[Image ID: Two images, identical except the first is in colour, the other black and white outline with only blood in red. Anton Fennec, middle-aged with greying brown hair, brown eyes and round glasses. His left eye is bruised, a dark purple, and he's bleeding from the nose. The blood is smudged around his mouth, agape, and onto his open-collared blue shirt. End ID.]
look at the full sized image for better quality- I wish tumblr would fix that

Wardrobe Post 2023 Part 1: OPs
Tumblr media
Mary Magdalene - Tarte Tatin OP - "Classic Beige"
A new purchase, but I'm already in love. I'm hoping I can get the other colourways!
Tumblr media
Mary Magdalene - Carlotta OP - "Shell Pink"*
This one was a rescue (yes, it's the WW carlotta) I got for cheap from a pal! It had horrific dye bleed/fading and was missing its bow and neck ties. I decided to dye it red to mimic the Strawberry colourway, and it came out to be basically a perfect match! I used the original waist ties to add gussets to the sides, and then I found some cotton sateen to dye up and used that to replace the neck ties and bow. Im working on replacement waist ties, but haven't finished yet. It's become one of my favourite dresses!

Mary Magdalene - Fleur Antionette OP - "Iris"
This one's another rescue-- when I got it it was stained and altered. I redid the gussets, added lining, and got the stains out. Currently working on replacing the bows!
Tumblr media
Victorian Maiden - Chiffon Doll OP - Brown
I got this one at a swap meet and am obsessed with it! The bodice is cotton, so it's very breathable and comfortable, and it's great layered over sweaters and blouses!

Baby the Stars Shine Bright - Sugar Bouquet Shirring OP (2005) - White
One of my favourites! I'm mostly into classic lately, but old school sweet has a place in my heart. I actually prefer this version to the 2023 version-- there's a drawstring in the neckline that makes the shoulder measurement somewhat adjustable to prevent bust gapping. It is a little shorter, though, so bloomers are a must for me!

Baby the Stars Shine Bright - Sugar Bouquet Shirring OP (2023) - "Antique Blue"
The modern edition! I was lucky enough to get this through the preorder lottery-- I kind of regret not getting the ichigo mousse colourway as well. The cut is very comfortable, with lots of stretch, and its long enough to hit at the knee for me. It does have a lot more poof than the 2005 edition, though, and requires multiple petticoats for me.

Alice and the Pirates - Toi et Moi OP - Black x Bordeaux
One of my few remaining polyester dresses! It's actually a cotton-poly blend, and the weave is very breathable, especially since the lining is cotton. It's quite long, too, so very nice for taller people. I really love violet prints, so I couldn't bring myself to let this one go.

Alice and the Pirates - Princess Serenity OP - White (one colour)
This was a dream dress that I actually managed to get BNWT for retail price! It hadn't even been taken out of the original plastic. It's very detailed and lovely, there's several layers of fabric and lots of gold embroidery. It's a little too fancy and rare to wear out often, but I am happy to own it as a sailor moon fan.

May 17th was a very big day for me....
I bought my very own first car!!!!
And what a bittersweet experience it was...
I have absolutely loved driving my lil' Maizie around. I still remember the day I came home from a school dance and found her waiting for me in the driveway. I'd been driving an old Cadillac Cetara, and it was in bad shape. I had to switch cars with my parents for the day, so I had room to drive all my friends to the dance. I warned my dad that if he drove my car, he needed to be sure to correct the steering wheel to the left every time he hit the brakes, because it always swerved right. Apparently, he'd had enough of that car at that point, because he used his Saturday to go trade it in for a beautiful little Mazda 3. I remember thinking there was NO WAY my dad had gotten me such a nice car. I thought it was the most perfect car I'd every seen, especially coming from the Catera. I found out it was a stick shift, which originally presented some challenges for me, but I grew to love it and now I'm so grateful for that skill.
She was honestly just the best, and she fit me so perfectly.
I wanted to drive her forever.
But she was getting really tired. Things started breaking and falling apart. My mirror fell off. The paint was chipping. The tire alignment wouldn't stay straight. And then the air conditioning went out. I was trying to be patient, but once it started getting so hot that I couldn't make it 3 minutes without dying of heat stroke, I knew something had to change. And when I found out that the cost to repair her A/C was nearly $2,000, I thought it was just too much. Time for a change.
Looking for a car was stressful. I really had no idea what I wanted. I wanted it to be white, have heated seats, and be newish/have low miles, but that was really it. I had no preference of brand or type or anything. The first time we went to look at the dealership was a bad experience. I drove a few cars, but nothing hit me as being perfectly right. They were all just fine. Plus, the salesman made a bunch of promises that he couldn't keep and everything felt shady. I left feeling very discouraged.
The next weekend, I went and looked at the SouthTowne Volkswagen dealership, because Aubrey drives a Jetta and I've always liked driving it around. I ended up test-driving a Passat, which is essentially just a bigger version of the Jetta, and I fell in love with it! That was the feeling I wanted from the beginning! And I knew it was the car for me.
After I had decided what kind of car I wanted, it was time to start searching for the best deal. I ended up with two choices:
1- A 2017 Passat with a white exterior and tan leather interior (my favorite color scheme) for about $16,000 and with 13,000 miles.
2- A 2018 Passat with a white exterior and a black cloth interior (I like the black but preferred leather) for about $18,000 with 5,000 miles.
My plan was to go look at both of them with Brady, and then once I decided for sure which one I wanted to get, I'd take my dad with me to go through the buying process.
Things didn't exactly go to plan.
Dad called Friday afternoon and wanted to go look at the cars. I told him my original plan, but he said he was ok with going more than one place, and that we should just come meet him in SLC. We drove down to meet him, and while we were driving, he found a third option that he was thrilled about.
It was a 2018 Passat with a white exterior and gray leather interior, for about $16,000, with 25 miles!!!! It was literally a brand new car. Never owned. The reason it was so discounted was because it has a branded title. That made me super nervous, but Dad said he was already there looking at it and it was perfect. So I decided it was at least worth a look.
When we got there, we learned that the only reason it had a branded title was because it was through some extreme rain at a dealership in the mid-west, and the dealership's insurance had replaced all of the new cars as a result. So this new dealership bought it as a branded car, went through and did a full inspection, and didn't have to replace even one part. There was a little bit of rust on the inside metal car guide pieces that weren't stainless steel, but other than that, it was in perfect condition.
So the decision really came down to, for the same price, either choosing older, more miles and right color, or brand new, never owned, wrong color. I decided to cut my losses and take the brand new one!
So it's official!!! I own a Passat! Buying it was stressful, and watching the money disappear from my account was even worse. But I own a Passat!!!!
Her name is Posie. And she's adorable.
I said a heartfelt goodbye to my lil Maizie girl, and then drove off in my fancy new car. It was exciting, and so far, I'm loving it. I miss driving stick in a way, because it's like the end of an era. But while I sit in traffic on my way home from work, and don't have to constantly push in the clutch, and have working A/C? It feels like a good choice.
Big things are happening over here, people. Real big things!
