i think the reason why (white) fans of korean/japanese media are so wicked to people that aren't lightskin is because they lowkey forget that these are poc and this is nonwhite content that they are consuming. so when a kpop idol has darker skin or a darkskinned person wants to cosplay an anime character or a darkskinned person is a character in a show, it's essentially a reminder that the media that they're consuming doesn't have white people. and they don't like that, so they lash out. it's honestly just racism but more complicated because they come up with a million excuses for it but that's just the truth.
