Most Wickets In IPL History - OneTurf News
Tumblr media
The Indian Premier League 2024 season has reached the business end, and the biggest talking point this year has been the dominance of the bat over the ball, with batting-friendly pitches, record-breaking totals, shocking strike rates, and sixes galore being the norm of the season. While Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders have taken the cricketing world by storm, others like the Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru have been poor with the ball and are languishing at the bottom of the table. There is a saying that batters win you matches, but it is the bowlers who win you tournaments. There’s constant pressure on bowlers to give their best, as even a tiny mistake can end the team’s campaign. Having said that, world-class bowlers have performed well, showcasing their experience and taking wickets at crucial junctures. While some of the experienced bowlers have gone for runs in the IPL 2024 season so far, let’s take a look at the list of bowlers who have taken the most wickets in IPL history to date.
Top 3 bowlers with the most wickets in IPL history
Yuzvendra Chahal — 200 Wickets Breaching new milestones in his entertaining T20 career, Indian wrist spinner Yuzvendra Chahal entered his name into the history books by taking his 200th IPL wicket in match 38 of the IPL 2024 season between Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians on Monday. The spin wizard dismissed MI’s Mohammad Nabi to become the first player in the history of IPL to take 200 wickets. The wily wrist spinner has been part of three teams IPL sides, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Rajasthan Royals. However, Chahal came into the limelight when he consistently took wickets for RCB, especially at their batting-friendly home ground, M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Despite his record performance, RCB did not retain Chahal. The 33-year-old leg spinner ended up winning the Purple Cap playing for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2022 season, taking 27 wickets. He is currently in the sixth position for most wickets in IPL 2024. While talking about Chahal’s overall IPL stats, he has an impressive economy of 7.8 and a bowling average of 22.12.
Dwayne Bravo — 183 Wickets Former Chennai Super Kings’ pace bowling all-rounder Dwayne Bravo is right at the top in the 2nd spot when it comes to the bowlers with the most wickets in IPL history, having taken as many as 183 wickets from 161 games at an economy of 8.39. The West Indies superstar holds the joint first position on the list of highest wicket-takers in IPL in a single season alongside Harshal Patel. The star all-rounder took 32 wickets in 18 games during the IPL 2013 season. His impressive bowling performance helped the Chennai Super Kings qualify for the finals. While talking about his entire IPL playoffs career, Bravo has taken 28 wickets, with a strike rate of 13.8 and an economy rate of 8.21 in 19 matches.

4. 4 runs vs RPS, Vizag 2016
Tumblr media
In IPL 2016, Sunrisers Hyderabad secured an exciting four-run win over Rising Pune Supergiants. Despite Adam Zampa’s impressive performance of taking 6 wickets for just 19 runs, SRH’s strong pace attack, led by Ashish Nehra, successfully defended a modest total of 137. Sunrisers Hyderabad claimed a nail-biting four-run victory against Delhi Daredevils in IPL 2014. Aaron Finch’s 88* and David Warner’s 58* helped SRH reach a total of 184/1. Despite a strong start by DD’s openers, errors in tactics and dropped catches proved costly for them.

IPL 2024 Auction: Gujarat Titans Captain Hardik Pandya Is Rejoining Mumbai Indians For All-Cash Trade, Says Report
Tumblr media
In what could mark one of the most significant trades in Indian Premier League (IPL) history, the captain of Gujarat Titans, Hardik Pandya, is reportedly poised to return to his former franchise, the Mumbai Indians (MI), ahead of the IPL 2024 auction set for December. This anticipated move is set to be an all-cash trade, with MI covering Hardik's entire salary and an undisclosed transfer fee to GT. Notably, it's speculated that Hardik might receive half of the transfer fee, as reported by ESPNcricinfo.
