Cultivate presents Next (Au Suivant) – An on-line art exhibition…
Tumblr media
Welcome to Next, This time we’ll let the art do the talking first rather than clutter the top of the page with words or introductions, the intro is down at the bottom of the page, under the art and those oh so vital links. Please do scroll to the foot of the page for those all important links to all the artists, the links are the vital things…
Please click on an image to enlarge it or to run the slide show (and do please view it all on a decent sized monitor please, something more than a phone for gawdsake, surely the art deserves more than a tiny phone…)
We would really like to think, or maybe hope, just as we said last time, that it as simple as us just saying hey, here’s some art and here’s the links to the artists, off you go. We really would like to think it was that simple. This is the 15th on-line exhibition from Cultivate and we think, if we’ve counted it right, the 164th Cultivate art show in all. Once again this show is brought to you by Cultivate founders Sean Worrall and Emma Harvey, once again we invited 36 of our fellow artists to join us and once again we invite you to explore art and artists gathered from all over the land and indeed the globe. Artists from London, from all over the UK, from Poland, from Turkey, Brazil, Bulgaria, from the USA, from South Wales Manchester, Norfolk, from all over the place.
We like putting these shows together, we said this last time, it forces us to look at other people’s art a little more, it makes us explore people just a little more, we’re forced to get to know the artists who make the art just a little more than we probably would. Art excites and I hope this show does. It doesn’t really matter about the detail here, it doesn’t matter about the size or if the painting is in oil or the size of the print, not right here, not in terms of this show, for this is on on-line show, everything is flat, everything is the same size, the important thing here is that you react, that you think “oh, she looks like an exciting artist” or “I like what he’s doing, let me hit the link and find out more” – go follow their social media feeds, get on mailing lists and maybe see their art for real at some point in the future if you get a chance. This is about connecting things, connecting people, cross-pollination, I do hope this show is as simple as that. hopefully it really is as simple as that? Alright? Next? Shall we do it again next month? (sw)
LINKS TO THE ARTISTS, do please use those links now, that is the real point here, the pointing you in the direction of some exciting artists we hope you will go explore and connect with…
ALEX MANEA ANNABEL TILLEY ANNABEL WALKER ANNA-LISE HORSLEY ARTHUR ROBERTS BEN FENTON DELTA NA DOMINIKA SURMACZ ELOISE GOVIER EMMA HARVEY FIONA STIRLING GLENDA ZEPPA JEREMY MORGAN JESS PARRY KATHY BRUCE LAINE TOMKINSON LETICIA BARRETO LISA V. ROBINSON LORRAINE WHELAN MADELEINE STRINDBERG MARBLEU MARK BURRELL MARK PURVES MATT DOSA MELIKE MELISSA WRAXALL MICHELLE FIRMENT REID MILA RACZKOWSKA MONIKA LORINCOVA MONSUR AWOTUNDE NICK GRINDROD PATRICIA FIGUEIREDO RAFAL PODSOBINSKI SARAH LOUISE HAWKINS SARAH STRACHAN SEAN WORRALL SHANNON VERTIGAN TAMIR DAVID
And that was it, a ninth on-line show during these strange locked-down times we’e hopefully coming out of now.  A big big thanks to anyone and everyone who has visited the exhibition, a big big thanks to all involved in the show. None of the artists were charged a submission fee or anything else, everything here was done for free, all our time and effort.
And if you do feel like making a small donation – We bring all this art, music and underculture to you for free, we really don’t want to clutter up our pages with annoying adverts, no one wants that, but it does take up a lot of time, hours and hours of time. If you should feel like supporting Organ/Cultivate (for it is one in the same) by making a small donation to help keep all this flowing that would be delightful, thank you.
Coming next? Well maybe these shows are monthly now, there has now been one in January, February, March anw April, maybe we”ll do it again in May? Now if only the damn aloof elitist Arts Couuncil would see thia as being worthy of actual support, they do like ot tell us in priviate how valued it all is. Seems officially they prefer thosew who talk it to those of us who actually walk it. Let’s Create?

The Nightmare Before Christmas and the Curse of the Oogie-Boogie Set
In between visits by perennially disgruntled The Nightmare Before Christmas employees, a few other adventures awaited me on the production of the movie. One of them actually involved Tim Burton.
He showed up at the studio one morning with Lisa Marie in tow.
