a BIG list of “Realistic” pokemon!
Politoed: like the lyrebird of frog pokemon, sets off every frog pokemon in their area because they mimic the calls of other frogs, confusing them.
Bidoof: its a baby beaver
Squirtle: squirtles live out in the sea or in deep lakes for a long time, before they develop a more stout, Snapping-turtle like body plan to facilitate them becoming more terrestrial to avoid competing too much with their young
Blaziken: this chicken remembered it was a dinosaur and stood up
Pelipper: a fell beast known as a Pelican. but with an even BIGGER throat pouch
Surskit: the nymph stage of maquerain. their undeveloped wings come together to form a protective spike for now
Gastly Line: misinterpreted as spirits of the dead, these spider-pokemon have a peculiar defense, by folding their limbs together with coloration that makes them resemble a big scary face with a dangling tongue. as they grow older they weave more webbing together to make a false Puppet-body to hide in and protect itself (known at this point as a ‘Haunter’). when they reach a certain age, many Haunter will move into the same web-body together and mate continuously with each other (Colloquially known as a “Gengar”). their webs are coated with a substance that dries easily and is toxic when inhaled, as a defense mechanism they shake their web furiously to scatter this substance as a toxic cloud of powdered dust.
Wobbuffet: wasnt sure what to do with wobbuffet, my beloved weirdo. had 4 ideas. 1: wobbuffet is a gecko with a huge tail. 2: Wobbuffet is a sea cucumber with an inflatable filament. 3: wobbuffet is some sort of hydrozoan. 4: wobbuffet is it’s own funky monstery thing. could be any of em
Chandelure line: getting it’s own post soon
Mimikyu: a land cuttlefish that once used hide and furs from dead pokemon to cover itself as a decoy and keep its body from drying out (putting it in direct competition with Banette) now moved onto the much more plentiful human-made cloth scraps and plushies. when surprised they flash and strobe in bright lights and colors, causing epileptic seizures in those who are sensitive.
Rotom: a form of flatworm, once considered a pest. they are attracted to old electronics due to the rubber gaskets, fittings and wire insulation. they feed on these before gradually breaking down the copper wiring. due to an instinct to aggressively defend their food source with electronic shocks, and being attracted to areas of high current (like the control panel or capacitors) this gives the impression that rotom ‘Possesses’ electronics
Solosis line: an amphibian pokemon that evolved to retain it’s gelatinous egg casing as a protective coating. the jelly is full of muscle fibers and neurons in a sort of mesh that is difficult to see.
Sandygast: an octopus pokemon that prowls the beach for krabby to eat. they cover themselves in sand to protect from the beating sun, even stealing unattended shovels from children on the beach to help. they prop themselves up as false shelter to the krabby to hide in away from wingull, before plopping down on them and devouring them.
Sawk & Throh: 2 morphs of the same species of short tailed/Tailless komodo dragon pokemon. living in small groups that fight constantly to establish pecking order. the sawk morph is very speedy and nimble in exchange for being very frail in comparison, while the Throh morph is much stronger and heavier but extremely slow. there is a misunderstanding that sawk and throh are ‘entirely male’ but this is untrue, rather they have a genital configuration similar to hyena’s, not to mention mating is rarely ever observed and thus poorly understood.
Kecleon: a lizard pokemon with a highly sophisticated form of camouflage, their scales even capable of taking on levels of bioluminescence and phosphorescence to increase the effectiveness of the disguise. the red band along their midsection is a clear selection of scales over a patch of light-sensitive cells that automatically adjust levels of light for their camouflage while the eyes focus on depth, shapes, details and colors.
Yamask line: black scavenger birds that build nests from glittering, sparkling objects. in the past they were known to appear in the homes of recently deceased in the unovan desert, attracted by the bronze ‘death mask’ laid over the face of the deceased, the fact that they were constantly found taking them created the myth that these birds are in fact the souls of the departed. when they mature they lose the ability to fly, but gain much greater strength and developed phalanges on their former-wings that helps them carry their nest easier. in the past they wove their nests as baskets with both lid and container to retain all the sparkling materials theyve gathered with a special, weblike secretion from their Mucus glands. but with the increasing popularity of coffins, caskets and sarcophagi in bright, glittering colors they became much more entranced by them and grew in strength to use them as semi-mobile shelter. they are Highly aggressive and possessive of anything theyve gathered.
