here  ,  at the end of the world  ,  he feels so  ashamed  to be looking erwin in the eyes.  at one time  ,  he had  truly  looked up to him  ,  believed in him with all his heart.  here  ,  now  ,  if there was  anyone  he hadn’t wanted to see this side of him  ,  it was the commander.  so many people had died because of him  ,  he carried their memories  ,  their hearts  ,  their  pain  like stones on his back. 

‘ i got people killed.  i killed people, how- ’ 

he breaks off  ,  one hand pushing the loose strands of hair from his face.  how could erwin  ,  how could  anyone  look at him  &  see anything worth forgiving ??  that was the whole point  ,  to make himself the  enemy  ,  to unite everyone through their hatred of him  ,  to turn his former allies against him so they have no choice but to deem him unforgivable  ,  a  monster  ,  to sentence him to  death  .  

one hand pressed to his temple  ,  eren breathes out a sharp  sigh  .  he had never truly understood erwin before  ,  why did he believe he might now ??  he closes his eyes for a moment  ,  shaking his head.  this was the end of it all  ,  why did he  care  about this now ?? 

‘ doesn’t matter, what’s done is done, isn’t it ?? ’ 

he didn’t  need  anyone’s forgiveness  ,  he didn’t  want  it.  but maybe  ,  of all the people  ,  erwin understood him  ,  on some level.

it takes a devil to know a devil  ,  he supposes.
