We put a bunch of cc ideas (hair and clothes) in a discord server we have together and then work on the stuff together on call usually so each item is the way we both want me. Like for example i’ll be meshing the Ivy top while he works on texturing the ribbed version. We also only do collabs when they happen, we didn’t plan AxA 2019 or this new set, mainly just made cc starting in May and wrapped it up in July to release in August. Then this time we started making stuff late December and got most of it done by the time I got done with my break. Having a planned collab/deadline makes stuff less stressful and the stuff usually turns out better imo

omg noooo ;n; yeah Litten is a cutie... incineroar is... well I got used to him tbh and kind of like him now? I absolutely hate scorbunny’s evolution (and most of the SWSH starters final evolution) so I think that made incineroar slightly better in my eyes. My shiny litten will be staying a kitten however :)

I really really wanted to have all my 2019 hairs updated by 2020. It was only January 2019-April 2019 that needed updated (thumbnails and display indexes). But I just lost motivation for doing it. I will focus on it next time I have a big break from school. Also planning on updating select stuff from 2018 and 2017.

this is a late as hell reply i’m sorry. I think that you have texture where the glasses texture would be. Hair texture should only be in hair section or hat section (if you don’t want it hat compatible). Here is a UV map layout that I use for making hair textures. It shouldnt have anything to do with weights

I do use reshade when I take cc previews. It adds a bit of saturation to my sims and gives them some shadows under their chin/clothes. Nothing major. Also, myself and @imvikai came up with the tropical punch palette together.

WARNING: MASSIVE SPOILERS AHEAD FOR "PREY". IF YOU HAVEN'T PLAYED, DO. NOT. READ. (this means you Dalis!)

So that ending was pretty fucking nuts amirite?!? I half called it too. I was pretty sure it was all a simulation, but I had no idea how HUGE of a concept it really was. The opening hour’s reveal of the apartment sim just screamed foreshadowing, I knew they weren’t gonna only do that once. But see, there are some questions needing answers, One big question in particular I haven’t seen anybody ask: So what REALLY happened on Talos 1? If what we played was a sim based on the real Morgan’s memories, then what actually happened during that time? What choices did the real Morgan make? Why were Mikhayla, Igwe, Danielle, and Elazaar all Operators at the end?? And why is Morgan not around anymore??? Well, I’ll lay down everything I know, and put together the pieces that fit, few as they may be. If you’ve played this game too (you better have, if your reading this) then please, I invite you to add to this, poke holes in any theory you see that doesn’t hold up, lets all figure this wierd ass game out together!

1. Alex Yu

So, he’s alive and well at the end, the Real end, I mean. meaning, during the Actual Talos 1 incident, Morgan did not choose to kill his brother. Which also rules out the Destroy ending, as it dooms Alex to the station’s fate. So, if the human-typhon creature were to do a perfect recreation of Morgan Yu’s choices during that ordeal, it would get a conclusion that involves the Nullwave device, Alex surviving, and January dying. (It seems like Alex always kills January unless you intervene in that particular ending) So, canonically, Alex Yu survived the Talos 1 incident, January most likely died, either by Alex or Morgan’s hands, and Talos 1 was not destroyed. The Looking Glass simulation the Typhon-human hybrid finds itself in however, allows for different outcomes, as a way to test it’s mirror neurons, which brings me to my next theory…