Castform: a form of jellyfish pokemon. while technically speaking very resistant to changes in weather, they Do react strongly to it, which was a trait long bred into them by humans for weather prediction. as such, they are 'made' by humans, but not as directly as some 'synthetic' pokemon

FORGOT TO REPLY TO THIS SO SORRY ASH
I loooove the pokepark games!!!! i completed the first one (eventually... i got lost and stuck a LOT partially due to my vision and also because im a terrible gamer) getting to the prism pavillion and chasing mew.... RAYQUAZA???? i Really enjoy the design of the world!!! especially love beach zone.. i always had so much fun there. (struggled Big Time in haunted zone bc it waa soo dark and trying to find rotom(? i think that was a task) was very difficult. i somehow got through it though!! and the thing with the treehouse.... i always loved the little xylophone staircase
with pokepark 2 wonders beyond i never completed it, but i did see a playthrough that finished it years later i think!! i looove snivy and her double jump. snivy's speed BELOVED!! and i think it was really cool how personalized each of the 3 playable pokemon were (i know they were specifically based on the anims which was near and dear to my heart because i ADORE the black & white anime. one of my favs tied with gen 3)
i love pokepark oughhhh

So I started thinking about how the Switch Gen 4 remake won’t feature the Poketch anymore (RIP one of the best uses of the bottom screen). So for fun I’m doing a ranking of:
The best uses of the bottom screen in the DS/3DS era Pokémon games.
(For the record I expect absolutely none of these rankings to be controversial but we’ll see).
1) Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire (PokeNav Plus)
The bottom screen functionality with the PokeNav was just superb. First we have AreaNav, and not only does it give you a map, but it tells you which trainers want a rematch, which areas have berries ready to harvest, secret base info, which Pokémon can be found in the area, and you can conveniently just tap it to fly around.
And if that wasn’t enough you have the DexNav function, which allows you to easily track which Pokémon you have and haven’t caught in an area and adds some neat functionality to help with catching ‘mons you’ve already caught and obtaining hidden abilities and shinies.
Basically it does everything a good bottom screen should do: give you an easy shortcut to do things instead of constant menuing and provide you with vital information at a glance.
2) Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum (Poketch)
(This one was really close to first, by the way)
The Poketch was an amazing, if a bit clunky, tool. I didn’t fully utilize it when I first played the game (mostly because I was a kid at the time and didn’t quiiiiite understand how useful it was) but it’s literally invaluable. A clock, a calculator, memo pad, pedometer, dowsing machine, berry tracker, type matchup checker, you name it and there’s probably an app for it.
I’d rate it slightly over the PokeNav because it features a lot of apps that do things you’d normally have to go see an NPC for. No constant flying to Verdanturf to check your friendship or being chained to Solaceon town to see if you’ve got eggs ready, for example.
There’s two reasons I put it below ORAS though.
There are apps that, while fun, are completely useless (e.g. coin flip). This was particularly obnoxious in Diamond and Pearl because the Poketch could only switch apps one way, so if you accidentally skipped the app you wanted to use you had to cycle aaaaall the way back around. Not a huge deal at the beginning of the game but if you have all 25 or so apps it’s tedious. Thankfully this was fixed in Platinum.
Apps can be a little obscure to obtain and easy to miss. Some of them are even locked to post game, which sort of defeats the purpose unless you intend to play a lot after you’ve beaten the game.
