Perenna experienced a fair amount of trauma growing up, due to herself and her mother experiencing abuse at the hand of her father. After her father landed in prison for said abuse, Perenna and her mother moved from Louisiana to Georgia, where she spent the remainder of her childhood and beginning of adulthood. While walking home alone one night as a teenager, a dark van pulled up beside her before a figure jumped out, holding a cloth to her mouth and nose before the lights went out. In and out of consciousness, Perenna couldn’t stay above for more than a few moments before darkness enveloped her once more. While she was under, scientists ran experiments on her, altered her DNA, and her cells were supercharged, turning her into a meta-human and giving her access to a multitude of powers.

While nobody knows why she gained the abilities that she did, though Perenna is convinced that it is due to the trauma she keeps locked away. She became telepathic, honing her skills through the years to branch out further. She not only can read minds, but she can easily bring others into a mental landscape, allowing her and the people she brings in with to manipulate their surroundings at will. She is also greatly empathetic, reading other’s emotions and sensing pain they may be enduring. By sheer mistake, Perenna found that she can induce mental pain inside other’s minds and manipulate other’s memories, searching memories in order to obtain information. She’s honed her skill of psychic illusion, projecting realistic illusions in other’s minds and enable them to experience and/or feel things that aren’t actually real. Finally, she is able to sense when other minds are around her, including their mental states, emotions, and intensions using her mental detection.

Despite the trauma she kept locked away, Perenna excelled in school, receiving her doctorate in clinical psychology by the time she was 25. While all of her abilities can easily be used to manipulate and take advantage of others, Perenna took a solemn oath to do no harm with her abilities when she became a therapist, practicing for 5 years in Freeland before feeling a call to pick up her life and move away from the city she knew so well.

After having her fill of life in the south, Perenna felt a call to move elsewhere after aiding Jennifer Pierce and her family in Freeland, GA. She realized that she could do a great amount of good in aiding other heroes and vigilantes, and after some digging, realized Central City seemed to be a hub for many heroes, alien, human, and metahuman alike. She packed her few belongings and moved to Central City, having great hope that she could do some good for the heroes and vigilantes that save the citizens day in and day out.
