Honestly I'm so tired of people talking about Raiden Shogun like she's some poor uwu little baby, just look at her she's been through so much!!
Whatever she's experienced in the past doesn't excuse her being that cruel to her OWN PEOPLE
Plus, most of those losses people talk about happened 500+ years ago! No, we don't know what happened since then, maybe it was something shitty too, I'm not even saying it didn't happen or something. But, just considering what we currently do know, and what people have been guessing regarding Baal's grief being part of why she closed the nation, I wanna say: IT'S BEEN 500 YEARS! Of course that doesn't mean she has to have stopped grieving, but it certainly isn't an excuse for her now suddenly doing this in Inazuma! (I'm guessing we'll get an explanation as to what caused her to start the vision hunt soon, but I've see far too many people basically use her dead friends as an excuse for that)
I'm so tired of her being treated like she's some poor innocent victim by some people. Having endured losses in the past DOESN'T EXCUSE HER HORRIBLE ACTIONS
I know it's shitty to compare trauma and whatnot, but I'd still like to point out: Zhongli has lived for more than twice as long as her (if I'm informed correctly), has lost PLENTY of people (Guizong, the other Yakshas, it's implied quite a few adepti died over the years,...) And do we so HIM locking up his people, forcibly taking away an integral part of them (Visions)? No!! I'm not trying to say his actions were perfect (far from it) but at least he gave a shit about his people (and yeah, you could argue that Baal does too, in her own sick way, but what she's doing is just plain cruel. At least zhongli was ready to step in and safe the day should his test have gone wrong. He didn't intentionally harm his people, nor did he abandon them. He may be plenty flawed but at least he's not a tyrannical ruler that suppresses his own people.) !
Also, quick note: I don't mind Baal as a character, and am kinda intruiged where this is going and what else we'll see of her. I'm just really tired of people pretending like trauma excuses shitty behavior, and pretending like she hasn't done some terrible, terrible things.
no yeah i'm giving her the benefit of the doubt since we clearly dont know everything that's going on with her, but i rlly hate the uwu image she has. like she's a literal god she isn't innocent\

didn’t realize karfield already answered this. here was my response:
genshin is really a game that tries to showcase human nature. if you think about it (and this is why i liked that one anon's headcanon that zhongli, venti, and baal represent three separate stages of grief), the archons have all gone through Some Shit TM, but all of them deal with it in different ways.
that's not to say that all of them are 'right', and certainly, as anon says, the archons' actions might hurt their people, intentionally or unintentionally.
HOWEVER! i would like to say that objectively, we don't know the reason behind baal's actions, or zhongli's act, or even venti's inaction. we have NO information on baal, so it's much too early for anyone to say that baal is or is not doing things because of her deceased friends.
we don't know why anything is happening. although we have clues, we really aren't able to draw anything conclusive from them, so while we do ofc accept headcanons and theories, here is a friendly reminder to not jump to conclusions too quickly!
