#fanfic: Blazin' Trails Redux

I'm getting around to finishing those WIPs I started in September and one of them was one of my buddy's original characters, Salvador. He's the son of my OC, Spike, who's the second in command of Red Scorpion, and a fearsome outlaw in his own right. What sets him and his father apart is his moral compass, which his father tried to destroy multiple times. Following a harrowing betrayal and escape from the law, Sal ends up being in the company of Roxanne Falconeri-Rabbit, who was assigned to capture him. Through a string of incidents, he's let off the hook and assigned to be Roxanne's deputy. And slowly but surely, something starts building between them 😉

Drawing Sal was a fun challenge. Aside from Wally Gator, MAYBE Godzilla, and the dinosaurs from the Herculoids, Hanna-Barbera doesn't have a lot of reptilians im their library, so I had to look up different types of lizards. And then when I drew him, I got the WRONG ONE (for context, he was supposed to be a Texas horned lizard, but I ended up using the Australian thorny devil), and by that point I put in so much work I didn't want to redraw him. So I combined it. And then I went nuts doing the scales 🤣 The only real issue was doing his scale color. I had the right markers, but they kept running out except for my illustration pen. So I did my best to use my dying markers and then blend it in using my illustration pen. And it resulted in a two tone color that looks ABSOLUTELY STUNNING 😍

Not sure what my next Blazin' Trails art will be, but just know it'll be on the same quality as this one 😉

Happy 6th Anniversary, Blazin’ Trails!

A little doodle of my boys Ricochet Rabbit and Droop-a-Long Coyote in celebration of Blazin’ Trails’ 6th anniversary. I’ve drawn Ricky and Droopy so many times for so many years, it was easy work. And yes, this references on of my other pics where Droopy does the bunny ears behind Ric’s head. He’ll get chewed out for it, but it’ll be worth it. XD But yeah. It didn’t occur to me that yesterday marked the story’s 6th anniversary until I looked at the date!

As I noted on my profile, if someone had told me a few years ago that I’d be working on content for Ricochet and Droop-a-Long this long, I might’ve called them crazy. This series originally started as a one-shot that started with the idea, “What if Ricochet and Droop-a-Long actually were good friends?” The ideas just wouldn’t stop from there, and I had to keep writing. The result: an anthology that held my brain for about two years, developing an obsession with Westerns that led to me discovering Gunsmoke and other great shows, and eventually dragging my good friend @blazing-shadows into the colorful mix that is the Hanna-Barbera fandom (because when we weren’t talking about Fiery Heart, Broken Soul, or DKC, or Star Fox or Mario things, I was constantly hammering out H-B content, haha ^^’’)! Even my brother was into it for a while!

While this series has been a wild ride, with so many things being added and changed, I wouldn’t change a single bit of it. This story is probably right up there with Super Readers’ Biggest Adventure and Hugs and Kisses as one of my favorite fanfics of all time. To read the comments on the story and to hear that the character development that I’ve given Ricochet and Droop is one of the highlights of the story fills me with such incredible joy and warms my heart. It really inspires me to both develop them further, and to continue developing more characters within the Hanna-Barbera fandom, such as Touché Turtle and Dum-Dum (as seen in For Love and Glory Relance).

This got kinda long and winded, but I guess what I’m trying to say is, I’m happy with how things are with this series, even in its disorganized state. And I’m excited to work on Redux, even though it won’t be out until August XD

Thank you all so much for enjoying this story of mine, and thanks to my buddy for creating both timelines and original characters—as well as sticking with me through this hyper fixation of mine, haha. You all rock!
