Headcanon time: Nyra during personal story
Tumblr media
So I just finished Under Siege (lvl60 personal story for Vigil characters) on my necro Siona (who isn’t canonically in any order, but is a warden captain) after a lot of time without doing said mission and I have thoughts
One of the NPCs actually says “It’s the warmaster! We’re saved!” and in general they place a lot of faith in you. Couple that with what the game says about Forgal, that he’s stern and tough and disciplined, and the fact that Nyra is 19 years old during Siege of Vigil Keep, this comes to mind:
She was trained for military and army and war from an early age so this isn’t her learning, it’s her implementing what she’s learned.
Forgal instilled in her an iron discipline, physical first, and to this day, she’s known for having this amazing discipline and form.
She’s also this insanely ambitious warrior at the time, freshly out of her grandfather’s shadow where she spent most of her early life, suggesting to join all three Orders together cause it just makes sense that they join. She wants a place at history, a chance to join the best and brightest of her people (Ascalonians, humans) and this is her chance to do so.
She’s always had a trait of fanaticism to her (I chose Fanatic’s Pauldrons during CC five years ago for her) so it makes sense that someone that well trained in all things warfare, from fighting to command, would pursue this course of action like a war-hound.  She decides on it and nothing can stop her (turns out, not even death!)
I don’t often write about baby Nyra. She has the traits of a more mature Nyra, but less experience, her motivations are more selfish (she felt stifled by her grandfather who is likewise a strong personality, natural born leader, domineering without any real intent to be so and aware of it. She inherited most of those traits from him, so it makes sense they’d fight a lot and that she’d feel this way.) Yet, her sheltered worldview falls apart as soon as she joins the Vigil. She swore an oath to be a light in the darkness (which she still is) but that means a light to the charr too, and all her life she’s been told charr are evil and enemies. Suddenly she’s working under a charr, has helped in the branded areas with charr sentinels and this image of ALL CHARR ARE EVIL falls apart cause... she actually met the charr.
I headcanon that Forgal also slapped the living daylight out of her when she mentioned something about “charr are (insert bad thing here)” and I don’t think that she ever forgot about it. Forgal was instrumental in her letting go of racism and her upbringing’s prejudices. Naturally, it’s a process, but one that started back then.
It’s also her second big loss, Forgal, a father figure, but this time she’s not getting him back like she got Deborah. Again, a sense of tragedy cause remember, Deborah disappeared and was presumed dead when Nyra was 15 and she would’ve jumped through the Mists to get her back. Same with Forgal.
We joke about how Comm must seem unhinged to pretty much everyone by now, but I think Nyra did so even before all the shit that happened to her. She brings chaos, she knows how to navigate it, she has big ideas and an even bigger determination to make them reality, prepared to do just about anything, so run, hopefully you can outrun a centaur (Nyra and centaurs is a topic for another day) cause a wild Nyra is out