Hardik Pandya's IPL salary stands at around $1.8 million, approximately equivalent to Rs 15 crore. However, both franchises have maintained silence regarding the specifics of this lucrative deal. If finalized, this trade would mark the first instance of an IPL-winning captain switching teams via trade. Hardik previously led the Titans to their debut IPL trophy in 2022, and in 2023, guided the team to the final where they fell short against MS Dhoni's Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
For this trade to materialize, MI must have Rs 15 crore available in their purse, but currently, they possess only Rs 0.05 crore. Each of the ten franchises is allotted Rs 5 crore for the forthcoming auction. To acquire the remaining Rs 10 crore required to bring Hardik on board, MI will need to release some players.
During his two-season tenure with the Titans, Hardik showcased his prowess by amassing 833 runs in 30 innings, boasting an impressive average of 41.65 and a striking rate of 133.49. Additionally, he contributed to the team's bowling strength, securing 11 wickets with an economy rate of 8.1. Presently, Hardik is sidelined due to an ankle injury sustained during India's ODI World Cup campaign.
Prior to this potential trade, only two captains had been traded - R Ashwin and Ajinkya Rahane - when Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) exchanged players.
Hardik commenced his IPL journey with the Mumbai Indians in 2015. However, ahead of the 2022 mega auctions, MI had to let Hardik go as they could retain only a limited number of players. GT owners, CVC Capital, secured Hardik from the pool along with Rashid Khan and Shubman Gill.
Notably, Hardik clinched four IPL titles with MI in 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020 respectively. With Rohit Sharma potentially nearing retirement, MI might see Hardik's return as an opportunity for him to lead the side in the forthcoming years.

More 200-plus scores than ever, seniors making a triumphant comeback and other trends from bygone season
Looking back at the events of IPL 2023, “ IPL Schedule “ we take a look at some of the trends from the 16th edition of the league and how the tournament changed this year.
The 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) came to a thrilling conclusion in the early hours of Tuesday with Chennai Super Kings defeating Gujarat Titans by five wickets at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad to win their fifth title under MS Dhoni’s leadership.
The summit clash began on Sunday evening but ended up getting stretched over a couple of days with erratic weather threatening to play spoilsport but ultimately relenting and allowing the two sides to play out one of the closely-fought finals in the history of the world’s biggest T20 league.
Along the way, “ IPL Schedule “ the season witnessed a major change with an Impact Player rule being implemented which made the tournament a lot more competitive and exciting.
Looking back at the events of IPL 2023, we take a look at some of the trends from the bygone season and how the tournament changed this year.
Impact Player
The biggest talking point this season was the introduction of the Impact Player rule, “ IPL Schedule “which had been piloted in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in late 2022 before being implemented in the cash-rich league. The rule, which essentially could be seen as cricket’s first attempt at bringing in a substitution-like rule that is in place in team sports such as football, replace a player at any given stage of the match.
What was important was the fact that the Impact Player did not have to be a like-for-like replacement of the substituted player and could play as a fully-functional member of the XI, allowing teams to start with an extra batter in their lineup if batting first, and then bringing in a bowler in the second innings. The rule did have a revolutionary effect on the league, which we explore in greater detail below.
Frequency of 200+ totals
Thanks to the introduction of the Impact Player rule, “ IPL Schedule “ teams got to field an extra batter in their lineup while batting. The most noticeable impact of that rule — more 200+ totals being scored this season than ever before.