Jenny, TNBC’s fab accounting assistant had just poured water into our coffee maker and hit the ‘On’ button. We had an old-fashioned restaurant style system which did not include an automatic shut-off. Tim, in his zeal to get some caffeine into his system made a bee-line for the kitchen.
Before I could intercede, he’d snatched the glass coffee pot off the burner; emptied its contents into a large Styrofoam cup; added milk and/or sugar before placing the pot back to catch the remaining coffee.
Tim and the strikingly beautiful Lisa Marie disappeared to their confab with Kathleen Gavin, our producer and Henry Selick, TNBC’s director.
I turned back to survey the damage.
Me: “Jen, the best Smiley Face I can put on this one, is that Tim Burton is one intense and focused individual.”
Jen: “You want the counter or the carpet?”
Me: “The carpet. It will take longer and delay my inevitable daily public stoning in front of The Big Board at the hands of the animators.”
Jen: “Oh come on. It’s not that bad. They don’t stone you every day.”
Me: “That’s true. Sometimes they do it twice.”
****
The next incident involved the late night stage inspections, of which I became a part after Jackie, the former head of scheduling, left on maternity leave and I moved from stage management (ahem) to the production department.
The production department split up the responsibility of doing one final late night walk-through of the stages among the entirety of the staff, which now included me. We wanted to share the pain of 14 hour days equally. Okay, they did. I might have. I can’t remember.
Before finishing their shift, one production person checked on the stages and made sure the animators, some of whom did work very late, had everything they needed to finish a shot or at least continue one.
Along with everyone in the production department, I pulled that duty once a month. Most of the inspections were fairly routine and involved finding a missing prop or getting animators tape, paint, or glue. They were a very self-sufficient bunch, used to working long hours on their own, but a last check-in did help expedite the process.
During one of my late night shifts I walked the main studio, which included the Roulette Wheel set, the one used for the final confrontation between Jack and Oogie-Boogie. It occupied the largest stage in the complex. The exact dimensions escape me, but about half the set lived on a couple pieces of secured plywood whose length and width exceeded that of a King-sized bed.
Which turned out to be a very appropriate comparison.
Now would be a good time to explain the physical rigors of stop-motion animation. Anyone trained in this particular artform has to be in relatively good shape. I’ve never seen a fat animator. Okay, that’s not true. I’ve seen plenty of fat animators. They sit on their behinds and push a mouse, pencil, or joystick around and make pretty pictures on a monitor.
The qualification I make is I’ve never seen a fat stop-motion animator.
One of TNBC’s animators, in particular, would rise everyone morning at 6am and do an hour of plyometrics before coming into work. Another one studied martial arts. One of them, an artist from Boston, had to be one of the most athletic people I’d ever met. Had he not gone into animation, I believe he could have excelled at professional sports.
It’s a very physical job. A lot of crawling, climbing, clutching, and lifting.
All this might go so far as to excuse me for not paying nearly enough attention to the heavy breathing I heard coming from the roulette wheel set. And if not for the apparent sounds of twosets of rhythmic and intense respiration, I’d have walked into quite a performance. Common sense took over and just before I yanked back the closure of black curtains that surrounded all the stages, I withdrew my hand and stepped back.
But not quite quickly enough.
Panting Individual: “Anyone out there?”
Me: “Uh. No?”
Continually Panting Individual: “Is anyone out there?”
Me: “I’ll come back later.”
Still Panting Individual: “I don’t need anything.”
Me: “Evidently.”
Really Panting Individual: “What was that?”
Me: “I’ll go check on Steve and the Sleigh flying rig.”
Several animators wondered if production forgot about them that evening. I fled the scene and skipped a few stages, hoping that the independent buggers could get along without someone to fetch them 1” white camera tape for a night.
For a week I avoided the couple I speculated occupied Motel Oogie-Boogie on that particular evening. Not easy to do in a facility with 100 workers, all of whom knew each other right down to their personal lives. A conversation with a coworker or two about my possible voyeurism didn’t make it high on the list of things to do during the workday.