2. This whole game was a personality test.

Its actually super meta when you think about it. At the start, they give you a literal personality test, they ASK you questions. Push the fat man? Derail the train? Vacation somewhere new? Its all relevant to what your going to be doing later in the actual story. That’s the part where you give your REAL answers by your actions. I’m sure we all at first picked options like “Try something new for vacation, save the most people on the tracks,” etc. But when we actually played the game, our true answers were much different. “Go somewhere new for vacation?” = How open are you to trying new things? Most would pick “New”, instead of familiar, yet those same people likely used more Human based Neoromods than Typhon based ones. Our choice in playstyle reflects our true answer to that question. I played my first run like I was playing Doom, the run and gun shooter style was more comfortable for me. My true answer, as proven by my playstyle, was “Do something familiar” The train tracks question is basically about the needs of the many verses the needs of the few, and I’d also wager that most of us, at the beginning chose the needs of the many. Yet in our actual playthrough… Consider this, The Many = the billions of people on Earth we are trying to keep the Typhon away from. The Few = the hundreds of people on Talos 1 who are suffering and fighting for there lives. Who did you help more? If you bothered helping a single person on Talos 1, you put the needs of the few higher. Because by helping them survive and have better chances at escape, you endangered Earth. I answered “Switch the tracks so the five people tied down are saved” to that question at the beginning, AKA the needs of the many. Yet in my playthrough, I helped every last person on that station. I saved Dr. Igwe, I spared Dhal, I helped Elazaars people at every chance, I avenged Abigail’s murder. I even told Mikhayla the truth about her father, and we ALL escaped the station alive. I put their well being above everyone on Earth. You know why thats fascinating? Because thats exactly how most people respond to that question… Do you switch the tracks and let one person die? Or do nothing, and five people die. EVERYBODY says they’ll save the five people, they say that. We said that, at the beginning of the game. But when we we faced with that decision again, we chose to save the one person, the people of Talos 1 instead. Our true answer was revealed. (Unless of course you were just an asshole when you played lol) This gets meta when you realize that not only is this a personality test for you, the player, but also for the Typhon-Human hybrid you’ve been playing as this whole time. Its already cool as is, but it actually fits the game even better when its revealed to be the WHOLE POINT of the simulation! Not to test your skills, aim, power, but your morality! They used Morgan’s DNA and whatnot and put it into a Tuphon creature via Neuromods and used this sim to test the results. “We spent years putting what you could do into us, it never occurred to us to put what we can do into you.” And what can we humans do that the Typhon can’t? Empathize. Feel the pain of another. Alex makes a point to tell you during a call in the story about how they discovered that the Typhon don’t have mirror neurons, they don’t feel when they kill. They don’t see us. Not the way we can see each other. The Igwe Operator comments about how well your mirror neurons are doing, if you were a monster and let people die, you fail, if you helped people, you pass, meaning the personality sim results show that you are the true bridge between the species, a Typhon that can see us, really SEE us.

3. Why were the supporting characters all turned into Operators at the very end???

Ok. this one… I dunno. Its a big mystery for me. We can infer that Morgan and friends survived and escaped. The destroy ending didn’t happen, as shown by Alex’s appearance. So, why are they all Operators? So they didn’t die aboard Talos 1. I doubt real Morgan killed them or let them die, cuz if your trying to convert a Typhon into a human empathizer, you don’t use the mirror neurons of an asshole who let you die. So, something must’ve happened AFTER the escape. So, lets arrange our pieces.

Alex is alive. Morgan and friends likely escaped. The station was not destroyed. Earth was invaded. (Likely due to the real Morgan not destroying the station and purging all trace of the Typhon, even going as far as to kill everyone. YOU can do that scenario, but the real Morgan did not, apperantly) Morgan and friends escape. Morgan Yu somehow died afterwards. Morgan’s friends died? Morgan’s friends lived on as Operators (Why was Danielle Sho there? She didnt escape?) Alex and Operators use Morgan’s mirror neurons, and a Looking Glass simulation (a much more grand scale illusion, compared to the apartment sim) to test the personality and empathy of the Typhon-Human hybrid. Ok it’s mostly a clear picture now. Pretty easy to deduce how Earth ended up like that. But everybody being Operators is strange… They all used the full names too. When Morgan’s Operators (even tho they had his voice) used month names, January, December, October. So why are those Operators using the full names of those people, and speaking as if they ARE those people???

