I kind of wonder is some of Sam and Dean's unwilling affection for Crowley is that he just...see's them as Sam and Dean. Whether they are fighting, reluctant teamates... whatever. To Crowley they are "those denim clad nightmares" or "Moose and Squirrel" not the righteous man not the boy with the demon blood...just them.
