Tomorrow is the day!
I’m so excited, I hope everything goes well and I am not too stupid to enter the right train. I reeeally hope I can spend a nice holiday with my friend in her surroundings.
Please, god, let this go smoothly and work out well. Don’t let me forget stuff at home that I need or board the wrong train or something. Just...let me have this. Please.
I also talked today to my mother. She confirmed that my parents don’t really talk to me anymore because “they want to give me emotional independence.” How weird that they just cared after we had a gigantic fight at Silvester. Oh well, it doesn’t matter. I’m better off semi-alone anyways.
I wonder why it is so much fun to talk to myself though, and my mothers statement only made me think about it more. Maybe because I have always been a lonely person and going solo? When I came to the country I live in now, I almost didn’t know the language and the kids kept laughing at me for that. I learned almost all of the language I know now from books, television and videogames. That would also explain why I am more comfortable in the fictional world than the real world, i guess?
Well, no use pondering over it now, and pitying myself never solved anything. I should be happy! Tomorrow I get to see my online friend! It’s gonna be great. I hope I don’t annoy her too much with my weirdness. I know I can be a bit annoying at times.
Maybe I can surprise her and invite her to something to eat? After all, she will go through all the trouble to welcome me.
On another note, It’s also the first time I booked a hotel. I’m...not good with new things or changes. It makes me sick to the stomach, as brutal as it may sound. Hope everything works out alright.
Do I have something a bit more uplifting to think about...? Well, it is the big day tomorrow, so I assume it’s only natural that my thoughts spin like a carusel around that.
Oh, right! I went drinking boba-tea today. It’s a new hobby of mine. I always get myself a creme brûlee tea and sit down to watch people, and today also the rain. It’s been pouring these last few days. Anyways, I never manage to eat all the boba though. I don’t know if my technique is wrong or if I’m just clumsy, but I always feel awful to throw half of the boba away, because I can’t drink it properly. How do people do that?
Very yummy though. Totally worth it.
I started with my friend a soulsilver soullocke...we already lost a few of our members to Bugsy. That Scyther sure can pack a punch. Or a slice, considering its arms. I am already scared of Whitney and her mighty Miltank...
Holy shit it is windy today. The traffic lights are swaying, just like the trees. I love wind, it’s like a friend, but when I see how it forces its way through the landscape it does get a bit scary.
(...)
The woman who helps me clean my room (it sounds more boojie than it is, believe me, I’m just chronically ill and need a lot of help) just came by to wish me a good trip tomorrow. That was very nice of her.
I want to do more things by myself, it’s always embarrassing, when other people have to help you with basic stuff that other people manage easily, but...I have problems with my motivation. Sometimes I wonder if I have a slight case of ADHD. Maybe I’m just a lazy bum, who knows. The will is there, just...my body won’t move. I have two wolves in my chest...
Talking about wolves, my friend always teases me that I’m a furry. But liking Kemonomimis isn’t furry, right?! It’s just ears and tails? I still like a human...though, when I think about how Mia x Elk was my first ship...well, I guess low key furry. Ever-so-slightly. Like, you have to use a microscope to see it. A tiny furry hair on my clothes.
Maybe I’m writing too much. But it keeps me relaxed while I wait to the day to end. Damn, it’s still 15:00. I could do something else...
But my heart is jumping out of my chest, and I have shivers. Maybe just a little more...?
In another post, maybe, this one’s long enough.

“don’t get your hopes up too high”: An Exhaustively Curated 2018 Playlist
So, since time immemorial I have been putting together year-end playlists and for a long time they were pretty sloppy affairs overall. Last year, I decided to make up some kind of formula for putting these playlists together. Basically what it comes down to is, from every new album I listen to, released in the given year, I pick one song. No repeating artists because that gets to be too much (although featured acts aren’t subject to this rule). When deciding what releases are going to get my attention, aside from my own personal tastes (skews toward alt. rock and punk a lot of the time) and releases from longtime favorites (this year we saw releases from Metric, and Animal Collective, as well as a long-awaited A Perfect Circle album, and even a Spotify single from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs), I try to get give more of my time to queer artists (and this year there were TONS of queer acts releasing great music--Adult Mom, Laura Jane Grace & the Devouring Mothers, Janelle Monae, Snail Mail, SOPHIE, etc. etc. etc. hallelujah). I also try to make an effort broaden my musical worldview by making time for artists that operate within genres I don’t always naturally gravitate towards. This was a great year to get back into hip-hop (Rico Nasty, Cardi B, Tierra Whack, Black Panther OST) after not really vibing with some of the directions it has taken in the past ten or so years. I have also tried to include a track by every band I saw in 2018, providing they actually released something in 2018 and it is available on Spotify (strong apologies to Partner, Bully, Shellshagg, Kimya Dawson, Rozwell Kid, Los Campesinos, the incomparable Liz Phair, and the legendary Fleetwood Mac--y’all didn’t release anything this year). I give myself until the end of January of the following year to finalize my expansive, year-end playlist, and here we are. This years playlist is over 15 hours long--almost long enough to put on while you’re doing all that laundry you've been putting off. I hope you enjoy.