4. Morgan’s Operators are his shifting personality.

The names January, December, and October are not random. There is a reason for that. A side effect of the extensive Neuromod testing and the apartment sim was a slight but visible personality drift. The longer they kept Morgan in that endless loop, the more he started to change. Something about having alien DNA shot into your brain, and pulled out at the end of the day, rinse, repeat, every day, for weeks, does things to you. In Morgan’s case it made him paranoid, distrustful. It made him fear Alex’s motives, and come up with a plan. Scratch that. Multiple plans. December was intended to be Morgan’s escape plan. He was the earlier model to January, as evidenced by his more robotic and stuttery voice. That Morgan was more fixated on escaping the sim, and the station. However, a couple months later, after some time out of the apartment sim, Morgan, now in a deeper drift in personality, changes his mind, he decides escape isn’t good enough, he must destroy it all, even himself. So he creates January, a newer model with a smoother vocalization, new directives that adapt on the fly, and the order to destroy December before he gives Morgan the option of escaping before destroying the station. The two operators with Morgan’s voice represent his constantly shifting personality and frame of mind during certain points leading up to the events of the game. He even named them after the month he created them in.

Well those are all the big things that came to mind. I still have more questions and I’d love to hear more people weigh in, with either their own questions, theories, and answers! What happened to Danielle Cho? Did she actually escape too? Who was the cook?? What happened to Morgan Yu after the escape??? Till they make a sequel it’s up to us to figure it all out!

i’m the (??) lmao that’s me always but ahdhghdfkshg thank you so much!!!!! i’m so glad you love them, it means the world to me ;-; and listen, that was me, i had no idea how i was going to do it because i’d only seen ts3 stories up to that point and i thought there was like a set Way to tell stories but i had no idea what i was doing so i was like y’know what...i’m just gonna do it how i feel comfortable doing it and i’m gonna figure it out as i go along. so honestly try to roughly plan out what your stor(ies) will entail and if you get stuck on planning and can’t figure it out, just jump right into it, try to make a few scenes or get the ball rolling somehow, even if it’s just random posts (i mean that’s all my blog was until i decided to commit to santi’s story.) it’s always gonna feel weird and awkward at first, but you’ll get comfortable the more you do it and it’ll figure itself out, trust me!

I read through most of your story posts the other day and now I’m rereading it again just to torture myself some more (and maybe catch up on some posts I may have missed). I honestly don’t think I’ve come across a sims story that’s so beautifully written & includes such evocative pictures as yours. I’m really at a loss for words, it’s all so stunning. & after a nearly two-month long creative block, it’s planted the smallest seed of inspiration in the back of my mind, so thank you for your art.

YEAH I DID! omg. i have a LOT of issues with this season (mostly in how badly they tried to retcon nancy and everyone else not caring about barb’s death, how bad the writing was in the realm of nancy and steve breaking up and then her and jonathan getting together...holy fuck it was so uncomfortable with that 40 yr old conspiracy theorist guy i couldn’t even enjoy my ship getting together lmao) also ur right, max and billy honestly did not offer anything to the story...like i loved max too but what was the point...billy acted like their presence and the reason they had to move was so dramatic when it was really nothing...unless they’re saving that for season 3 but like. the whole situation with billy was so anticlimactic. he was like a walmart version of henry from IT. like boohoo ur dad’s an asshole and then he beat up steve. good character arc. i liked max standing up for herself but really...that whole thing was so lackluster, i didn’t care about it at all. ALSO I HATED THAT THEY DIDN’T LET MAX AND ELEVEN BE FRIENDS!! i’m sure it’ll happen in season 3 but like c’mon...that would’ve made the max character feel a little more important to the story. anyway yeah fuck billy and i don’t get why everyone is lusting after him or his actor they’re both ugly! thanks for listening

I was wondering if you were going to mention lou's struggles with being a single mom and the stigma surrounding single motherhood? As a single mother myself I'd really enjoy seeing you take on the issue. Personally, my biggest problem was overcoming the generalizations people put on you when you're a single mom. People always assumed that I that I was stupid and uneducated because I had my son when I was 17.