3) HeartGold and SoulSilver (Menu, Run Button, Registered Items)
Heart Gold and Soul Silver had some nice functionality, even if it wasn’t as flashy as ORAS or DPPt. Having the menu on the bottom screen at all times, to easily click into the bag or wherever you needed, was nice. What really made it stand out was the extra functionality it had. The run button, for easy one handed grinding, is one of the more beloved things. This was also the first game that allowed for multiple registered items (two, doesn’t hold a candle to what Black and White did but it was a game changer for the time)
4) X and Y (Pokemon-Amie, Super Training, and the Player Search System)
If I could put a dividing line here then hoooo boy I would. From here down I really don’t think any of these games utilized their bottom screens well, it’s just a matter of picking the least bad ones.
Now credit where it’s due, the PSS did give easy access to the GTS of the time, but otherwise it’s only really useful if you do a lot of online competitive stuff (which, personally, I did not). Super Training was also incredibly useful for easily EV training your Pokémon (which, granted, I did not do a lot of because Pokémon games are easy enough without that). Pokémon-Amie is a very cute distraction, though not one I would give up my entire bottom screen for to have it at the ready.
It’s not necessarily that these are bad features, it’s just that they’re all extremely optional and they could have done so much more with it. And we see how much more they did with it in ORAS, where all three of these functions are included on top of the Area and DexNav functionality!
5) Black, White, Black 2, and White 2 (C Gear)
A massive step down from Gen 4 to say the least. It’s kind of a rudimentary PSS, but it only works with people in your immediate area (which means it’s completely useless unless you have people nearby also playing these games at the same time as you). That’s basically all it does.
The coolest thing was changing the skins, but apparently as of 2014 you can no longer do that since they tied that to their now defunct online servers for these games.
6) Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, and Ultra Moon (Rotom Dex)
Somehow the last 3DS game also managed to have the most garbage bottom screen of them all. It’s basically a glorified map showing you exactly where you are in real time, in a series where routes and towns are not complicated enough to warrant such a function. It’s only other use is basically to be a quick button to your pokedex and to give you hints.
Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon did absolutely nothing to improve on this. Instead of adding more functionality or features, they gave the Rotom dex a relationship score (?) and “more personality” which is... yeah not what I use my bottom screen for guys. Also I didn’t even realize it existed until I was making this list and looked the thing up to make sure I covered all of the features.

Water, Ghost, and Normal! :3
Bless you, Terra! ;D;
Water:
- my favorite pokemon of that type
Feraligatr! It’s also my favourite Pokémon of all time, so... yeah!
- my second favorite pokemon of that type
Hmmm... Probably Gyarados, and even more so if it’s its shiny form! I have so many memories of using the same Gyarados in Pokémon Yellow, Gold and Crystal :”3
- the cutest pokemon of that type
I would say Oshawott! It just looks so squishy... And it’s not spiky yet, which helps when you want to hug it.
- the most stupid or dumb (looking) pokemon of that type
To be perfectly clear, I love basically all Pokémon, and there isn’t any that looks especially dumb to me, but if I have to choose one... I guess Bibarel? (That probably counts as the dumbest looking Normal type, too lol)
Ghost:
- my favorite pokemon of that type
Aegislash! Especially the one you gave me, which I used all throughout Alpha Sapphire :D
- my second favorite pokemon of that type
It’s a tie between Decidueye and Gengar. The latter is not a Pokémon I’ve ever used (in fact, Aegislash and Decidueye are the only Ghosts I’ve had in my teams), but I love its design and I want to use a Gengar in the next Pokémon game I play! ...Whenever I get a Switch--
- the cutest pokemon of that type
Either Rotom or Pumpkaboo. They are both Friends.
- the most stupid or dumb (looking) pokemon of that type
Hmm... Maybe the Sandygast line. I love it regardless, but I find it pretty funny-looking.
Normal:
- my favorite pokemon of that type
Oh, gosh, I don’t know. Most of my teams have been comprised of the first Pokémon you find in each game, so I love so many of those early-route babies. But if I am forced to choose, I’d probably say... Raticate...?
- my second favorite pokemon of that type
Not again-- I’ll just give a shoutout to some of my favs, okay? Okay. Fearow, Linoone, Noctowl, Pidgeot, Heliolisk, Staraptor, Swellow, Stoutland--you are all dearly beloved.
