HWS Prussia's age and when nations were born, all in one post, sorry for rambling
Just had the sudden realization that Prussia isn't thaaaaat old. If we consider that his first version was the State of the Teutonic Order, that means that he was "born" circa. 1200s.
I mean, that's old when you compare him with young nations, but in that continent full of old-farts, he seems kind of a fledgling. Portugal, who's supposedly one if the oldest countries in Europe, had alredy defined borders as Portugal by the 1100s, but apparently even then an identity had long been established in that region. Bulgaria, another serious contestant was already there in the late 600s. So these 2 probably were lanky kids entering puberty while Prussia was doing his firsts steps.
That being said, the exact date of birth of these nation-anime-boys is confusing af. We do see things like the Italy brothers interacting with Rome (which would mean that both of them are older than Prussia?). This kind of makes sense since the idea of an Italy already was written, apparently, in roman literature. I do have a theory that they change of identity and have several names before their actual one, but there needs to be a cultural and geographical cohesion (amd a bit of luck) to finally establish a country as we know it.
I also enjoy having the mental image that every cohesive socio-cultural group has some weird kid that seems to age slowly and is somewhat sickly but, as soon as the group breaks, said kid returns to a normal age-progressing. Which means that million of nations existed but never could be, and the ones that we know are the ones that could survive that.
