The one thing I wanna add, now or earlier in Ultima Thule, is Meteion rejecting Nemi's offers of alternate emotions of a range closer to happiness.

The Dead Ends explained why Meteion was so overwhelmed, what thought processes flooded her mind and left space for nothing. One part of her remained in Pandora's box, but it wasn't only the bird from back then that she cared about.

It seemed for a second Nemi readied a deadly spin. Finally Zenos thrilled in delight at this lowerment of defenses, but
Endsinger's eyes widened in shock, since Nemi finally touched her forehead gently. The collective realized she had sharp claws she lays ever so gently, a touch they couldn't remember. The black birds scatter disolving in mourning of the gentleness they never knew, and Meteion is left kneeling with Nemi's thumbs gently holding her cheeks. With the remembrance of Hermes and the flow of memories, one song floats in the air, colors and visions of joy and pain and sun and love and burst and death and rebirth flood as she attunes to Nemi's share, clinging to her more and more with clean tears.
