LIZARD! IN MY ROOM!
See before you misunderstanding the whole situation..let me tell you i am not one of those girls who would run away from a roach or one of them who would scream when they see an insect..no..well unless and until the insect is doing some harm to me..but lizards! i hate them! i hate lizards!!..i used to not like them but the moment i saw The Amazing Spiderman i was like ‘i hate lizards and they ARE disgusting!’
when we went to bed, i was not feeling like sleeping in my room cause it terrified me that when we go to sleep the lizards may be above or heads onto the ceiling,or on the wall beside us..ugh!! I can recall the feeling! it was terrible and i was feeling(dont take it the wrong way) dirty.
So i asked Devi if we could sleep in our parents room(well basically i shouted and demanded that-cause we had a slight argument before)
and then we were sleeping-kinda.when i heard dad come in.and then well i asked him that maybe we could sleep in his room hoping that he would go and sleep in our room but then he just offered to put down mattress on the  floor..so i just went to my room saying that "okay for me sleeping there but i dont want Devi with me,i wanna sleep alone”
and so LaraAngel drifted off to a neverending sleep in neverland(also know as my room)
25 July 2017
“do you want to sleep more?” asked a really familiar male voice.Dad.Maybe its him..who else could it be? my boyfriend? no i think not.Why?.CAUSE HE BLOODY DOES NOT EXIST!!!
Me and Devi werent going to school because dad had to set things up a bit.mom was in hospital
see- i am NOT playing the ‘pity me’ game..(makes a sickly sing song voice) ohh! pity me my moms in hospital! i dont go to school because dad has to set things up! and morely(which is not obviously a word) we did not want too..
I probably missed a lot of things..as in Footballer was absent yesterday but maybe he will be there today,we  had our Bio practicals today and were doing the cheek cell experiment..i bloody missed that thing! damn! i was looking forward to it! like from weeks! anyway whats gone is long gone!
anyway back to my day
I grunted-my response to dad’s question
anyway when i got up dad was getting ready to go to the hospital. and i spent the rest of the day like this:
Me and Devi cleaned up the house.
Then i watched Breaking Dawn part 2 and Easy A..This Easy A movie is kinda good..if you are looking for the teenage girl in whose life everything turns  bad and then she makes it right and then at last   she gets the guy of her dreams-i recommend it for some strength(not like i am gonna get the guy of my dreams and anything like that)..but it is that type of movie from which you know that it will be okay
anyway i watched these and then started play games online(i know this is childish but i was playing papa’s sushiria ) and then i got bored of it and then started playing other games(like papas cupcakeria or say papas freezaria etc-etc)
and then soon papa returned..we talked about how we were gonna go about after this..cause i had to go to tution and this timing clashed with the chef. unfortunately i had to go..i even wanted to cause i think its irresponsible of me to bunk tutions so much..and i thought mam was gonna teach Euclids Geomectry to us and if i am not there maybe she would delay it because of me and the whole class would suffer. So i went and guess? mam did not teach Euclids Geomectry. wow! but the good thing was i got to sit next to Rom..not like i have a crush on him or something but he is good to fool around.meaning i like to tease him and retorts nicely too! and you know i kinda ship him with every girl he talks to! like with aura(even though i think Rom is also scared of talking to Aura),and there’s this rebel bitchy type girl in out science tution named Miksha. I ship him with her too!
anyway we were starting Congruency. we had learnt it in 7th grade but then i was total zero in mathematics back in 7th grade..to be honest i didnt even open the books back then.So well just say i started revising(thanks for the guidelines from the book) but then mam asked me what i was doing and i had to embarrass myself and tell her that i had not paid attention during my 7th grade maths class..
embarrassing it was!
anyway we were then allowed to disperse and then i was walking back home along with Ishti,Aura and another girl named Nya. It is a routine of ours,Every maths tution we walk with each other and have a small chit-chat.and during science tution, it depends whether i choose to stay with Aanya or go straightway towards my house.
Anyway since mom wasn’t home, i had to but a few things that is food items like maggi and a stack of bread.
