(this is more of a ramble than anything)
the thing i'd like to see in s2 for the greens is not so much shying away from darkness, it's just... i want something different. the plotline they're v likely to settle on - manchild gets a crown on his head and turns mean towards his family members - is just so cliche. we're already had that with joffrey. why can't we get a different flavour of darkness or sickness.
alicent, helaena and jaehaera already have so much physical and psychological violence performed on them by the narrative that i don't see the point in adding aegon abusing them on top of that. they're going to suffer plenty already? meanwhile daemon is so gallant he beheads people for calling rhaenyra a whore 😑 baela & rhaena are protected and nothing bad happens to them, rhaenys dies a heroic death and will no doubt be mourned by everyone...
if s2 is not going to be an opportunity to humanize aegon, then when is it going to happen? are we just going to trudge til the end of the show with whitewashed victim rhaenyra, protector of women, while aegon & aemond get the monster treatment and alicent weeps in a corner, thinking about how rhaenyra is SO much more suited at ruling? ehhhhhhhh.
there are so many narrative and thematic beats in the text of the dance that they could use to concoct a truly compelling and innovative story
anyway. perhaps i'm not feeling v optimistic today but when aegon waltzes into the frame next season commodus-style with his menagerie of 300 sex slaves we're just gonna have to roll our eyes and pin some needles into the hbo-shaped voodoo doll
