#this is about Frank Chalmers and John Boone from Red Mars #I like that the first book begins with Chalmers causing Boone's death what is chronologically the middle of the story #and ends with Chalmers sacrificing himself while calling the people he's saving idiots #and in Green Mars they're both in basically the same space in the popular imagination #as people who could help fix the world and that it's a shame they're both gone #except John actually has followers (the “Booneans”) while frank only has friends who miss him #the Russian anarchist guy also has followers (bogdanovists) but he doesn't haunt the narrative the same way as Boone and Frank #so it's not that important #just realised the notes are kinds incoherent but it's too late to fix that now