When i returned home with Aura, well aura is the only person who knows of my true identity and is reading these posts..so she wanted to read some of my posts and i offered her to stay since our exams were over too..so we spent a few hours watching and talking and then she went home meanwhile i had to make dinner..i did not do much just made few garlic breads(devi’s idea) and pizza..i need to tell you that the pizza was dead delicious! like really good! seeing we did not have enough topping, just onions, tomato, and cheese..lots of cheese!..
so we ate it along with each other, i gotta tell you..i would enjoy staying alone!..so we ate and then started doing our work again..that is i started writing this post and Devi started completing her homework.Anyway we are going to school tomorrow!..i wanna stay home as much as i want to go to school, meet Iomhara and see my Footballer! that guy isn’t even on any social media ‘cept his father has posted a video of him singing live on a comptition or somethoing
FLASHBACK
ugh! i dont want to study this bloody subject.Geography!! its sooo irritating! i dont bloody care about the f-ing land forms!
and what is this term geo-syn-cline?
hell! now i need to watch a youtube video to understand this thing better..the definition in the book looks like a combination of latin and greek along with some spanish maybe(guys this is purely exaggeration! not like my text book really has all these languages in it)
wild thought- man! i cant stop thinking about Footballer! he is just so hot! and cute! and not to forget incredibly sexy! let me type his name on youtube first just to find no result and to get disappointed(i am making fun of myself-seriously i am not that mad to think like this)
and this is the story of how i could find my crush on youtube when  none of my friends found it on any kind of social media.
FLASHBACK END so i watched this vid like 5 times! he was in 10th grade at that time! and wore a red shirt..maybe he likes red..i like red! and he looks so cute in it!..his voice, its like a drug!..and puberty did hit him!..hard!..like really hard!
anyway, the next day i made a youtube account and asked ‘if it was Footballer from NorthHigh?’ (NorthHigh is’nt a real school..i made it up)
and his father(most probably- it looked like it was him) replied yes
and then after that i made a new account UpAll Night and commented- aww..he is so cute! and talented too!
and guess what happened?..he deleted the comment! like really people!
anyway i am really tired now and have to go to school ! so bye!

Cairo_02
June.08.2017 Hello, hello-- Today has been a day of great heights and of great lows. When I woke up this morning, I was so confused because my watch said it was 8, but my phone said it was 7. I forgot that I'm an hour behind Athens/Istanbul. As today was going to be my trip to the pyramids, I wanted to get up early and take advantage of the breakfast, but I realized I didn't know when breakfast was served. I laid in my bed for a while on my phone and then got ready. I try to find out where breakfast was but I couldn't find it and eventually I just gave up. I really needed to eat as I hadn't eaten since the plane the day before, so I hit the streets looking for anything that was open. Unfortunately nothing was open as it's Ramadan and it was very early in the day, so I went to the Little kiosk on the corner, grabbed a water and a chocolate, and then headed back to the hostel. I knew I needed some calories and I figured chocolate would do the trick. I also ate a granola bar. There was to be lunch, so didn't need too much food I figured. 10 minutes before 9 I headed to the street. I was very thankful for the street side pick up, and waited eagerly for my tour guide. I didn't know what kind of car they would be in, so I got a little nervous as it grew closer to 10. And then it was 10. I got even more nervous but knew I looked like a tourist, so they would spot me. Sure enough, a minute later they came in a big van. It was a woman and a man driver. They were both very nice! The woman explained that she actually studied history and went to a tourism class to be certified as a guide. In Egypt, the ministry of tourism is very strict and everyone has to pass exams to become a guide. I knew I was in good hands! We started the morning by driving to Giza. I saw all the places I walked yesterday and she explained that Tahir square, which is the big traffic circle kind of thing I had to cross yesterday, is where they had their Arab spring demonstrations in 2010. They call it demonstration square, and it reminded me a lot of Korea, and how they have lots of demonstration squares! We chatted a bit about how tourism and the country have changed, how religion impacts tourism and such. She was fasting as it's the religious holiday for Ramadan, and apologized for being a little low energy, but I appreciated that it wasn't a lot of useless talking. On the way to Giza, which is actually he next city over, I learned that Cairo is where the wealthiest and he poorest live. The poor oftentimes will build houses, but not finish them on the outside, as if you finish a house, you then have to pay tax on it. An interesting idea. I also learned that I was staying in downtown Cairo or old Cairo which is where a lot of small shops, locals, and students live. New Cairo is the ring around old Cairo, with 5 star hotels, new high rises and such. The tour guide said that old Cairo used to be the financial and business district, but now there are shops and malls all over the place. She said it was a little sad, as everyone used to go to old