- the cutest pokemon of that type
THIS QUESTION IS ACTUAL TORTURE, NGL. But I have always had a soft spot for Porygon, and since I haven’t mentioned it yet... I’ll go with Porygon.
- the most stupid or dumb (looking) pokemon of that type
I thought it was going to be Bibarel again, or Bidoof. But no. I just remembered there are two Normal types I actively dislike: Purugly and Watchog. The former, because I have traumatic memories from trying to defeat it in Pokémon Pearl and failing over and over (I never had any problems with Gen 2′s Miltank, but Purugly DESTROYED me). And Watchog is the only early-route Pokémon I’ve tried to use and have ditched because it just wasn’t doing it for me at all. Maybe mine simply had horrendous stats, idk, but it left a bitter taste in my mouth. So, yeah, those two.

Man i hate how ive kinda lost my enthusiasm for pokemon directs cos of just HOW MANY TIMES ive been dissappointed. Like eventually i calmed down and was able to see that lets go pikavee was actually a more original remake and a genuinely good game in its own right but at the time OH GOD that was like the peak of my absolute no patience with nintendo. Like they had a fuckin sinnoh hint IN THE DAMN VIDEOS RIGHT BEFORE IT, there was that shelf of all the games behind the announcer guy except diamond and pearl were missing. How does that make any sense if he was just announcing kanto?? I really hate how kanto got a SECOND REMAKE before sinnoh even got one. And how much we've been left grasping at straws for any hint that maybe nintendo remembers this goddamn generation. It felt much less bad for the johto confirmed and hoenn confirmed eras, somehow? Like i guess cos those two games were already pretty beloved when they first came out and already get semi frequent mentiona by nintendo. The whole reason sinnoh fans are SO excited for a remake is that its THE GENERATION THAT MIST NEEDS ONE! And the generation that'll most lose out if its remake isnt good. It originally lost out entirely because of shit it cant control-the slow and clunky nature of the engine in game freak's first ds game, the rudimentary nature of early wifi events, getting a bad reputation of being lazy for having so many evos and pre evos OF KANTO POKEMON because nintendo WONT SHUT UP ABOUT GODDAMN KANTO. But it had such a great plot and characters and really could have been so much more if it had the chance it neededd!! Just imagine how much different it could be if it was just on GOOD TECHNOLOGY! And the even gooder fully 3d engine we have nowadays!!!!
And aaagh the wasted character CHARON who is still my fuckin FAVOURITE OF ALL FICTION EVER for REASOJS I CANT EVEN UNDERSTAND because its UP IN THE AIR WHETHER HE'S REDEEMABLE OR NOT because HE WAS IN ONE OF THOSE BAD WIFI EVENTS. Fuckin hell ive been sitting her for a decade compiling Grandpa Is Good Man Evidence like fuckin CHECK OUT THE ORIGINAL JAPANESE SCRIPT AND THIS ONE SOLITARY TRADING CARD hhh everyone please be as obsessed as i am, somehow. I really really hope if we do get sinnoh remakes he's not been removed from them. Cos i mean if they say 'its based on dp instead of platinum" itd make so much less sense than emerald since platinum was straight up a bug patch/completed version of this game they were struggling to get done. The only changes in it are a more expanded version of the story we already had, and also a grandpa. And the fandom fuckin loved Looker and he's already been confirmed canon via repeated cameos over the last decade so they cant say charon doesnt exist too!! But man im expecting something like he's the only one who doesnt get the rescuing he needs in the remake and his whole event is just exactly the same and im still left stuck defending a guy who's ambiguous whether he did have a sad backstory or not. Or worse they'll confirm the sad backstory does belong to somebody else and all my evidence was wrong hhhh. But STILL i"d be super happy just to get a goddamn answer to the question, even if its no! And to see this random comfort character of my early teenage years be brought back in glorious 3d even if they miss the mark and waste him again. I feel worried cos kingdom hearts did the impossible and canonized vexen being good and gave him an even better redemption than i ever imagined and im like NOOO DID I WASTE MY WISH ON THE WRONG GUY?? I DIDNT EVEN KNOW THERE WAS A GENIE LISTENING!!!
