About Me
Welcome to my E-Portfolio! I'm Tanya, a recent graduate of the Post Graduate Diploma CYCP program at Humber College, and a proud alumna of Carleton University with a degree in Forensic Psychology. With an unwavering commitment to compassion and hard work, I've cultivated a warm approach that I bring to my interactions with children and youth.
My journey into the realm of Child and Youth Care Practitioner (CYCP) was influenced by my experience as a youth justice caseworker and a deep-seated passion for supporting the well-being of young individuals. This dedication is further fueled by my personal connection to a family member on the Autism Spectrum, providing me with unique insights into the impactful work CYCPs undertake. Throughout my academic years, I actively engaged in mental health advocacy, collaborating with the university's school association to organize therapeutic outdoor walks during stressful exam periods, fostering a supportive community for fellow students.
As a newly graduated CYCP, I am excited about stepping into the field and am actively seeking opportunities in clinical and residential programs. My passion lies in creating positive and therapeutic environments for children and youth, and I am particularly drawn to roles that involve working with those who have experienced the Criminal Justice System or have family members currently incarcerated. Beyond my professional pursuits, I find joy in activities like yoga, nature walks, and attending concerts. This transition from academia to professional practice marks the beginning of my journey to contribute meaningfully to the lives of children and youth in clinical and residential settings, where I aim to apply my academic knowledge and genuine passion to make a positive impact.

Residence

So, not only are the cottages possibly haunted, but Humber’s residence may be as well.
The residence itself is new as of 2012, but the buildings it’s built on-top of, aren’t. Before being purchased by Humber, the A/B building operated as the Lakeshore Teachers College, and was purposely designed to resemble a high school, so students aspiring to enter the workforce as  teachers would feel climatized when they get hired into functioning secondary schools.
Not much history is available on the A/B building’s origin, but it’s known that it was built in the early 1950s, and functioned as a teacher’s college until 1975,  from where Humber college purchased the building, after teacher colleges disappeared due to being assimilated into university curriculums, and the students at Lakeshore Teachers College were transferred to York University.
While theres little evidence to suggest the A/B buildings may be inhabited by ghosts, the R building of lakeshore has growing evidence that connects it with the paranormal.
I’ve reached out to a few friends of mine to ask them what they had to say about potential supernatural encounters happening during their stay in residence.
Here’s what Chris Kelterborn, a community and justice services student who resided in residence last school year had to say when asked if he experienced anything supernatural on campus.

Alt text: Hey! No that’s not weird at all ☺️ yeah, I do have a couple stories, definitely the weirdest one though was that I used to constantly hear stomping sounds, almost like someone running, nearly every night without fail, at 3am. Just someone running on the floor above me. And it wasn’t just me, other people on my floor heard it too. But the part that didn’t make any sense was the running would only ever happen at 3am. It was so bizarre, and to this day I don’t have any sort of explanation for it!
Weirdly enough, I  also heard running around above me every morning at 3am when I lived in residence last year, however I always brushed it off as people being drunk assholes. Now, I’m starting to question if there were actually people running around...
It should also be noted that both of these students lived on the third floor of the residence, while I lived on the second, and experienced only a minuscule glimpse into the supernatural happenings within the building.

Finally, a good friend of mine, Katie, gave me a call to tell me about her ghost experiences.
