So here’s the kind of prologue of this medieval/fantasy Prince!Yunho x Reader thing i just suddenly had the impulse to write. I’m thinking if i do this, it’ll hopefully be a decently lengthed fic, so for now im just gonna post this and see how people react to it.
It’ll be a kinda slowburn (if a can handle it) angst/fluff fic, and will include the rest of the members of Ateez. So if you do like it, please let me know and ill work on new chapters to post up on this here platform for y’all to enjoy!!

Prince!Yunho x Reader
I raced down the halls of the castle, weaving my way through the familiar brick walls of the placed I’ve always called home. I could feel the air blowing through my hair as I sprinted towards the nearest room in attempts to escape the person close on my heels.
As I rounded the corner into the main hall, I looked around to find the clearest path that led to the stairs, my breathlessness catching the attention of many who were working in the hall. After spying my goal, I quickly began darting through the maids and butlers crossing ahead and around me, before finally reaching the stairs
I began leaping up them three at a time trying to make some more distance between myself and my pursuer. I could feel my legs begin to scream at the effort I was exerting, but I ignored it in favour of swiftly making it to the top of the tower and quickly shutting myself in the nearest room; which, to my dismay, just so happened to be the only room in the tower.
I glanced around the room panicked, looking for somewhere to hide myself before the one who was following me could find me. I spotted a large wardrobe tucked in the back corner of the room, so I rushed over and practically threw myself into it before shutting the doors in front of me.
I had begun to catch my breath when I suddenly heard the door to the room swing open; thankfully the hinges were a little squeaky. I held my breath as I heard the footfalls of my chaser slowly enter the bedroom. I knew they were surveying the room, looking for where I was, and I could only hope that they would be dumb enough to not check the giant and obvious hiding spot that was the dresser I found myself in.
I closed my eyes as I heard the footsteps quietly approach my hiding spot. I prepared myself for the swinging open of the wardrobe doors and the loud yelling that would follow, but nothing like that came. The footsteps slowly went away, becoming quieter and quieter as they went further away. I waited another couple minutes before letting out a heavy sigh, and lightly pushed the door open slightly. When all of a sudden both doors swung wide open and I was dragged into a crushing hold before being pulled completely from the closet.
“Ha ha ha! I found you! I win!” The pair of arms yelled as they swung me around in a circle over and over again. I felt like a rag doll in the hands on some insane toddler! Ridiculous! If someone saw that this was how the prince treated his own bodyguard, you’d be out of a job! I struggled in his grasp before reaching behind me and pinching his side, forcing him to let me go and making his burst into a fit of giggles.
“Now come on (Y/N), that’s not fair. You know I’m ticklish!”
“I am very aware, your highness. Which is exactly why I did it.” You began to lightly dust yourself off as you watched the prince recover from your attack and walk over to the bed across the room and flop backwards onto it. He patted the spot next to him, inviting you to come sit, which you willingly obliged. You sat yourself down on the edge of the bed and leaned yourself against the post at the foot of the bed, crossing one of your legs then tucking it under the other which was dangling off the side of the mattress.
“You know you can call me Yunho right? Even if you’re my bodyguard, we have been together since we were born. We even have the same birthday!” You glanced at him as he stared at you from his spot on the bed. You slowly leaned towards him, raising an eyebrow at the small smile he had on his faced, before firmly flicking him on the forehead.
“Ow! What was that for?” Yunho cried out as he rubbed his hand on his sore forehead, checking occasionally to make sure there was no blood spewing from where you had hit him. You simply giggled at his reaction, it was always fun to watch his dramatics.
After ensuring that he was not in fact going to die from a head wound, Yunho sat himself up on the bed and turning so he could scoot back and lean against the baseboard of the bed next the you. He pressed his shoulder against yours then began fiddling with your fingers, closely inspecting your nails, rings, and the handful of scars that littered the backs of your hands and palms from combat practice.
“You know you’re my best friend right? You’re not just a bodyguard to me I hope you know that.” Yunho spoke softly as he gently held your hand in his, looking at you almost like a puppy waiting for their owner to address them. You relaxed against him and let out a breath you didn’t realize you had been holding in.
