#i've mentioned cliffjumper a fair amount?

Okay, so I’ve at least dealt with the death of Breakdown and the disappearance of Airachnid, so I might as well work on the other Decepticon casualties. I was gonna work on Airachnid’s backstory, but when I took a step back I remember that there was only one Autobot death in comparison to the five we got in canon (Obviously Breakdown but I’ve saved him, Skyquake, Dreadwing, Hardshell and the mysterious Makeshift, remember him?). I’ve taken the time to go ahead and... even things out before I go killing Autobots.
Because, coming right out of the gate, Cliffjumper is immediately out for the count, one of the earlier Decepticon deaths should still happen. My first thought would have been Skyquake, because he’s got his own partner in Dreadwing and may be a decent replacement for Cliffjumper as the first death in the series (as if the first episode played out in reverse roles) and serve as emotional motivation for Dreadwing.
But the problem with that is now I either continue this trail of fatalities or leave me with ‘less significant’ characters to work with.
Makeshift is brought to mind. Not to stamp on any of his fans, but Makeshift doesn’t have much that I can work with and not exactly known for his character interactions... but what if he pulls a ‘Longarm/Shockwave’ situation and is thusly executed when caught. Sneaking information out of the Autobots and into the Decepticons would garner a good relationship with Soundwave, surveillance partner in crime, and perhaps a good player in death related motivation?
In that case, I think giving the Autobots their Autotroopers would help Makeshift hide in plain sight without me bringing in another Autobot or false character that doesn’t already appear in TFP, nor have him already appear as Wheeljack before he makes it onto earth.
As for Skyquake, perhaps his first fight isn’t made his last, now that Starscream isn’t trying to make a point to the Vehicons (which I think they’d still have, just sorta halved? idk, I’m winging this) and Soundwave isn’t playing family camera. Might even be the time that Cliffjumper’s killed, it can even still be from Starscream if Cliff’s attempt to ground Skyquake sets him into a self-defensive panic that essentially trades one character for another. Probably more meaningful than Skyquake’s canon death, but I suppose you can feel the way to want to feel.
Honestly? All I want now from Skyquake and Dreadwing is some cute twin moments (don’t mind me).
So... Hardshell... Do I want you to live or kill off one of the Autobots? Sure, the Insecticons are quite the cannon fodder and Hardshell’s essentially one of the ‘steves’ of them, but it could also be a defining moment where the perceived minions downs an Autobot. It’s either Bulkhead or Wheeljack that’ll get it so I’m not too sure about Hardshell’s survival but I’ll get to that when I thought about it some more.
Dreadwing’s chances of living are far more significant than in canon, seeing as though he still has his brother, but that doesn’t mean he’s out of the deep end. I’m thinking instead of giving the Autobots the Forge of Solus Prime, Dreadwing sorta attempts to take it from them? Unlike Smokescreen’s risky stunt, he’s not actually successful and instead becomes a prisoner for ransom. Emotional drama here, need to restore Cybertron there, Dreadwing is almost traded for the keys, but reckless brotherly affection drives the twins to risk each other’s lives and the restoration of Cybertron.
Let’s just say that there’s still a hole to fix in Dreadwing’s chest after the rushed plan fueled by brotherly emotions. He’s fine don’t worry, he just got shot in the ‘rib’ area. Doesn’t mean he can’t be reprimanded for his practically idiotic behaviour but at least the keys are still in their possession...
Right?
(The events may change as I rough in these ideas, especially if there are Autobot deaths throughout).
