I don’t mean to start drama or hate on Harry but why do you think he didn’t tweet yesterday about the 1D anniversary?? I really don’t understand tbh. It’s just a tweet and it’s basically fan service but it really wouldn’t take much work to do it. Considering the image he already has, that he hates 1D & thinks he’s above them, not tweeting just pushes more of that. He never interacts with them. Never mentions them by name. Why doesn’t he even tweet now? I dont like it tbh & it makes him look bad
His team wants him to have that image though. It’s not like they’re unaware of it and it’s something that would be really easy to change. Social media isn’t a huge deal, not tweeting doesn’t mean he doesn’t care, and Harry isn’t huge on using Twitter these days anyway, but it’s also not awesome when fans who have supported Harry for years start thinking that he forgot where he came from.
This narrative is by far the most frustrating part of Harry’s solo career for me and looking at Twitter today, it’s pretty obvious that it’s frustrating to a lot of people. I completely understand wanting to distance yourself from One Direction so you can have your own career - that’s something that Louis’ team has failed miserably at, actually, though their lack of promo didn’t help. But in my opinion, Harry’s team went too far in the opposite direction and they actively push the idea that he’s better than the other boys and that he thinks he’s better than the band. He hasn’t said the band’s name in years. Aside from attending Louis’ X-Factor performance and the recent sighting with Niall, he hasn’t been seen with any of the boys or said their names in years. And for what?
I know that solo Harries eat this stuff up. I saw them all over Twitter yesterday talking about how Harry carried the band, killed the band, and is better than the band - and how he knows it too. But there are a lot of us who are still around from the old days that love One Direction and don’t want to see an image where one or more of the members think they’re too good for the band that made them famous. And this fanbase still matters, so actively trying to alienate members of it isn’t really a genius strategy even as Harry expands his fanbase elsewhere. Just look at the reaction to the anniversary and how long it trended yesterday. Just look at how even with no promo, Louis has still had considerable success completely due to his existing One Direction fans. I’m glad Harry’s expanded his fanbase, but there’s absolutely no reason why he needs to shed so many One Direction fans that would’ve happily given them his support if not for this image.
A little fan service goes a long way. And unfortunately, even though a tweet is such a minor thing, that’s actually kind of the point. There’s no real excuse not to do it. If Harry or his social media team can come online to like a tweet about Wimbledon, they can come on to send one quick tweet about an anniversary when fans have trended it worldwide for like 15 hours straight. And again, even though a tweet is a minor thing, in the context of these other things, the lack of tweet can become representative of something much bigger. And it’s just sad.
Harry deserves better and honestly, so do the rest of the boys and the fans of One Direction. They matter and they don’t deserve to be pushed aside just because Sony and Jeff Azoff want to pretend the first five years of Harry’s career didn’t happen. Harry is not an asshole and he’s not ungrateful or out of touch, so I’m not sure why his team is so determined to push the image that he doesn’t give a single fuck about the band or band members that helped launch his career. Because based on what I see from solo Harries and the media, people really do believe that. And they’ll continue to unless something changes.