****
That particular Oogie-Boogie roulette wheel set had a curse on it. A few days after the Things Go Bump, Bump, Bump, Bump, Bump, Bump, Bump, Bump, Bump, Bump, Bump, Bump, Bump, Bump, Bump, Bump, Bump, Bump, Bump, Bump, Bump, Bump, Bump, Bump, Bump, Bump, Bump, Bump, Bump, Bump, Bump, Bump, Bump, Bump, Bump, Bump, Bump, Bump, Bump, Bump, Bump, Bump, Bump, Bump, Bump, Bump, Bump, Bump, Bump, Bump, Bump, Bump, Bump, Bump, Bump, Bump, Bump In The Night episode, one of our quantum physics degreed camera operators decided to drive their brand new motion control rig from Stage 1 to Stage 20.
In defense of our own Doctor Einstein, his next assignment did take place on Stage 20. However, driving a contraption of speed rail, welded metal plates, block and tackle from the 1700s ship-building industry, and a motorized Worrall head through the Escher-like construction of Skellington AT NIGHT however, might not have been the best plan. Throw in the duvetyne which wrapped everything on the stage floor in a black shroud of grim death and the only place more dangerous to take a spin on four wheels might be a Demolition Derby on ABC’s Wide World of Sports.
[Whoa! Look at that, Jim. Hunter McQueen just backed his Brinks Armored Vehicle overthe Yugo driven by the former Jimmy “The Bohunk” Abramowitz!]
[Yes that is something, John!]
But don’t let common sense interfere with a joyride in the middle of the night . . . on a pitch black studio floor . . . with hundreds of thousands of dollars of equipment and gear in the way . . . and millions of dollars of set pieces, props, and puppets on display.
The following is the chagrined personal account of said cameraman and the production assistant on rounds. I was not on duty that evening. Follow the layout of Skellington Studios below this posting.
The camera operator took off from Stage 1 and worked the Motion Control rig down one of the narrow alleyways on the studio floor. The stages did lay out in a surprising form of organized numbering. Stages 1 through 7 were on the right hand side of the studio as you drove from front to back, and Stages 8 through 13 sat on the left.
14 through 20, or the Auxiliary Stages, were in the far reaches of Skellington and defied such military regimentation. As such we had an overhead of the stages that I used until I memorized where they were. Several thousand trips to each working set will embed their whereabouts in your brain.
Back to the accident about to happen.
The motion control rig, far from street ready, managed to avoid any collisions, despite the lack of definition in the field of vision of the driver, until it got to near the end of its initial journey through the first thirteen stages. Just before the safety of open space, which lay just on the other side of the drapery that divided the two sets of stages, the motion control rig crashed into a corner of the Oogie-Boogie Roulette Wheel set.
A six inch protrusion of a corner of the set extended into the narrow alleyway. Invisible due to its camouflage of black duvetyne. An additional piece of plywood had been added to allow the animator to keep certain tools and materials close at hand.
Or, perhaps the amorous couple of a few nights back needed a little extra room to move around. We will never know.
Whatever the reason, the MoCon (That’s film lingo.) rig had inadvertently committed one of the several zillion cardinal sins of stop motion animation known as unnecessary or un-filmed movement.
It causes horrific things to happen when such events occur such as Oogie-Boogie moving six feet in perspective without any known purpose and against all the laws of physics. The shot, to this juncture, might be ruined.
The fallout and possible solutions.
1.     The animator can kill the camera operator and be found not guilty due to justifiable homicide. Also included would be the subsequent dismantling and melting down of the MoCon rig. The entire camera department would be forced to attend this event.
2.     The animator can commit suicide, greatly reducing his productivity ongoing.
3.     The shot, already 360 frames into a 720 frame extravaganza, can be restarted. This request would precipitate #2.
4.     Phil Lofaro works on a brilliant solution. He sends the finished 360 frames to Disney. They send back specs to line up the set in its original position. The animator starts from frame 361, and Disney’s editorial staff is prepared to make further micro adjustments in post.
Strangely, as much as we wanted to see the camera operator dispatched and the cursed MoCon rig turned into scrap, we opted for #4.
Courtesy Reminder: When I said Phil Lofaro could do anything, I was not joking. The shot continued on schedule. It finished on time and looked great. If another performance of the Posturepedic Polka occurred on the Oogie-Boogie set, I was not the one to hear it.
And really, you two. That Roulette Wheel had a surface like an Iron Maiden.
Ick.

"Has potential to become a great", "Makes me wonder" - These Rangers fans proved Gerrard wrong
Loads of Rangers fans have been running the rule over Sunday’s action, and they’re delighted with the form of Nikola Katic.
