Thinking about that Dave Miller with a pet rat thing I doodled a year ago and now I've gotten a fic idea where Dave gets a rat from the store and two weeks later has 15 rats and now he needs to get rid of 12 baby rats and has no idea what to do or how to take care of them and starts relapsing into "frenzied new dad" mode

He thinks he's doing something wrong when one of the rats (they need to come in pairs or they get lonely) starts being aggressive and taking all the food but he can't get her to cooperate. and like a week after bringing her home she starts showing but this idiot is like "huh ok why does she look like that? The other one is fine so it's not the food right?"

But instead of calling a vet or the pet store or whatever he just gives her stuff to nest with since she likes that now apparently and then he falls asleep on the couch after work one morning and when he gets up he hears tiny squeaks and goes "Ohhhh she was having babies. Oh no. She was having babies" And oh look he snaps right back into "frenzied new dad" mode as if that's not a rodent with the instincts to take care of her pups on her own.

He ends up selling the rat pups to either his coworkers or puts up a flyer or something and one of his fellow guards is genuinely surprised the grouchy loner could actually care about an animal like that. Dave says something about having a kinship with them.

Rats and rabbits both get lonely very easily
