Tuvok and Neelix are both just guys who can’t read a room for the life of them and respond to that in two completely opposing ways.

#Tuvok doesn't really try to get into social situations bc he doesn't really thrive within them and thus doesn't seek them out #meanwhile Neelix gets into every social situation he can bc he IS going to be your friend and that's the way he's learned how to endear #himself to others - just being around always and talking frequently #and they clash frequently because of that #I think they could have become much better friends in canon... #a friendship with a lot of learning and misunderstandings #bc while Neelix can be annoying Tuvok can also be needlessly standoffish/mean #and that COULD HAVE BEEN A GOOD ARC!!! Of them learning how to talk to each other and coming to appreciate one another for the people #they are over time!! #I truly do believe that a lot of ppl view Neelix as more annoying than he actually is bc the other characters on voyager usually treat him #as being annoying when he's being exuberant or eager or w/e #Neelix would be eager to learn about Tuvok! and Vulcans! He's never seen a Vulcan before - he doesn't know about their culture or anything #like that! Episode where Neelix tries to learn more about that stuff but Tuvok is being #condescending and easily annoyed while teaching him and they get into a fight about it like: I'm TRYING to learn but it's like you've #already given up on me! And Tuvok apologizes after a bit and they talk about his experiences in the academy and with humans generally - how #he's learned to expect disrespect and self-centeredness when it comes to Vulcan and himself #and Neelix says he's sorry that happened but he truly didn't mean to be disrespectful - he'd never want that! He's never #encountered a Vulcan before - the culture is so different from Talaxia's..he doesn't know what to do and what not to! And Tuvok says he'd #like the opportunity to try and teach him more again. If that would be acceptable? #Neelix: -making his face all serious- More than acceptable. -smiles- Was that good? #Tuvok: We will work on it. / Neelix: Was that a JOKE~? #Neelix also ends up telling Tuvok more about talaxia and his family and stuff and they bond over the fact that they've #both lost like...their entire family. #I want Tuvok to have more tender/emotional moments with Neelix bc Neelix is the most emotional person he knows. #I have a lot of thoughts on the squandered Tuvok&Neelix friendship #which also translate to the Tuvok/Neelix ship but not necessarily. #Neelix is like - if we're giving out forgiveness for being rude about Vulcans he's THE guy bc he's literally NEVER met one unlike humans #and I love Tuvok bc he's the most Vulcan Vulcan...he's just //A// Vulcan he's just some guy.