oh dang there’s a lot of music in the world of 2017 MUSIC
more music and shit from 2017 and also music that’s not from 2017 that i’ve listened to in 2017.
information flash - ego murda sound: i'm dancing my ass off to this! instant club BANGERS!!! maybe not but it's super rad house/breakbeat/jungle!? music. "early in the mornin" is my favorite and i suspect it will be many people's. a combination i couldn't have anticipated that works really well. rym says this is "outsider house" which is characterized by its "grittiness" and "lofiness" which is why i listened to this in the first place. but this sounds crisp & great? maybe it's not as immediate as the forebears of its genre but that makes me like it even more. A MINUS MINUS
omar rodriguez-lopez - roman lips: today, my coworker called me "my boy" and that's how this album makes me feel.
tangible rays - seance: hey RAD these guys are from youngstown! this is nice shoegaze that feels a lil lofi on the production spectrum, which is IMO the best way to do it. "everythings" is my favorite. has a real cocteau twins thing going and reminds me of rain on playground equipment and falling in a ditch. "pinkish" is beautiful and reminds me of those sad james iha smashing pumpkins songs. i like that there's one person playing spacey stuff and one person just playin RIFFS. too much shoegaze feels like a wash of reverbed bullshit and this has an immediacy i dig. doesn't reinvent the wheel but it polishes the wheel and god damn what a beautiful wheel. A MINUS MINUS.
W - winterwomb: a song called "hel!" only two songs shorter than ten minutes!! HURRAH BOYS! it's the first black metal album of the year for me!!!! ! i don't know shit about this genre. i do know that i like bands like panopticon and heimdall's wacht because they have emotional amazing riffs and this album, idk. "northtraversing" has a nice emotional cold part i like where the bass drum is hitting every quarter note of the measure in a really propulsive kinda thing. this definitely pushes the atmospheric angle and that ain't my favorite style of BM but this was an enjoyable listen overall. the keyboards add a lot to it. A MINUS PLUS?
vacation - portalet: fuck i love vacation. so much that i've missed seeing them like twice, in addition to black planet! i see them called pop-punk a lot, but they've always felt much more jarring and gnarly to me. this one starts off a little more melancholy and i like it. there's some toy keyboard oscillating the entire time in the first song and it kinda makes this song happen for me. a lot of songs will prove to use this kind of thing! IT'S A COMPILATION. moods all over the place and insanely likeable melodies abound. my favorite thing by them, i think, because there’s so much here in one place. it's super long but you wouldn't even know because it shifts its style & mood a bunch! i read somewhere that they love hickey & guided by voices and in sound, ethos, and melody this is readily apparent. which see, it is the shit.
the molochs - america's velvet glory: NIGHTMARE OF MOLOCH! MOLOCH THE LOVELESS! MENTAL MOLOCH! MY BLOODY LOVELESS MOLOCH TIME! this is garage rock and i die inside every time i see the band i'm about to listen to is garage rock because i hate that genre. but! this is pretty good! charlie's lips has a soaring wonderful part that sounds like "she's so high". the singer has a reedy kinda flat voice that goes along nice with it. "little stars" has a cool guitar part. but a lot of the rest of this sounds exactly like music that's existed for 900 years and it's hard to pay attention after a while, however well-played it may be. AM INUS IMUS
booji boys - s/t: boy i fucking love devo. nothing really compares, does it? AND they're not far from my neck of the woods (this is important to me for some reason). this doesn't sound anything like devo even though they jacked the name from em. this is sloppy speedy punk with a chirpy vocalist that sounds underwater (??). the mood is pretty uniform and that mood is DO YOU LIKE ROCK MUSIC. some fantastic riffs happen in this LP. i hope they come to CLE so i can see them live.
the koreatown oddity - finna be past tense: this is INSANE. reminds me of clipping., young fathers, and that one whatever the fuck it was called, animals eat food or whatever. they have a song called "fuck dinosaurs." overall very aggressive and spacey and noisy with a lot of energy behind it. the samples feel kinda muted and relegated to the backburner in the mix sometimes and i dig it. i don't know that the fuck i'm talking about.
half japanese - hear the lions roar: i love half japanese but everyone i know doesn't seem to give a shit about them. the guy said the funniest thing about guitar though! he said "the only chord I know is the one that plugs my guitar into my amp." HA. apparently not because there's lots of chordal action going on all over these damn songs. has jad fair's pipey squeaky vocals that always do it for me. the first song feels like the kinks. feels "traditional" at times, but tracks like "attack of the giant leeches" and "do it now" feel more like the half japanese i've grown to grow up with and love. don't say "more mature"... don't say "more mature..." don't-- it's a more mature sounding rendition of their sound. DAMN IT.
pink guy - pink season: yeah i'm not gonna listen to this. fuck that piss.