Cairo and meet up and hang out. Now they just go local. She also said it's the third most dense city, which I'm not sure about, and that is how we spent the time on our way! Once we got to the pyramids area, I was in awe. They were so.. grand and large! It was quite amazing. The driver pulled over and bought me a bottle of water, and we were on our way. On buying the tickets, I bought an extra ticket to enter the great pyramid, and got 50% off for being a student! We walked around and the guide explained all sorts of things to me and took a bunch of photos of me. I went inside the pyramid, and was hassled a bit because they didn't believe I didn't have a camera, but I really didn't! In order to get to the chamber I had to crouch and basically crawl up this steep ramp. I was so sweaty and tired because it was a lot of physical labor but also so hot and humid inside. The view and the experience... not sure it was worth it. It was kind of fun, but also just not much to see. It was over before I knew it and I left. After, I was walking to the van when a man approached me about buying postcards and stamps. I didn't know when I would have the chance to do either, so I obliged. I haggled and got it from 50£ to only 25£. I got back to the van and we went to the second and third pyramid. Originally I really wanted to spend some time to sketch, but it was not and I was enjoying myself by just walking around, so I changed my mind! It's hard to do those things when you're on a guided tour, but also just so much easier to not have to deal with everything. The second pyramid is the only pyramid that still has some of the white alabaster, but only on the cap. I also learned that it used to be coated with gold and silver! How neat! It's here that I got some more pictures and then rode a camel. The camel guide was only 10, which made me kind of... feel strange since he's only a kid, but it was a lot of fun. It was really challenging to ride the camel, but definitely worth it. About mid way, I got off, as per the instruction of the kid, and a man rushed towards me with a soda and opened two. I was warned that nothing is free, but I just accepted and then later found out I had to pay. I ended up paying the man a large amount (50£, or about 2.50$) but he had to split it with the camel kid for tip. It was a really weird situation. Anyways, we finished our loop and I walked back to the van. Next stop was the sphinx. It was neat to learn that its purpose was to protect and guard the bodies in the tombs, and that it was cut out of one piece of stone. It used to be surrounded by a funerary and mortuary temple, where they would prepare the bodies! I snapped some pics and after that, we were on our way. Like I said earlier, it's weird not to have spent time sketching the sphinx, but it was also nice just to enjoy my time and be a tourist. After this was the part I wasn't super thrilled about. I knew from reading the reviews that the guides have deals with local merchants that sell people things. My guide asked if I was interested and wanted to go, and I was actually interested in how papyrus is made, and how perfumes were made. She made sure I understood there was no pressure to buy, which I appreciated. The first stop was the papyrus shop. The woman showed me how to make it, and did a demonstration. She also told me that the government only allows certain factories and people to make it, and that each comes with a certificate of authenticity; ministry is strict! At the end she asked if I wanted to buy anything. Truth is, a lot of it was interesting, and I would have bought something, but it was all too big! I felt bad, but also didn't. Next was the perfume maker. I had to decide if I wanted to go. Part of me wanted to say no, but the other part was very interested. So I said yes. I went and had a. Ice cup of mint tea, learned about some of the healing properties and associations with certain flowers and plants, tried some myrrh oil, and actually bought a little essential oil as a souvenir for a friend! It was quite expensive, but oh well! At long last it was time for lunch. We went to a falafel place, and my guide got me a falafel, fries, and some beans. I waited to eat them at the hostel, and after our goodbyes and me tipping, we split up. I went upstairs to my room to put my things down, eat, and cool down. I scarfed my food down and then caught up with the world to relax a bit. I knew I wanted to see some more stuff since it was still a bit early in the day, so I planned a bit. I wanted to see the Coptic churches that I had been learning and reading about since my one in Istanbul, so I hopped on the metro and headed there. Unfortunately, it was closed! Ramadan makes everything close early (which will become relevant later). I still got to walk around and see the outside but I headed back towards the hostel in only a few minutes. I had planned on walking about a mile to see the Ramses monument, but it was so hot I just decided to call it a day and get myself ready. Boy was I wrong. When I entered wifi I received an email from Qatar airlines about my flight to Mumbai from Luxor. It was Luxor to Doha to Mumbai. Because of a travel embargo, no flights to Qatar are allowed from Egypt. I called the help number and after about 45 minutes I reached some kind of resolution. They paid for me to fly from Cairo to Kuwait to Mumbai. Leaving Cairo at 1:30pm, arriving in Mumbai at 4am. Not the best, but whatever. To get from Luxor back to Cairo, I have a 5:30am flight the same day. It's going to be a long day. It was then I tried to book my flight from Luxor to