we didn’t celebrate hannukah growing up in the same way that we didn’t celebrate any jewish holidays BUT my great grandmother did know roughly when it happened and the first year she lived with us, when it was coming up, she said to me “there’s a jewish holiday coming soon in which you make pancakes and give children money”, and I was sold.

#presumably by pancakes she meant latki but it must have gotten lost in translation because we did just make pancakes #i also say she knew roughly when it was bc it truly was roughly. we got her even a jewish calendar #and she'd be like Today is hannukah #and we'd be like actually babushka you can see on the calendar hannukah is next week-- #and she'd be like Was I Unclear #when she was deep in dementia and close to death she was like Today Is Hannukah in the middle of june #so my mother got latkes from trader joes lmao #and she (babushka) did give us (children) money! #anyway hag sameach everyone!
