#You're short. You're so short the only reason that god hasn't struck you down is he can't tell you apart from the dirt.

Sorry, it’s so short!! I loved writing this so much! :))
“I don’t know, it doesn’t really seem like him to just go off and not let me know.” You had been pacing around for the last 15 minutes with Jesse sitting in the booth and taking a couple swigs of the bottle every minute or so.
“Are we talking about the same person here? Same Cassidy?”
“Shut up.” You sighed. Cassidy was Cassidy, in the sense that he was a wild thing that you didn't really mind and he didn’t seem to either.  You’d gotten used to him leaving and coming back for months or even centuries, but that was in the past. Before you two worked out your troubles and kinks and decided maybe it wouldn’t be so bad to keep each other company. It took some time, but Cassidy broke and committed for you, fangs and all.
“So uh, how long you two been together?” Jesse’s curiosity seemed peaked. By the look, he gave as he stared down at the pretty rock on your finger.
“I met him when I was 16, he was passing by my village at the time, trying to outrun some bad people. I found him near the river, bloody and in pain. I took him back to my home and let him lay low. After he got better he just - left. Never saw him again until I moved to the city at 25.”
“Let me guess, you had Nightingale Syndrome.”
“No! No, not like that. I couldn’t really stand him when I met him again. I didn’t approve of everything he did, the lifestyle he wanted, the drinking, the drugs, the...women. I realized I wouldn’t be his first option, ever. But he gave it up, I think.”
Jesse snorted.
“I think he knew how lonely he was, how lonely he’d be, going down that road. Pursuing one night stands and numbing himself I believe, only made the hole in him grow. Imagine my surprise when he just came back in the middle of the night.”
“What’d he do?”
“He just....stayed. He told me he wanted to stop. He wanted what everyone wants, I guess. To be loved. To be accepted, and understood.”
This struck a chord within Jesse, it forced him to acknowledge something he was trying to ignore. He straightened up in the booth, palms holding up his head.
“He made me like him, but for good reason. I didn’t want to live in a world where he didn’t exist, and neither did he. I thought everything was fine again. That he’d stopped doing all these things, but I think the domesticity got to him.”
“Never love a wild thing.” Jesse blurted. You scowled.
“I just want him back home and safe. I don’t know Jesse, where did I go wrong, hmm? Was I not enough? Have I lost him?” You enclosed your arms around your body, feeling smaller now. You retreated back into yourself and your emotions, feeling the frog in your throat come up. Your lip trembled at the thought of Cassidy hurt, or worse, laying in bed with someone else. Jesse made a move to stand and comfort you but paused, suddenly staring behind you in awe.
“You haven’t lost me.”
A familiar voice suddenly chimed in and you turned to see your husband, bruised and battered, but alive. A sob resonated within you, spilling itself from your lips as you egged your body to rush him.
He grimaced at the hard contact but relaxed and gingerly cupped your face in his hands. “Oh god, what the hell were you thinking?” You whispered into his shirt.
“I’m sorry, love. I never meant to make ya think I would leave. It’s just, the bad men, they’re back. And now they know about ya.”
“You should’ve told me. We could’ve done something, together.”
Cassidy’s fingers rub circles onto your cheeks tenderly, and his eyes spark the same way they did that night he came to you in the city. He’s afraid.
“I had to throw them off, I knew they were close but I thought I’d lost them. It wasn’t sure until I saw those pictures of you. I couldn’ let them get you, I’d die before anythin happened to ya.”
“Cassidy,” You started, but he pulled you closer and rested his forehead onto yours.
“You make me feel alive. That’s why I married you. I wasn’t lyin when I said I loved ya. I was dead before I became this, but now - now I’m truly livin.”
A smile crept onto your lips as you took him in, making sure to make a note of taking care of his wounds later. “No more secrets.” You said.
“No more secrets.” He complied.