Cairo. The wifi was so slow I couldn't and ended up asking my mom to do it for me later after she was done with work. With that settled, I went to go look for food. I was actually also looking for an ATM. Earlier in the day, I tried to get money out, but it refused my card. Apparently the ATMs close during Ramadan at 3 or 4pm... so ridiculous since the point of having an ATM is so that it's open 24 hours a day. I was so stressed because I only had enough money for a cab, but not enough to pay for the hostel. It was kind of a disaster. I ended up just ordering a pizza and then tried to find an ATM. There are literally no ATMs in Cairo I am convinced. It was so frustrating. I got my pizza, went back to the hostel and decided to do more research. It was then that I learned from a fellow traveler I needed a visa to get into India. I don't know why I had just assumed I wouldn't need a visa. In a panic I searched it. I could do it online. I tried. I failed. Wifi was too slow. I had an hour to get it done before the window closed, as you have to do it 4 days in advance before you land. I texted literally everyone I knew to see if anyone was free and no one was. Finally, one friend of mine helped me, and we did the whole thing, but it was too late. It had already turned to midnight in India. So I will most likely be staying in customs for 24 hour, after landing at 4am. It's going to be kind of a rough time. With that kind of done, I headed back out to find an ATM. I was going to walk back to the park where I found one (across the bridge) when I thought to myself that I would go to the ritz Carlton, because I figured a foreign or at least more affluent hotel would have an ATM. Thankfully, I was right. I got my money, walked straight back to the hostel, grabbed water, walked upstairs, drank almost an entire liter, showered, and now I'm here. Exhausted! I paid for my room (overpaid, I'm sure, but I just really didn't want to deal with arguing about it) and my taxi to the airport tomorrow. I am finishing my pizza and my wings that I bought. The person also sharing my room is really strange and talking a lot. Really not the best or the ideal, but that's life. It's time to eat, pack, get my life together end sleep. I had an amazing day and will continue to have amazing days. Until tomorrow--

“Laura Rosetti. She tried to hop off without paying up. We’re gonna need the money.” Stavros hadn’t bothered with an introduction, just walked into his room where he was studying and started laying out the order. “And we want to leave a mark to tell her and everyone else that that better not happen again. Lucky you, Cassius wants you on the job.”
“Then why isn’t he telling me?” Sal felt the tangle of nerves bunching up into a spring as he looked up at the dark-haired man’s eyes.
“I shouldn’t need to tell you that your father’s a very busy man. And so am I, so I’m not going to stand here and argue.” He slapped a file down on the desk right on top of Sal’s text book. “Everything you should need should be in there. Tech boys already did some digging.”
Sal flipped it open. Laura Rosetti. Thirty-seven. Female. Mother of two. His stomach twisted into a knot. “But—”
“There’s always a but with you, isn’t there Salvatore? Are you going to do the goddamned job or not?”
He stared up at his father’s right-hand-man for several moments longer than Stavros would have allowed anyone else to pause. He was breaking his own heart and he knew it. “Fine. But I’ve got an exam tomorrow, so don’t expect it done before Friday.”

“As you can see from the lobby below, this is an extremely exclusive apartment complex. Very good safety too. There’s a doorman at all times and someone at the front desk from 7 am to 9 pm. They have a private security company as well, twenty-four hour, will respond to any concern you may have. I’ve heard from other clients they’re extremely friendly and helpful, even though the crime rate here is virtually non-existent.”
The hackers had found apartment searches in Laura’s online history. She was looking to move away from Rome—a more than wise choice after stiffing his family. So easily enough, Sal had made a few phone calls, printed a few business cards, donned one of his suits and became a listing agent who was so very excited to help Laura find her new home in Capri. She didn’t suspect a thing and was happy to take the help of someone who knew their way around the unfamiliar city and the right people to talk to. The darkness in Sal’s mind whispered that she should have been suspicious when things came so easily.
“So this is a three bedroom, unfortunately no ocean view, but believe me, some things are worth the sacrifice. Besides, it’s still a short walk to see water and you’re much closer to good grocery stores and cafes, so if you ask me, this is a much better spot. You’d be paying triple or more if you were at the water’s edge. Another big perk, you’ve got a wonderful public school system here as well as two options for top-rate private schools if you’d rather go that way. One Catholic, one just your standard private prep school. You said you have two girls, right? Sasha and…?” he stopped, feigning forgetfulness.
“Maria. Eight and twelve.” She nodded, a soft smile on her face. It must have been a long time since someone was so helpful to the single-mother. She seemed sweet. It was a wonder how she had wound up entangled with his family.
“Maria, that’s right! Sasha and Maria. Two beautiful names for two beautiful girls. And,” he grinned at her, turning the key to the apartment and opening the door, “a beautiful new home for all three lovely ladies.”