yes! that will definitely come up. i will focus a lot on her struggles as a single mom. so far i’ve mostly just peppered in some stuff about money troubles, and that will come up again, and the issues you mention will be pretty central to her character as well. i’m sorry you have to endure that, it’s not fair. people don’t even realize how strong and dedicated single mothers are.

you gotta turn bb.moveobjects on and then press alt + 9 when an object is selected to move it upward. so what i did with those poses i made was, i selected a teleporter and pressed alt + 9 until it was at a spot i liked on the roof. that’s why releasing those poses would be tricky, ‘cause every build is different so there’s no set way to place them, you just kinda have to play around with them

do you have any tips for taking good screenshots in game? like how to get the good angles and good quality? i play on ultra but i think when i zoom in and then use the arrows on my keyboard to move around, the pictures gets less clear and looks kinda blurry. how should i do this?

well if you’re already using ultra, there’s not much you can do lmao. sims 4 is just bad with textures in general. it also depends on the objects as well, some are better quality than others. if i zoom in far on a sim’s face, i generally know there will be some pixelation and i can clean that up in photoshop with topaz clean and the smudge tool. i am very reliant on photoshop sometimes lmao. it sounds like you already have the basics of taking good screenshots, it’s just sometimes you have to fight and work with sims 4′s less-than-hd quality.

i searched things like “bonfire” and pasted parts of it that i wanted on the pic to make it look more realistic, then put a layer mask on the pasted pic and erased the edges and stuff to make it blend in better. the sparks and stuff i added by pasting it onto a new layer and changing the blending mode to screen!

hmmmmm well i know the control panel opens when you press shift + f2, and then you check the boxes of the effects you want on them. i haven’t heard of this problem so i dunno what other advice to give i’m sorry :{ if it’s your first time installing it, you might have to wait a little to get it to load up.

for any skin detail or makeup, you have to go into s4s and open the package up, go to one of the tabs (honestly i don’t remember which one because i don’t have it open rn lmao) and you’ll see the different age groups and you check the box for toddler. and then save it of course. (there’s probably a better guide on how to do this somewhere lmao)

i just set mine to ts4′s screenshots folder because it’s what i was used to and it works for me haha. hmmmmmm did you copy the exact address or whatever it’s called of your folder’s location and then paste it into the reshade box? try doing that with another location and see if it works. if anything you can do what i did ‘cause it worked for me

Off Grid Development blog 8.11.2017 - Changing Times!

The times-they-are-a-changin.’ New horizons, a shake up, big things happening - this has been a heck of a sprint!

Blocktober

Completely unaware of our social media surroundings, Rich managed to spend a good portion of this sprint during October whiteboxing and completely miss the whiteboxing trend on Twitter that was #Blocktober! Nothing nearly as fancy as the timelapsed art passes from the Naughtly Dog team on how they constructed key hero sequences in the latest Uncharted, but we do have a new building for the intro scene in the player’s apartment. If you haven’t seen this yet at a demo I won’t give away any spoilers, but this level is where your hacking journey begins!

Indies Unplayed

We were extremely fortunate to be asked along to Indies Unplayed at Secret Weapon Loading Bar in Stratford. It’s always great to show the game and get player feedback. Many thanks to Lauren Francis for having us along, it was a very cool little event and we had some really inspiring titles along side us. Below you can see a player learning the setup to our hero’s story in the intro cutscene we are currently making playable.

We got to play some fun new indie games and catch up with some old friends too, including old chum Tim Constant, who we last saw at Nottingham Gamecity in 2013!!!

Tim is working on a very cool dystopian job sim. It’s a #PapersPlease-like game, where you play an immigrant bouncer in a post-Brexit apocalypse:

‘Settings’ it up

It’s been quite short and quick sprint, so there are no new amazing game features to talk about from Pontus. But as promised, our settings system has now evolved from a bunch of background systems and code into an actual menu. With some actual settings you can adjust!

The graphics will definitely need more work, but the plan is to fill in more options and then do a second pass on the artwork and layout to make sure everything works well with the content. For now, everything is functional at least.