CSK's Ravindra Jadeja's last-ball Last-Ball Win: A New Chapter in IPL History
Tumblr media
CSK's Ravindra Jadeja's last-ball Last-Ball Win: A New Chapter in IPL History The IPL championship game was shortened to 15 overs due to rain delays on Monday night. Despite not being a T20 or T10 format, the Chennai Super Kings emerged victorious over their opponents, achieving a nail-biting victory off the final ball with five wickets in hand. The thrilling game concluded at 1.30 am on Tuesday in front of a packed crowd in Ahmedabad, with Ravindra Jadeja scoring the necessary 10 runs off the last two balls. In the reduced overs game, there was a lot of pressure on both bowlers and batters. Due to batters having only a limited number of overs to score runs, the powerplay was filled with aggressive play. Although the bowlers Mohammed Shami and Hardik Pandya were unable to create much movement, the leg-spinner Rashid Khan was unable to generate any turn in the ball. Despite the opposition's best efforts, Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad managed to score 52 runs without losing any wickets in just four overs. As a result, CSK only required 119 runs in the remaining 11 overs with all wickets still intact, which was a quite achievable target in a T20 game. Despite GT's valiant effort, they couldn't win the game. Similar to Chennai Super Kings, the key to Gujarat Titans' achievements is their consistency. However, they have been trying out different players at the No. 3 batting position. One such player is Sai Sudharsan, a 21-year-old left-handed batsman who has only played in half of GT's matches. Sudharsan displayed promise early on, but he came through when it mattered most, with a remarkable innings of 96 off just 47 balls, featuring eight fours and six sixes. A declaration directed at his team, explaining why he deserved more playing time, and addressing CSK, the franchise from his hometown who previously overlooked him despite his time with their junior team in TNPL.  Sudharsan comes from a family with a background in sports, as his father R Bharadwaj was a former India sprinter and his mother Usha played volleyball. GT selected him for a base prize of ₹20 lakh prior to IPL 2022. Sudharsan showed great fluency with the bat from the moment he stepped onto the pitch in the eighth over following Shubman Gill’s dismissal. He hit two impressive sixes off Maheesh Theekshana in the 15th over, one from a full toss and the other in the direction of cow corner. The left-hander reached his half-century in the subsequent over, having taken just 33 deliveries to do so. CSK’s powerplay bowling was uninspiring until Sudharsan arrived at the crease. The bowlers had a tendency to bowl down leg or pitch it too full. A sharp catch taken by Dhoni off Ravindra Jadeja helped slow GT down, sending Shubhman Gill (39) back to the pavilion. GT had reached 86/1 mid-innings, but the pitch was too flat for CSK’s spinners to gain control in the middle overs. The spin duo, consisting of Theekshana and Jadeja, conceded 74 runs in 8 overs. Though it seems distant, Sudharsan managed to control Anrich Nortje's speed on a difficult Ferozeshah Kotla surface during the beginning of IPL 2023. In his undefeated score of 62, he executed the ramp and scoop shots against Nortje's rapid pace. However, during the previous game against Mumbai Indians, Sudharsan's pace decelerated in the final overs, resulting in a retired out for the impressive Rashid Khan. Nevertheless, he rectified this issue in the current game. In the 17th over, he opened up some space and endeavored to reverse scoop Tushar Deshpande over short fineleg. Although the six was a result of a leading edge, Sudharsan's aim was evident. Subsequently, by using an innovative approach to unsettle Deshpande, the bowler began to deliver wider balls. Three consecutive boundaries ensued as the left-handed batsman exploited the gaps resulting from Deshpande's wider delivery. These gaps were located on both sides of mid-off, as well as through covers. This consequential 20-run over provided the required momentum for GT's late inning's attack. Unfortunately for Deshpande, he couldn't stop the flow of runs and leaked an additional 18 runs in his subsequent over, which Pandya capitalized on to maximum effect. Sudharsan's assault persisted during the last over, facing off against Pathirana, esteemed as one of the finest death-over bowlers in the tournament. Sudharsan anticipated everything, standing close to the crease. The Malinga-copy missed his aim twice, resulting in Sudharsan scoring two sixes. In the third ball, Pathirana finally delivered a yorker, ending Sudharsan's excellent innings just four runs shy of a hundred. Nevertheless, Sudharsan's captain approved of his performance, and the two players fist-bumped as Sudharsan basked in the applause of the audience. In the final five overs, GT scored 71 runs, bringing their total score to 214. Read the full article
