it’s actually extremely annoying how some people still believe that arata is an obstacle to taichi. even when taichi used to think arata was “in the way” as his romantic and karuta rival, he knew that mindset was toxic and he’s been trying time and time again to destruct that way of thinking. a major part of taichi’s storyline is learning that it isn’t so much as others who are hindering him, but he himself is limiting how he can grow. it’s actually been so long since he’s thought of arata as some hardship he has to overcome. at his match with harada sensei, taichi admitted he simply wanted to go to the place where arata and chihaya are. and even during the meijin qualifier match with arata, while he may have considered arata a “stepping stone” to becoming meijin, we see mostly that he wants to be acknowledged as a worthy opponent to arata: something he has been seeking since early childhood. and now, during this meijin match, taichi is fully supporting and praying for arata to win. arata and taichi have both recognized that neither of them are a hinderance to each other. these two will always be rivals battling each other in the karuta world, but to assume that taichi continues to see arata as someone that needs to be eliminated instead of someone he should learn from and grow with is blatantly ignoring the meaning of his character arc :/