“I know, you’re my best friend too. But you must remember Yunho, you’re also the prince of Dirus and next in line to the throne, and I am responsible for keeping you safe.” You sat up and turned towards him as you spoke, keeping your hands together, you looked him in the eyes to make sure he not only knew, but understood what you were saying, and where you were coming from.
“I know that. But we’re still kids! We’re 14 years old, and I still have years before I become king! We need to have fun together before we don’t have the time to, right?” He stared at you as you spoke, his gaze was so intense it felt like he was trying to read your mind. And it felt like he could.
You slumped your shoulders at his reply and turned your head away from him, unsure of how to respond.
Yunho instantly noticed you change in demeanor and somewhat regretted pressing the issue that was already an often discussed issue between to two of you.
“Okay okay, changing the subject now… Uhh… (Y/N) tell me again about the tattoos on your wrists? They look like they’ve spread since the last time I saw them.” Yunho pushed up the sleeves of your loose shirt to expose more of your arms, revealing the curling and spiraling black and red tattoos that started from where your hands connected to your wrists, and were slowly climbing their way up.
“I’ve told you about what these are already though?”
“Yes I know, but tell me again! I find it really interesting.” He looked at you with the begging look that he knew you could never say no to. You rolled your eyes at him before letting your lips curl into a smile.
“Fine.” you sighed. “Its common knowledge that I am a bloodbourne, a rare species of human that can take on the special traits on individual whose DNA I consume. Along with these abilities, bloodbournes also develop these tattoos that once they reach maturity, will completely cover their arms, back, and chest.” Yunho stared at you in awe, as if he hadn’t already heard this explanation before.
“The reason for these tattoos is for when we use a very special ability that is completely unique to bloodbournes. Not only can we take on the special abilities of others, we can also heal any wounds they have by reciting a special incantation.” You went to run your hands over your tattoos, finding that they were becoming almost itchy, when you noticed that Yunho was already rubbing his fingertips along them unconsciously. You were immediately relieved. You hated thinking about what happened when bloodbournes used that incantation, especially when it was the reason your own parents were dead.
“By reciting that incantation, a bloodbourne can heal the cells in a victims wound, at the expense of their own. Our cells die to revive those of the victim, and the tattoos ensure that by burning into our bodies. My mother told me once that it is the mostly noble and selfless power anyone could ever possess.” Yunho was still staring at you as you finished your explanation, his mouth wide open. Was he seriously trying to catch flies?
He snapped back to reality and quickly shut his mouth.
“Can you do that?”
You looked at him as you spun a piece of your hair between your fingers.
“Not really. I only came into my powers last year. The most I can really do is heal a papercut, and that doesn’t hurt at all. When I reach maturity and all of my tattoos have formed I’ll be able to however.”
Yunho was still dragging his fingers along your wrists, analyzing each twist and turn they took as he stared. He kept brushing over spots that were very ticklish, but wasn’t letting you pull away. He laced your fingers together as he brought your right hand up to his face for closer inspection. The gesture made you flush a bright red before tugging your hand away and crossing your arms across your chest, earning a confused look from the young prince.
“Will you let me see them when that day comes?” He asked you innocently as if he hadn’t just been holding your hand so close to his face that you could feel his breath.
“When what day comes?”
“When you reach maturity and all your tattoos have formed. I want to see them then.”
“Not if you keep frisking me like that your highness. I might just have to go to your father and complain about harassment in the workplace!” The look on Yunho’s face as you told him that was priceless. He looked so concerned! He probably thought that you were actually going to do it.
“Okay! I’m sorry! I won’t do it anymore! But please let me see all your tattoos one day (Y/N)! I think they’re so pretty how they wrap and tangle with it each other. It so cool!” Yunho had bounced himself back onto the bed and threw himself into a bow at your feet.
“I reach maturity in 7 years. Are you serious willing to wait that long just to see some tattoos?”
“Well, you’re my bodyguard. We were born together, and you are meant to die by my side. We’re stuck together until one of us meets our end, so seven years is nothing since we’re together forever right?”
Sadly, those seven years are what made all the difference.
