2, its one of those things that i dunno jackshit about the plot, but almost entirely know because my specbio brain latched onto it to find whatever it can

so, the gems are one of very few silicon-lifeforms in media that aren't just flat-out rock people

i mean they are rock people, but you know what I mean

so, the actual body of the gem is encased in a hard crystalline shell, and the humanoid form is just manipulated light

that's why they only die when the core gem is broken, that's where all their organs are

don't ask me how this is possible, i don't wanna think about it

they SEEM to procreate asexually? no gems seem to actually have sexes, the whole woman thing seems to be entirely aesthetic

i don't know what the deal with the bacteriophage looking things are, they seem entirely artificial, but that means that the gem species either invented a better way to create more of themselves, or they just buried new gems in the ground, or something

they seem almost eusocial, with white diamond being MAYBE their progenitor? is she a bultzman brain? an IRMA?

certain gems have different morphs, pearls are servants, diamonds are rulers, lapis lazuli are something, peridots are technical wizzes, rubies are seers, but if i had to guess, these don't actually reflect what type of crystal their shells are composed of, especially considering that, as far as we know, pearls are exclusive to earth animals

maybe they just notice that they look like these rocks and go, "oh hey, that's my name now"