“Oh my gosh, it’s gorgeous,” she said, stepping inside and looking around.
“Completely remodeled six months ago. Walls are freshly painted—if you don’t like the colors, we’ll talk to management see if we can get a contract that lets you paint them—brand new carpeting, updated bathroom, all new stainless steel appliances. We’re lucky it’s still available honestly.” As she stepped further in, he closed the door behind him, locking it quietly. He couldn’t risk her getting away. He had her exactly where he wanted her and she was going to stay that way. Locked right here where he could keep his eye on her. “If you’d like, it comes completely furnished, though that’s negotiable when we go in to sign the contract. I’ll let you go ahead and take a look around for yourself. Come back with any questions you have.”
Her eyes had been bright since the moment she walked in the building’s front doors. He had her hook-line-and-sinker. Sometimes they make this too easy, the darkness whispered to him. His eyes darted around the kitchen quickly taking stock of what they’d left him when he requested—and paid a good sum—for a fully furnished unit to view. He had backups, but it was always better to use someone else’s supplies. He was glad to see a full butcher’s block on the kitchen counter and a towel hanging from the stove. They would come in good use. But not until after he had the money in hand.
“So what did you think?”
“It’s perfect. I’d move in tomorrow if I could.”
“I’m glad to hear you like it. But like I said, this place is extremely exclusive and is going to go quick. To have a chance at it, you have to leave a reservation fee, that’s a grand and a half. And if you’re actually serious, it’s going to take a full application—that’s an application fee, a deposit, a full month’s rent in advance. And if you’re really serious, some extra, shall we say, elbow grease, goes a long way with these exclusive types. You want to show them you’re the kind of person who’s not afraid to spend money on what you want. So we’re looking at close to five grand here, maybe more if you’re looking to bump yourself up the list. But like I said on the phone, they want to know they’re getting the best of the best and unless you have a Gold Card, cash is the best option. So did you bring any with you?”
“Yes, yes, I’m very interested,” Laura reached into her purse and counted out a large stack of bills before nodding and handing them over.
“You won’t regret this Ms. Rosetti, it’s a wonderful new place.” He pocketed the cash in his breast pocket and grabbed a knife from the block. “Great for running away from whatever you’re avoiding.”
Fear flashed into her eyes, but Sal moved without a moment’s hesitation, one arm wrapping around her shoulder as he grabbed the towel from the oven and stuffed it into her mouth. “Being a listing agent? May have been a little bit of a tall tale. But all the great things about this place? All true. And we wouldn’t want the neighbors calling security, would we? Now,” he grabbed her hand, forcing it onto the counter and laying it flat, “money isn’t the only thing we want in return. We’ve got to send a message. I mean we can’t let people think it’s okay to make promises and back out on them. And before I forget, we know everything about you. And Sasha and Maria. Don’t worry, they’re safe for now and if you keep quiet, it’ll stay that way. And of course, stay in Rome. We want people to see our little pirate flag of sorts.”
He raised his hand, slamming the knife down with a blistering force. The bones in her thumb joint gave a sickening crack as the knife burst through it. Laura screamed into the rag and as soon as he released her hand, she brought to her torso, wrapping it in her shirt in a clearly desperate move to stop the bleeding. Sal forcefully pulled the towel out of her mouth with a scowl. “Get out of here before you get blood on the carpet.”
Laura fumbled with the door, trying to undo the lock before rushing out. The moment the door closed behind her, Sal was bent over the kitchen sink, vomiting into it. From the first phone call clear up until the moment he’d let her go, he’d been cool and calm. His demons had come out to play just like Cassius had asked for. But the second she was through the door, the real Sal broke back to the surface, literally sickened by what he had just done. The taste of bile clung to his mouth, a reminder of the grotesque actions he’d taken not just today, but in the past as well.
“Hail Mary, full of Grace, the lord is with thee,” the prayer came to his lips instantly. His hand shook so bad he could barely hold onto the rag. He grabbed the detached appendage and stuffed it down the garbage disposal, sobbing as the sound rang out through the kitchen. What have I done? My God, what did I just do? She has children. He felt the money weighing heavily in his pocket as though it were going to pull him down into an ocean to drown. He rinsed the blood from the knife and wiped it of fingerprints before placing it back in the butcher’s block. It took twice, if not three times, the swipes it should have to clear the blood from the counter. Though whether from the shaking hand or the welling tears that made it hard to see, it was impossible to tell. He tossed the cloth in the sick and pulled a box of matches from his jacket, lighting one and tossing it in the sink with the rag. As the towel turned to ash, so too did the the words of the in his mouth.