Web work

Apart from that, things were polished up in the web side, with some imrpovements and additions to our wiki and to automate our newsletter. That’s going to make our life easier, and hopefully also help any players/modders to find the right Lua API and instructions for how to set things up in LevelKit in the future. I would say “go and check it out” but there’s not really much interesting things in the wiki yet, at least unless you are one of the lucky ones who have access to our builds and the LevelKit already. In which case, you of course should go and check it out to get you started testing how to create your own content for the game!

No funny bugs fixed by Pontus this sprint, and no interesting game design work either. But there definitely will be next time, he’s already spent the past few days with XMind open for plotting some pretty big changes for the game…

Mod testing

This sprint Josh, our modding and level design intern, challenged himself to build a level using the modding tools. The aim was to learn how to build a typical level with a focus on the Lua scripting side of things rather than art, and then take those learnings and see where he could fill in the gaps on the wiki that he found wanting.

We’ll let him tell you a bit more himself though:

“So I started out by blocking out the map that I wanted to create. Once I had the basic level that I was happy with I got stuck in with the Lua scripting with which I managed to learn a great deal upon completion of the level.

One of my favourite parts of creating the mod was the conversations, as it was super simple to create but also great fun generating branching dialogue between characters. Following this, I began work on a guide to building a level mod which has been added to the wiki.This is something that I felt would be important for potential modders to have to help make the modding experience more accessible.

This also resulted in a few new pages being created to explain some sections not covered on the wiki yet, such as the ability to add characters to your level. This is a very exciting and interesting feature which will allow you to create many gameplay elements, from conversations to patrolling guards.

I also had the pleasure of testing the new ability to upload mods to the steam workshop using the Level-kit tools.

Shortly after that it was decided that we should create a mod level that people can download that would demonstrate some of the pre-made devices that any modder can essentially drag and drop into their own mod. It will also be playable which I will turn into an interactive tutorial of how these devices were made to help new modders create their own from scratch.”

Farewell Harry

Harry had his last sprint with us this month as he is moving to join the development team at Unity, but we made sure he had time to part with a gift for any of our followers who are devs interested in making their games moddable too.

In his time on the team, Harry's done great work pushing modding in Unity 3d, and so we’ve open sourced his work on the Lua framework that makes Off Grid moddable, enjoy!

And with our youngest team member Harry heading to Unity we have gained the wonderful Steve Allen in his place. Steve comes with a bundle of AAA and Indie experience, so much so that he qualifies for ‘industry veteran’ status, and we are pumped to have him aboard the good ship Semaeopus. I’ll stop rambling and let him introduce himself though:

Hello! I’m new here. I’ve joined the Off Grid team as a programmer, though will no doubt stick my nose in elsewhere. I’ve been programming games for, well, rather a long time, and am really excited to be part of the project. There’s lots of interesting stuff that still needs to be done and it’s already been a welcome change from the larger, corporate games I’ve been working on over the last few years. And who knows, next time I write one of these updates I might have done some work! - Steve

You’ll hear a lot more from Steve in the coming sprints, he’s already made good strides into impletmenting and extending new features in the Lua API for modders to play with, so watch this space!

Fixes and additions

Harry’s last couple of weeks were also a great opportunity for us to dig into some of the bugs in our backlog that haven’t been top priority, but would be welcome fixes with a little effort. We had a fantastic flurry of small fixes from the team, with Harry leading the charge.

Main game:

Messaging with CryptoChat

We setup a small notification to say that a character is typeing while you are waiting for them to respond to you in a conversation. It’s essentially a ‘Smedley is typing’ animation much like you’d see when using a messaging app like whatsapp or imessage.

We also and fixed the pause time between messages, which just needed a little finessing to feel more real.

And most importantly, we set up ‘B’ to skip single messages instead of all of the incoming messages from another character.

Include Mods in use, in save games

We now have save games recording what mods you have subsribed to so you can progress with your mods intact!

