Cycling Events at the Paris 2024 Olympics

Cycling is a permanent fixture in the Olympics, having been contested at every Summer Olympics since the first modern edition of the Games in 1896. Road, track, mountain bike, and bicycle motocross (BMX) are the four Olympic cycling disciplines. Each of these disciplines will be contested at the Paris 2024 Games, which take place from July 24 to August 11.

The road race will be the first of the four disciplines contested in Paris. This starts with a men's and women's time trial on July 27 on a 20-mile course starting at Esplanade des Invalides and finishing at Pont Alexandre III. This is the first time in Olympic history that the same route will be used for both time trials. The men's and women's road races are 170 and 98 miles, respectively.

The mountain bike race, which debuted at the Atlanta 1996 Games, takes place on July 28 and 29 at Elancourt Hill which, at an altitude of 750 feet, is the highest point in Paris. The BMX events take place at Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines BMX Stadium in the National Velodrome. The .25-mile track, which begins atop a 25-foot-high hill, was built specifically for the Olympics.

Finally, the indoor track cycling events take place from August 5-11 at the National Velodrome and involve six signature events: individual sprint, team sprint, team pursuit, keirin, omnium, and madison. Whereas bikes for the outdoor events have brakes and gears, track bicycles have no brakes and just one gear. The events have their own rules, with some of the races favoring strength and power, while others rely on strategy and tactics.

2023 UCI Track Champions League Recap

As the leaves turn orange and the weather gets crisp, where do folks go to get their cycling fix? Not to cyclocross, but to the UCI Track Champions League. Bikeflights partnered with the international track cycling event for the second year running as its official bicycle shipping service to facilitate the safe transfer of over 60 track riders’ bicycles across five rounds of fierce competition.

The bicycles were moved first after Round One in Mallorca, Spain to Round Two in Berlin, Germany, followed by transfer to Round Three in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, France, and were finally delivered to Rounds Four and Five in London, England. Bikeflights International Manager Brenna Clancey led event preparation and oversaw transportation while Delivery Manager Kent Sanchez facilitated on-the-ground operations, assisted by Bikeflights Guest Staffer Nadia Gbané throughout the first three rounds.

Bikeflights International Team Lead Sam Quijano received a last minute call-up to assist with the final two rounds in London.

“It was a phenomenal experience to be able to see and work on the operational side of the event after being involved on the planning side over the past two years,” said Sam. “The riders were a lovely group of folks who are immensely talented, and it was a privilege to help safely transport their bicycles.”

The riders competed in two primary categories across the series: sprint and endurance. The event program alternated between sprint events, such as the match sprint and the keirin, and endurance events like the scratch race and the elimination, with riders performing the overall best in each category across the series earning the title of series winner.

Women’s Sprint - Ellesse Andrews (New Zealand)

Men’s Sprint - Harrie Lavreysen (Netherlands)

Our responsibility at Bikeflights was to safely and quickly transport the athletes’ bicycles between each velodrome location so riders wouldn’t have to worry about bringing their bicycles on airlines or on public transit between rounds. For the second consecutive year, we pulled this feat off without a hitch! Once the event series came to a close in London, we also helped ship many of the riders’ bicycles back to their desired locations in the European Union.

When not directing the organized chaos of packing, labeling and transporting dozens of athletes’ bicycles, Kent and Sam were able to take some time to see the sights around London. They were able to visit famous sites such as the London Bridge, Borough Market and Hyde Park and got to attend a West Ham United home game.

Försök att utmana dubbelkronan

Den sista etappen av Tour de France börjar på söndag eftermiddag i Saint-Quentin, Yvelines, med ryttare i ljus Cykelkläder som deltar i en traditionell åktur. Den bekväma resplanen i slättsektionen hindrade inte den sista korta skuren av att visa upp sig på Champs Elysees senare

Jonas Wengergaard är favoriserad att ta sin andra Tour de France-titel. Han leder totalt tvåan Pojaka med 7 minuter och 29 sekunder. Det är det största gapet mellan titeln och tvåan sedan 2014, och Wengergaard är vinnaren så länge han ser till att han kommer säkert på sin cykel till Paris. Tadj Pogacar försökte göra en seriös tävling på vägen, och han blev snabbt överväldigad av danskens överlägsenhet. "Jag är inte mycket starkare än förra året, men jag fortsätter att träna och förbättra mig, och till skillnad från 2022 upplevde jag inga hälsoproblem under våren", insisterade Wenggard. Hans seger bekräftade rationaliteten och klokheten i en strategi helt fokuserad på att förbereda sig för Tour de France. Wengergaard, som hade en Bianchi Countervail cykelkläder den dagen, meddelade att han också kommer att delta i Vuelta a España i slutet av augusti, och försöker vinna Tour de France och Vuelta España-dubbel, den första sedan Christopher Froome 2017. Ingen annan föraren har någonsin levt en dröm.