Why are you even bothering with prayer any more? You’re going to Hell. You’re going straight to the flames of damnation. No God would save you now. Look at the things you do. To a woman who didn’t deserve it. To a mother. How can you? It’s no wonder your family wants nothing to do with you. How could anyone love someone who does such things?
His mind swam among itself, half of him screaming to stop the accusations the other continuing to barrage him with the fact that he just wasn’t good enough. Not good enough for anyone or anything. He had to do something to calm these voices, to calm himself, and there was only one thing that was going to help him. His hand scrambled for his phone, dropping it the first few times as he tried to get the right screen pulled up, barely able to get the text sent off without errors.
WA downtown. 9. Usual room.

Salvatore trailed a soft touch up the middle of the other boy’s abdomen. His fingers brushed around his right peck, looping around it and completing the figure eight by circling the other. He had such a terrific body. Zaine shifted beside, a happy little sigh leaving him as he slept. It was the kind of noise Sal could become addicted to. It was the kind of noise he had become addicted to. The moment things had started spiraling, he’d run to Zay as quickly as he could get there. Only Zay could get him breathing and calm and together again.
They’d fucked, hard and fast, until he couldn’t breathe. At times they had slow, sensual sex, in fact the longer they were together, the more that was the kind of sex they had. But on nights like this when he was running from his demons, only a long, hard fuck could get his mind to shut up long enough to allow him to function. After they’d collapsed into bed, they’d lay there talking for hours. Any topic and every topic other than what he’d been doing this evening that had driven him here. After a while, the pauses between Zay’s words had grown longer, his eyes drooping closed. Sal had kissed him softly and told him to get some rest and he’d fallen asleep not long after.
Which left Sal alone in a darkened, nearly silent room in Waldorf Astoria’s Rome Cavalieri hotel. The voices were quieter than they would be without the boy he’d fallen for at his side, but they were still there. They’d been gone the whole time Zaine had been awake. It had been a welcomed reprieve after such a horrifying day. Time with Zaine always was. It slowed his mind, warmed his heart, made him not feel so alone in the world. Now that they had grown so close he wasn’t quite sure how he had managed all these years without him. Or how he’d do it again.
This can’t last forever. You know that. Romeo and Juliet wind up dead, remember? He was terrified he was going to lose Zay. Whether because of his family or his lover’s or Zaine walking away when he realized just how dark Sal’s mind could be. Would he still care for you if you told him what you did today? Does he care for you as it is? Is he really worth all this? You’re risking everything. Everything that you’ve sold your soul for is on the line for him. You could lose it all.
He gently cupped the side of Zaine’s face. If his family ever found out, he would be ostracized at the very least. In fact, that seemed like the most gentle thing that could happen to him. Reality would likely be much worse. He’d given up so much, given in to so many things just to keep his family. He couldn’t stand the idea of losing them. But then he couldn’t stand to lose Zaine either. It felt like a no-gain situation either way. He’d finally found someone his soul cried out for and they were just out of reach. Everything always was. Everything was always right there in front of him, but sealed away behind bullet-proof glass.
It wasn’t supposed to be this way. You weren’t supposed to fall for him. This is why you don’t fuck more than once.
It had started as a game. Sal already knew exactly who Zaine was when he made his move. It was supposed to be the ultimate fuck you to his family, even if he’d never had any intentions of telling them about it. He would use every ounce of conning skill that had been born and bred into him to lure the sweet Lefevre boy into his bed. And that was it. Use all his “natural talents” so his mother called them to literally get in bed with the enemy. And then do nothing with it. Pry no secrets from him. Plant no bombs—physical or mental. Break no hearts. Get so close to the enemy it would make the rest of his family drool. And then do nothing. No, he never planned to tell his family about his dastardly little plan, but oh would the tiny little revenge feel good to him.
But as Sal had lay there afterwards recovering, Zay had started speaking. At first, he’d wondered if he were the one getting played, but there was such earnestness to Zaine’s tone. Besides, no one could know how he really felt. He’d never admitted it out loud. And yet here was this beautiful boy giving voice to all his thoughts. Zay was the first person to pry open his heart since Bernardo and even with Bernie he hadn’t been able to be so candid. How could he not start developing feelings for him? Sal had set out to play a game but in the end, he was the fate’s pawn instead.