Saving NFC

NFC data is now being saved correctly.

Trailer video

We fixed a strange long wait at the end of our trailer that had been bugging us.

Player Phone

We fixed a bug to do with interactions when the player phone didn't appear when doing swipe interaction or scanning things.

Stuck Running

We had a somewhat funny but awkward bug in our animation state machine where the player can get stuck if you were crawling and spammed the run button while getting up - the player would get stuck runnning in circles! That is now fixed ;)

Look around you

The player character’s look-at IK needed more restriction on target height so that you didnt look at interesting objects on the floors above or below you.

Invisible walls and soft bathroom sinks

Lots of missing colliders were fixed.

LevelKit:

UV Warning

We updated asset importer post processing script to warn about missing normals and UVs on new models. This means as you are modding and making new geometry, the LevelKit tool will tell you if it is missing anything that could cause a later error.

Mod Content structure

We re-structured level directories so that the content a modder makes is in a neater structure.

Non Steam works / DRM free mod exports

Added Export as Zip option to build tab so that you can upload your mod anywhere for anyone (with a copy of the game) to try it out.

Unpopular opinion: im so done with game of thrones tbh. It's not even good anymore :/ I liked the first season but since then i've skipped through episodes because they are just sooo fucking boring and dragged out!

see like the first three seasons were pretty good because they stayed true to the books. (actually that’s a lie, littlefinger’s chaos speech in the s3 finale was real fuckin bad because guess what: it was original material LMAO) the fourth season was where it started to get messy and then the fifth season was a fucking shitshow because they completely IGNORED the fourth book and cherrypicked all the “good” parts out of it (read: the most action-y parts, while ignoring all the most important pieces of character development) and they botched the dorne storyline, oh and who could forget the iconic moment of throwing in a rape (THAT DIDN’T HAPPEN IN THE BOOKS) just for fun :) love it! but anyway if you think the show is boring i probably wouldn’t recommend the books, they’re even slower getting through them lmao. but it’s worth it in my opinion. there’s so much they don’t include in the show and it makes me Angery

OH YEAH i definitely feel like they’re moving in that direction in the process of revealing jon as the “true” king of westeros and it’s so bad lmfao. the thing is, like...cersei is already mad king 2.0? why do we need another one?????? the entire point of dany’s arc is that she’s constantly trying to deviate AWAY from the way her father ruled, demonstrated by the fact that she freed the slaves (whereas all the targaryens before were slave owners), the fact that she’s not perpetuating the whole incest thing (LMAO GUESS AGAIN BECAUSE JONERYS HAS TO HAPPEN FOR SOME FCKING REASON), the fact that she has dragons which haven’t existed in how many years...like, if she ever ends up being like her father in the books, it’s NOT gonna fucking happen like this. but i don’t think she will anyway, george rr martin has been pretty clear about her trajectory thus far. anyway this show is so ugly, next question

I have panic attacks when I go outside and I wanted to look into alternative stuff since I'm on meds and w/e. I wanted to know if you or friends had any experience or recommendations for buying crystals online like on etsy or amazon. How can you tell if they're real?x

ooooh ok. usually there are shops like those in cities or even in towns with like kitschy little promenades with independent shops. (i know there’s one around the town over from mine, which is so random lmao) i do have friends that have crystals but i think they mostly just collect them for the ~good vibez~ and don’t really look too far into the healing aspects of them. i would say first go with the one that coincides with your birth because those are the ones that are like specifically catered to you and strengthen your being. as for buying online, hmmmmm i mean i don’t really know any specific trustworthy sellers because i don’t have much experience with this, but definitely read the reviews! those will help you a lot <3

i honestly didn’t do much of anything that differs from my usual editing process! i made her eyes a bit bigger by using the clone tool, cloning the top of her eye and applying it a little bit farther up...if that makes sense. it’s hard to explain how to use that tool lmao. and i think i used the liquify tool to bring part of her eyebrow down to look more worried.