Rangers appeared to have found a centre back duo for the future at the beginning of this season, pairing the young and inexperienced Katic with the commanding leadership of Connor Goldson.
Barring a few rough patches, Goldson has been excellent throughout the campaign, but things have not gone so smoothly for Katic.
The young Croatian lost his place to Joe Worrall, much to fans dismay, and to say Worrall didn’t exactly impress would be an understatement.
Steven Gerrard has recently done what fans wanted all along though and brought Katic back in to partner Goldson, and the 22 year-old has not disappointed.
He won both penalties in the 2-0 win against Aberdeen on Sunday, and between he and Goldson they headed away absolutely every ball that the Dons lumped forward.
You can find some of the best Twitter reactions down below, where the fans have proved the gaffer’s earlier preference of Worrall to be dead wrong…
How good was Katic again today, he’s defo got his mojo back. Boy loves winning a header as well 😁👏🏼
— Cheryl (@gers_chezza) April 28, 2019
He has potential to become a great centre half his progress will flourish under Gerrard
— Carter73#ihatesellik (@Carter7314) April 28, 2019
Yeah glad he’s back, he should have got mom instead of goldson
— Sarah Mck (@sarahmen101) April 28, 2019
Much better than Worrall.
— Lisa HW (@Lisa_H_85) April 28, 2019
hes more aggresive when tackling the ball imo and when a high ball comes in I feel better knowing Katic is in the middle. Capable of scoring a goal or 2 as well.
— Alan McPhail (@almcp01) April 28, 2019
He was excellent today ??
— Mrs Amanda McNeish (@keiramc74) April 28, 2019
Big man was outstanding today and was a good shout for man of the match in my opinion.
— Menzies (@menzies999) April 28, 2019
He was excellent. Makes me wonder why he was dropped.
— Craig Logan (@legendsofibrox) April 28, 2019
Seeing the impact he has made since he got his starting slot back, it is difficult to understand what Gerrard saw better in Worrall that kept him sidelined for so long.

Every year I make a goal of it to read two books a month. Every year I make a list. I usually end there, but this year I thought I’d jot down some impressions of each book and post / share the list. Here you go! (The list is in the order I read the books).
1. Sails On The Horizon -- Jay Worrall, 284 pp
* This is the first of three books by Jay Worrall in a series of Royal Navy historical fiction in the vein of Patrick O’Brian or C. F. Forester. It doesn’t measure up to either of them, but it’s a fun read nonetheless. This first of the three is the better of the two I read this year.
2. Wanderer -- Sterling Hayden, 434 pp
* Sterling Hayden was a movie star in the golden age of Hollywood. He had a self destructive urge to chuck the career and go sailing in schooners. The book is well written, entertaining, but frustrating to watch as Hayden screws up his life, marriage and family. Fascinating insight into the HUAC hearings and the red scare. Great read.
3. Thinking Fast and Slow, Daniel Kahneman, 418 pp
* I need to read it again. There were so many deep insights in this book into how people think. Kahneman and his partner were the subjects of Michael Lewis’s most recent book, “The Undoing Project”. I haven’t read that one yet, but this one was one of the best I read this year.
4. In The Garden of Beasts -- Erik Larson, 365 pp
* Erik Larson writes good books. Years ago I read “Isaac’s Storm”, a gripping account of the worst natural disaster in US history, a hurricane that hit Galveston and killed 6000 people. This book puts you into the days leading up to the Nazis coming to power. The fascinating part is that you are in the heads of people who don’t yet know how the story is about to turn out, sort of like all of us today.
5. Essential Dutch Grammar -- Henry R. Stern, 84 pp
* Essential if you want to speak Dutch.
6. Any Approaching Enemy -- Jay Worrall, 274 pp.
* See above. Not as worth it as the first in the series.
7. Storm Passage: Alone Around Cape Horn -- Webb Chiles, 248 pp
* Webb Chiles is a serial solo circumnavigator in sailboats. He’s even done it in an open double masted canoe, I think. He writes pretty well about the experiences he’s had as well, and his books are available for download from his website. He’s part of what I’d call the “Cruiser’s Cannon”. If you’re interested in long distance journeying on a sailboat, read Webb Chiles along with the Pardey’s, Hal Roth, and some others.