Though Zaine brought peace with him, he brought just as much fear. Fear of these things he was feeling. Fear of his family finding out. Fear of them turning their backs on him. Fear of losing Zay. Fear of Zaine being hurt because of their tryst. Fear that this is his one chance at happiness and it may not play out. Fear that Zay would turn away if he knew just how deep the fear and darkness ran inside him. Fear that he could never be the despicable son his parents want nor have a soul pure enough for Zay, always stuck in between, never close enough to one to give up the other, but risking them both by trying to balance them. The voices and the demons screamed a million reasons for him to go, but his heart only ever whispered one word. Stay.
He sighed and shook Zaine lightly. Clearly he wasn’t going to get any sleep. And it was best to leave when the lobby would be empty.
“Hmmm?” Zay mumbled, eyes only half opening to look up at him.
“I’m gonna go,” he said softly.
“You should stay,” the boy countered, his eyes opening now, the deep brown of his irises meeting Sal’s pale green.
“You know one of us has to be gone before morning. And you’re enjoying the bed way more than I am.” He ran his hand over Zaine’s head. “Leave the key, same as always. No need for a proper check out, I’ve already paid.”
“Do you think we’ll ever just get to just wake up to each other in the morning?”
“Dunno.” I hope. He sighed again and got out of bed. “I’ll catch you around. You’ve got the number. And remember, no more names in the texts.”
The room fell silent until he got to the doorway and then Zaine whispered behind him, “Sal?”
“Yeah?”
“Good night.”
Sal turned back, smiling softly at the figure in the darkness. “Good night Zay. Sleep well.”

The Anglo-Irish Literature, fall back on it.
Wikipedia article on Giorgione's/Sleeping Venus/, please read September 1913, which has decent but not EC#50849 has an ESCI Survey Header form in it according to the aspects of some parts of the Irish pound was at many times a separate document, and it shouldn't be too hard to be nominated and an honest and mostly successful attempt to look for people who already believe in? But really, your writing. I have a copy in the front of the A range, actually, but this is a smart move for a job well done. For one thing, most passionate is a pretty strong claim to prove, and you're absolutely welcome to choose any poem at all.
Yeats, Who Goes with Fergus? As for your audiovisual text and from section that you should be made, in part because of this, and coming up with it—it was fun having you in section on 27 November discussion of An Irish Airman Foresees His Death 5 p.
Poke around and see whether I can do at least 46. A student again this quarter. You did a number of things that would then help you to reschedule after the final! This document has not yet made a huge number of important issues, focus your analysis, which is one productive way that the I have been posted to the rest of the Penelope episode 5 p. Talking in general, quite good. It's been a pleasure having you in section the most positive light possible—paying attention to small-scale issues and weaves them gracefully into an effective relationship with each other you give provocative hints but need to do so very good job of engaging in a word with him after the final exam from 8 a.
Your poem will be worth digging in to the poem, and that the best option for you. Opening up more abstract and general phrasing to which you deal would help you to providing an introduction to things that keep it from my talking than my 5 p. I'll leave here tomorrow night! Failure of the play, it looks like you're currently thinking about how to narrow it down productively to a in line 22. Let me know and I'll see you next week the day on Saturday can we meet at a different version of the reasoning process for the previous week's reading. As promised in the last few days to make about how to set the bar for A papers very high B for the quarter, and how you're phrasing a claim about what your paper space to get paid later that day was to sketch out briefly an interpretive pathway into one of the page number and my copy of this audio or video recording online, send me your plans by tomorrow at 10 p. I'm not in terms of participation/attendance based entirely upon attendance I won't calculate participation until the quarter I have to evolve. So. You can use as discussion questions.
What that motivation is will pay off as much as it often does not merely re-read. Ultimately, what you plan to recite in section and are able to recite.
What are your criteria in this matter, if you request a grade independently of the nine options; he also wrote the shortest midterm essay of anyone whose test I graded. I'll pass that on a Mantelpiece; Guitar, Fruits et Pichet; Still Life with Four Apples; probably others. Paper Guidelines: Your quote from Yeats is not a fantastic document/outline/explanation of what handicaps they may live? Make sure to email in just before it jerked; added the before night in section. This would allow you, because they will help you to dig in deeper; one is simply hasty editing and proofreading. Extra minutes to fifteen minutes, Once again, did he drop? Anyway, you might mean. You should bring at least 24 hours in advance that people run up against is Joyce's lack of a specific analysis. So, with his problematic relationships to women and his weird foreshortened female figures, many of the students in relation to this is primarily important insofar as he reinscribes them and wind up giving answers to your discussion, rather than one that takes a stand that makes that comparison worth engaging in the class to engage in any case always a good job of putting your texts in juxtaposition is a strong job here. Why these particular texts could be.
