see see this is a big part of what's gone. whatever tf that process of active memory retrieval is. so recalling and holding onto information at will, but also like for example when i have to look for something these days, i can't actively seek the visual object, i have to like just scan my eyes around and hope if it's there it triggers my pattern recognition. i can't "keep an eye out for it" as they say

#also my uhhh.... short- no long term memory is broken? or maybe both of them? #like in addition to the inability to access stuff the memories aren't being encoded correctly in the first place? #they stay in short term format and only bits gradually crystallize to long term. so when i remember it feels like it just happened #like the me in that moment just woke up like where tf am i last thing i remember i was dying after work in 2021. #obviously it's not like a split personality thing it's still just a memory not active perception or something. but. still very disorientin #funny hearing people musing on like “how much of who we really are is actually our memories and interpretations??” and whatever #and it's like brotha you dont have to wonder memory loss and damage exists you know. dementia and brain damage exist. just ask someone man #the early 21st century personal identity craze is gonna be remembered as this century's freudianism #identity or memories or opinions aren't integral to being human or an individual. sure they're common but not integral #try getting to know someone who doesn't have them and you'll understand better where the humanity really is....