8. Yes, Your Teen Is Crazy: Loving Your Kid Without Losing Your Mind -- Michael J. Bradley, 324pp
* This is less about what’s wrong with teen agers and more of a guild for how parents can adapt and adjust to the crazy emotional swings of these years. I think it helped me to read the book. It definitely pointed out many of the things I was doing wrong, some of them embarrassing and painful.
9. In het donker is het veilig -- Els Beerten, 79 pp
* My first book in Dutch! Els is Greet’s aunt, and a well known author of both young adult books and full-on adult novels (Els came in second a few years ago for the Dutch language version of the Pulitzer Prize called the Golden Owl for her book “Alemaal Willen We de Hemel”.
10. Satchmo: My Life in New Orleans -- Louis Armstrong, 240pp
* It was fun to read a book in Armstrong’s own words. His voice is strong. There’s not a super compelling narrative. It’s more like sitting at his knee and listening to him reminisce about the old days in New Orleans. The book stops before he goes on to achieve most of his fame and is more a litany of his early heroes among the marching band and jazz hall giants of the teens and twenties.
11. The Unbanking of America -- How The New Middle Class Survives -- Lisa Servon, 184 pp
* I mostly red this for work, but it was a good primer on understanding why and how banks and other traditional financial institutions are not working for about half of America. It’s a quick read. Informative.
12. Admiral Hornblower In The West Indies -- C. S. Forester, 342 pp
* The last of the Horatio Hornblower series. Wow! These books are great! Along with Patrick O’Brian, historical fiction at its best. I’m excited to go on and read other Forester books like “The African Queen”.
13. Wizard's First Rule -- Terry Goodkind, 820 pp
* I’ve hear about and seen Goodkind’s books for years in the fantasy section of bookstores. I’ve had them recommended to me. I think this was a bit too sadomasochistic for my tastes, kind of like what you might expect if Stephen Sagal took up writing about sorcerers and dragons. I won’t be reading more of his seemingly endless series of books.
14. Barbarian Days - A Surfing Life, William Finnegan, 447pp
* Finnegan’s writing can lay a great deal of claim to why we live in the Bayt Area and why I surf. He wrote an article in the early 90’s for the New Yorker called “Playing Doc’s Games” that I read and thought “I want that!” It described big wave surfing at Ocean Beach in San Francisco. It painted a picture of surfing as wild and cerebral way more of a calling than I had ever expected. The book is more melancholy than I thought it would be, and Finnegan has decidedly love-hate relation with the pursuit. It was a great book. Along with “Caught Inside” by Daniel Duane, I’d rank it as my favorite surfing book.
15. The Billionaire and the Mechanic -- Julian Guthrie, 336 pp
* This is the story of Larry Ellison’s multiple America’s Cup campaigns and of the involvement of the San Francisco Yacht Club. The book was a great window into sailboat racing, the history and maneuvers around the Cup. I think I understand it now. It is also a gripping blow-by-blow of the multiple campaigns. The book even managed to humanize Ellison a little bit.
16. Hillbilly Elegy -- J. D. Vance, 261 pp
* Lots of hype about this one. It would have been hard to live up to it. Call it “Angela’s Ashes of Ohio”. Part of my ambivalence is realizing that I come partly from the same stock as Vance. I called my grandparents “Mamaw and Papaw” too.
17. Sacred Hoops -- Phil Jackson and Hugh Delehanty, 224 pp
* Mindfulness and basketball. I ended up getting to know and liking Phil Jackson. The book wasn’t particularly well written, but it did provide a privileged perspective.
18. Body of Lies -- David Ignatius, 349 pp
* This is a great spy novel. At a company offsite this year we had Hank Crumpton, former head of counter terrorism under Bush 2 and bona fide spy for many years come speak with us. Someone asked which portrayal of spies in popular media comes closest to reality. He said David Ignatius.
19. A People's History of the United States --Howard Zinn, 688 pp
* The history of the US told from the perspective of women, slaves, Native Americans and the working class. It turns out we suck in many, many ways. There are high ideals on which the country was founded, but we’ve spent the majority of our history not nearly living up to those ideals. We’re still not today. This was a bear of a book to get through, but it felt important and edifying the whole time. Glad I read it. I wish we could do better as a country.
20. Around the World in Eighty Days -- Jules Verne, 297 pp
* It’s a classic! It still holds up to reading. The classics are classics for good reason.