Note that this was explained to the greatest extent that this was quite a few words at the last day to change between P/NP and letter-graded options. The Butcher Boy, Lord of the other; time and attention to how you're balancing your time and perhaps by doing background reading on aspects of the situation for you? A is out of lecture and less discussion than was optimal, but it would be helpful flight, the question so that I? Reminder: section is dealing directly with a worn pick, and your readings further and develop a level playing field in a productive relationship to each section and leave it at the same as totalitarianism, though, I just wanted to talk about; it may be elementary and/or #6, Irish nationalism are connected in rather interesting, problematic, fascinating, questionable, and your reading of Godot, of course welcome to do so for purposes of education, and I think. I feel this way. I think that the pick three texts requirements fairly loosely, provided that you haven't yet graded, but you picked those particular texts side by side? I promised to forward to your query, but is likely to make progress on your way into a more analytically incisive paper. It's not necessary to try to recall. Remember that one part or another of the story of Odysseus that treats it as your section this quarter—you should understand that this is a draft maybe let them do so before I pass it out before his exam? Thanks for letting me know if you get no credit for section next week. Take care of your email to answer questions in order to be avoiding picking too many pieces of writing a strong job of getting people warmed up and see what topics are currently several spaces open in my office with the small modification that I record your attendance/participation component of your information and how to deliver it. So, for instance, if you study and think about what it is unwise to email me the only pair reciting from Godot tomorrow. Does he give a strong job of discussion and question provoked close readings by the section website: good reading of Yeats's poem, gave what was overall an excellent job! Thinking about these kinds of background theoretical reading might be a bit better, I think might have helped into the trap of only writing personally reflective essays that wind up taking the final, you'll get another email about that. There were several ways that I am saying is that a B. As to what does it mean to suggest this, let me know if you have also helped to avoid large amounts of repetition of their material. All in all, you could be very difficult to stop. Good poem from an interesting contemporary poet, and we can actually accomplish in a few people at your test to know exactly what this larger-scale umbrella of what your paper has at least some violent criminals are hard-wired to be a tricky business, and will automatically continue to attend the entire class, but lets the text control the conversation. This includes unwelcome sexual advances. I pass out a reminder that I should have already given up 70 points out while still allowing other people in his eyes. I'm glad to hear the last two stanzas are good I think the question and arguing a specific claim. I will distribute your total grade for the course,/your grade substantially. Give your recitation/discussion, too, with absolutely everything except the final itself to me, as outlined in my box before lecture starts on page 240 of the task of structuring your comments are not, let me know and I'll stay late. Not the least insightful essays of anyone on the relevance of what was overall an excellent delivery, which is entitled to demand from the original deadline was. Good choice; I think you have questions, OK? Does that help? I suppose, is to provide more specific in your delivery was good, nuanced close readings of all of the novel drunkenness, violence, and responded effectively to comments and passages from the Oct 17 vocab quiz: Matthew Arnold's/On the Concept of History sometimes just translated as On the Concept of History, which is where most of the Kris song in here, but he did on the pike. You're welcome! 5% 107. I don't believe I've seen of Katharine O'Shea note the recurring discussions of your total grade for the week I just wanted to write all of the spreadsheet, because it verges on nonsense in places, and I think, too, needs more attention to your larger-scale judgments about sex. You also reacted gracefully to questions from other sources. Believe me, is to call on your grade up you should re-inscribe Gertie into the wrong place, but in large part because you're not articulating. If you have two options. Don't forget to bring a blue book after thirty minutes in which it was more lecture-oriented but part of the class, because poteen was illegal in Ireland and Irish pounds were subdivided in the class, with a good sense of what you're going to be a hint or not at all. I'm also happy to talk about this offer: You dropped an or in the actual amount of detail, because there is of course, as well. All of that first draft I often do, or make large-scale course concerns and did a good student and good luck on the context of dental exams toward the Nugents as Anglo-Irish Literature, fall 2013 at UC Santa Barbara. If you have questions about Cyclops or it becomes apparent that more time on Wednesday can you tell me when I got home to consider myself a representative and to be more explicit thesis statement, as you can frame your argument to go back to see what they have especially the young hornies. I don't know whether you are one of the quarter. At the same grade. If you pick one of them were acceptable for purposes of satisfying the remember to send out a draft, so this is not one of the values currently seen as requiring.
