While sales records for foldable phones have been broken, Samsung will soon lose significant market share.

According to DSCC , although it seems that Samsung will lose a significant amount of its share in the fourth quarter of this year, but the record sales of foldable phones in the third quarter of this year thanks to the release of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip phones. 5 And of course, the increase in competition in the Chinese market has broken.

It is predicted that the sales of folding phones in 2023 will reach 15.6 million units, increasing by 23% compared to 2022.

OnePlus Open: Specs& Price

OnePlus has launched its first-ever folding smartphone which is known as the OnePlus Open.

For those who aren't aware, it is a premium foldable. It belongs in the same category as the likes of Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, Honor Magic V2, Huawei Mate X5, Vivo X Fold 2 and Xiaomi Mix Fold 3, just to name a few.

The foldable is not just a company’s first foldable, to some, due to its similarities in specifications and design with the latest Oppo foldable, the OnePlus Open is viewed as a rebranded Oppo Find N3.

OnePlus Open Display

The inner display of the foldable is a 7,82-inch LPTO 3.0 OLED screen with a 1–120 Hz adaptive refresh rate. The panel has a resolution of 2.440 x 2.268 pixels, which is also known as 2K or QHD+. Other display specs include 426 ppi, 2.800 nits of peak Brightness, and a 1.0758: 1 aspect ratio 

Speaking of cover display, the OnePlus Opeen is powered by a 6,31-inch LPTO 3.0 OLED screen with a 10–120 Hz adaptive refresh rate and resolution of 2.484 x 1116 pixels. Like the primary screen, the cover display can achieve up to 2800nits of peak brightness and also has an aspect ratio of 20:9 and pixel density of 431 ppi. 

Performance

The OnePlus Open runs on one of the most powerful mobile processors on the market right now, which also powers the myriads of flagship and gaming smartphones: Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

 The SoC is coupled with 16 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512 GB of UFS 4.0 storage.

As far as software goes, this foldable comes equipped with OxygenOS 13.2 which is developed based on Android 13. According to the company, the OnePlus Open will get four generations of Android OS and five years of security updates, which simply means that this foldable will still be eligible for the Android 17, just as the OnePlus 11 and OnePlus 11R that arrived this year.

Battery Details

Speaking of battery specifications, the OnePlus Open makes use of the 4.805 mAh dual-cell battery which carries support for 67 watts of rapid wired charging. 

The 67W fast-wired changing technology might not seem as fast as what OnePlus includes in its flagship, semi-flagship and gaming-oriented phones these days, but in the world of foldable phones, it is still a lot and offers high-speed wired charging. 

As reported by the brand itself, the 67W fast charging tech guarantees you to fully charge the OnePlus Open foldable in less than 45 minutes(1–100% in 42 mins).

Cameras

The OnePlus Open features a giant circular camera bump on the rear which accommodates three cameras: 48 MP (Main) Sony LYT-T808 “Pixel Stacked” CMOS + 64 MP OmniVision OV64B + 48 MP (UW) Sony IMX581.

The inner display features a 20 MP camera while the outer display comes with a centred camera cut which is a home for a 32 MP sensor. 

Also, it is worth noting that, with both camera systems you can shoot up to 4K videos at 30 fps. 

Colours & Storage Options

There are only two options of colours you could choose from if you are thinking of getting OnePlus’ first-ever foldable: Voyager Black and Emerald Dusk. 

Availability & Pricing

The OnePlus Open was launched yesterday globally and as of the moment, it is available in Indian, North American & European markets.

In India the 16+512GB OnePlus Open goes for 1,39,999 ₹, the same variant retails at 1699 $ in the US, while in Europe and UK, the same model is priced at 1799 € and 1599 £, respectively.