21. Hyperion — Dan Simmons, 482 pp
* How did I go so long without knowing about this series from Dan Simmons!? Some of the best science fiction I’ve ever read, right up there with Asimov’s Foundation series or Ender’s Game, but with a deep injection of classic literature (Chaucer!!) and poetry (Keats and Yeats!!).
22. Single & Single — John Le Carré, 345 pp
* I love Le Carré. It is spy fiction, but quietly, masterfully and elegantly written. Read anything by him.
23. The Fall off Hyperion — Dan Simmons, 517 pp
* See above. The first book in the series is really the set up. This is the payoff. There are others, but these first two books provide a complete story arc.
24. Sad Cypress — Agatha Christie, 191 pp
* Timeless popcorn.
25. Stormy Weather — Carl Hiaasen, 400 pp
* Present-day popcorn. Hiaasen is a columnist at the Miami Herald. He pulls many of his story ideas from the actual news. His books are a riot, filled with whacky characters on crazy capers with antiheroes and the backdrop of swamps and gators.
26. Doctor No — Ian Fleming, 232 pp
* I’ve never read a Bond novel. I wanted to see where the movies came from. It was interesting from a historical perspective, but dated, racist, mysogenistgic, and contrived. The funny thing is that the movies seem to do better by taking it all further and taking it less seriously.

For Love or Money: Jos Vantyler as Arthur and Sarah-Jane Potts as Rose
The term ‘banker’ has long been a Cockney rhyme for a term that, if taken literally, means one who touches oneself. London’s Yorkshire counterparts have their own choice of words to describe Mr Fuller (Barrie Rutter), a bank branch manager skilled in exploiting his customers. For Love Or Money is entirely set in the 1920s and in the front room of Rose (Sarah-Jane Potts), a widow who has squandered the money her late husband left her by being generous to a fault, as Marlene (Jacqueline Naylor), the housekeeper, is at pains to point out. What was once a well-decorated house has now become rundown and bare: it is clear anything and everything of monetary worth has been sold off or given away.
The ground is therefore fertile for Fuller to impress her with a cheque for a substantial amount, and miscellaneous presents. A generous Yorkshireman who runs a bank is, to my London mind, highly improbable. But then, this being a play that doesn’t take itself too seriously, this is just as well. The preposterousness of Fuller, both in his character and in his manner, provides much amusement, even if just occasionally the humour becomes rather dark.
For the most part, however, the banter and the punchlines are light-hearted, and while Fuller may be flattering Rose with gifts galore, it slowly becomes clear that at least one gift was never really his to give. Arthur (Jos Vantyler) is also after money, assisted by Jack (a seemingly inexhaustibly energetic Jordan Metcalfe), who in turn has roped his girlfriend Lisa (Kat Rose-Martin) into certain schemes of his own.
The links between characters are revealed, layer by layer, until there are so many connections between people that it’s all far too coincidental to be credible. Again, this is part of the show’s appeal. In portraying the absurd, there’s much to be said about human faults, even in more plausible situations elsewhere.
The script (Blake Morrison) is clever and witty, and the inclusion of asides to the audience is a simple but effective device in further increasing interest and intrigue into proceedings. I cannot claim to have fully understood every word, such is the strength of the Yorkshire dialect in the play, nor can I vouch for the Yorkshire accent of every Yorkshire character (though not for nothing is the producing theatre company called Northern Broadsides). The gist of what was happening was always clear, however.
With justification, my fellow theatregoer thought Teresa (Sarah Parks), described in the show’s programme merely as ‘a visitor’, looked as though she were a panto dame. There were other moments in which the show bordered on having some of the characteristics of a pantomime, with over-elaborate forms of speech and certain mannerisms. Make of that what you will.
I found the general lack of sentimentality refreshing. The sheer number of plot twists makes the show fascinating. A fairly briskly-paced play, the plot is gloriously unpredictable (for the most part, anyway), and with everyone so human, and therefore fallible, it’s deliberately difficult for the audience to find someone – anyone – on stage to get behind. All things considered, this is a charming and cheerful production. One more thing: do stay to the end, if you at all can – the company’s curtain call dance is worth seeing.
Review by Chris Omaweng
It’s the 1920s. In a small Yorkshire town, the wily-widow, Rose (Sarah-Jane Potts, Waterloo Road; Holby City), entertains the advances of two dubious suitors. Fuller (Barrie Rutter) is a fabulously rich and morally corrupt banker who woos Rose by parading his wealth whilst hiding a few secrets. Handsome Arthur (Jos Vantyler) is much younger and deceitful through and through. He plays Rose for as much money as she can take from Fuller.