Anyway i found The Perfect Rotom Plush in a supermarket on the way back from a stressful day last week and CAN THIS BE A SIGN PLEASE!! Hhh i lost my copy of The One Trading Card when i was cleaning the house but i can hug these two plushie rotoms as i ONCE AGAIN get hyped for a thing i know nintendi wont goddamn confirm and itll just be fuckin lets go third version or kanto remake number 3 hhhhhh
Hhhhhhh
Man i feel bad that i just got into yokai watch cos ALSO it has another loveable grumpy science villain who got canonically redeemed later and i keep feeling like im bringing bad luck upon the grandpa hopes!!! But i guess it makes sense that ive been drawn to similar plotlines that actually contain the good ending potential i saw in this trash man all those years ago...
Anyway in summary

wx’s team is ‘incredibly weak to ground and fighting’ so just like in fanon (and in canon if you ask me /j ) only Wolfgang and wormwood can beat WX? yes wormwood would have both Grass AND ground types, in this essay I will-
honestly it took all my strength not to make a balanced team because competitive pokemon has ruined me
i had to focus more on pokemon wx would like-- non-organic creatures, or if they were organic, they better be hella electric. i picked vikavolt over other electric types because it kinda looks like it has armor, and the relationship it has with chargabug where it will pick one up to act as its battery
type advantages arent everything, strategy also matters. assuming wolfgang and wormwood would know how to play smart LOL
(that was mean im sorry)
also avoided any and all water types for REASONS lol
now if i were to make a wx themed team that were more battle ready? this is my idea:
fair waring-- i haven't played competitive regularly since generation 7 (can you blame me. i hate zacian and dracovish-- but not my dracovish. labyrinth my beloved). i was a singles battler, not a vgc battler. i do occasionally indulge in vgc content, but i did not play that format. as such this is based on smogon national dex OU rules

i have stretched the definition on inanimate/constructs... but i still get the ONE electric type
this team skews pretty heavy towards special attackers (since they are the sweepers) but get to be annoying as fuck with celesteela <3
i think wx fits more with the first team i made but i cannot keep my dark urges locked away forever. they always recess

tag navigation!
i'm probably going to have a lot more tags in the future so i will actually just make this a separate post to make it more manageable for both me and you :> (always gonna be pending updates!)
main tags!
#storydev - the main storyline of the pokeblog!
#charadev - selected character development posts where a character gets development/growth (ofc :P) but also just any silly or big character moments :3
(these two have some overlap, so there might be a post tagged with both tags cuz i couldn't decide which one to use lol)
#satlorei - this technically goes under the same umbrella as charadev but i still made a separate tag just for my beloved horsie boi Satori because he is all kinds of fucked up <3 this is for when Satori lore gets dropped or a more Satori-centric post is made :> (and the name is just a combination of 'lore' and 'satori' lmao)
major side tags!
#throne of nothing arc - 100 follower celebration mini-arc that introduces anon asks from King Rhoam! he starts being an emotionally abusive bitchass to Zelda but he gets better dw <3
#zorua swap - muse mixup madness (prompt 2: one-two switcheroo) for april — Illanero over at @zoruascanbetrainerstoo gets yeeted in Zelda's place and chaos ensues!
minor side tags!
#zeldaposting, #linkposting, #urbosaposting - character tags for when a character makes a solo post!
#rotomposting - a bit different from the other character tags - occasionally, one of their rotom phones (usually Zelda's) takes a video/audio recording and posts it to rotomblr. this will be signified in with this tag
#frog saga - literally just Zelda getting Pelipper mailed a shitton of frog merch. that's it
#ask game - self-explanatory :P all ask games/prompts will be tagged with this
#glimpse of the past - this is an ask game where you can get a glimpse of one of my characters' pasts! it will be always ongoing and yall are free to send in an hourglass emoji whenever :D