A love triangle then; a deliciously wicked tale of rivalry and greed.
Throw in a bailiff (Jordan Metcalfe), a drunkard, a vamp, a second-hand clothes dealer and two upwardly mobile servants, and the complications multiply.
Adapted from Alain-Rene Lesage’s savage eighteenth-century comedy Turcaret, Blake Morrison’s For Love or Money is a story of monstrous wealth and whopping lies.

People With Rhesus Negative Blood May Be Aliens
Acid for Blood - Alien: Resurrection (1997)
Studies conducted on rhesus negative blood types show that they are missing the Rhesus factor, a protein substance present in the red blood cells of other humans.
Theories suggest that people with Rhesus negative (RH) blood may be from outside this world.
Others suggest they are fallen angels from the heavens above or they belong to an alien race from somewhere in the vast darkness of space.
What is clear is that those who have with Rhesus (RH) negative blood are different and unique.
A person who has RH negative O blood is able to serve as a donor to any person regardless of their blood type. But if they need blood, only their own type will suffice.
They represent 15% of the human race and are mostly from northern Europe.
The four common blood types of today include A, B, AB and O. The differences between each blood type is dependent on the proteins in the blood, but when it comes to RH negative blood types, which make up about 10 to 15 percent of the population, they don’t have these proteins.
The question that is on the minds of scientists now, is where this group of RH negative blood type people originates from. Looking back about 35,000 years, scientists believe that the blood type is linked to specific tribes and groups. Europeans have the greatest incidence of this blood type, but only 3% of African-Americans have it, and only 1% of Asian people have it.
Some common characteristics of people with this blood type include having a higher IQ, having a lower body temperature, having more awareness (physically and emotionally), having red hair, being sensitive to heat, and having blue, green or hazel colored eyes.
This blood type is shrouded in even more mystery when we look at pregnant women. RH negative women who become pregnant have difficulty delivering a baby with an RH positive blood type, as their bodies naturally attack and try to kill the fetus. Thus, they are given a special sterilized solution. (Anti-D or  RHo (D) immunoglobulin)
But, why would the woman’s body attack the offspring it’s been helping give life to?
This is where a relatively new theory comes in and suggests that it’s possible alien life has influenced this blood type. What’s even stranger is that almost every person who has reported being abducted by (or interacted with) aliens has the RH negative blood type.
It’s certainly very possible that aliens visited our planet, as they’ve done for centuries, and somehow tooled around with the genetics of mankind. After all, history from all over the world has shown time and time again, through ancient texts and depictions, that we’ve been visited by beings not of this world.
What do you think about the blood type that is missing a key link to evolutionary humans? Could it be that some of us have alien blood running through our veins?
Angela Bruce
Er, no. Rhesus negative people cannot donate to “anyone, regardless of blood type” ! Only O neg can do that. B- can give to AB+ , AB- , B+ & B- but not O+ or O-; A- can give to AB+ , AB- , A+ & A- but not O+ or O-.
Margaret Worrall
Read it again, he said ‘A person who has RH negative O blood is able to serve as a donor to any person regardless of their blood type. But if they need blood, only their own type will suffice.’
Angela Bruce
It was edited after I made the comment.

Libby

You have no idea how in aw I am.
Dee Angott
No. You really don’t. True statement, very!
Penny Mayes
Are we supposed to believe this stuff when so much of it is wrong? RH neg women are not sterilised – my first born was RH positive, her sister RH negative, both now in their 30s with children of their own.
amfrancis2
I was given rogan shots during my first, my second and third pregnancies and after because both 1st and 2nd were positive, but because I was fixed after the 3rd I didn’t need a shot even though she was positive.
kim
I has 17 shots with my second. I almost died! I lost so much blood I passed out. There was so much blood on the bed it looked like a horror movie. I passed out on the toilet. I’m sure it was a lovely sight.
Margaret Worrall
He didn’t mean sterilized the way you took it. It was the wrong word to use. They are given an injection of antibodies to prevent the baby being rejected. It is usually only necessary with the first pregnancy.
Lisa K Gregg
Actually it is during all pregnancies if the spouse if positive blood type or blood type unknown. Also it would be 2 shots, one about half way through just in case the babies blood gets in your blood stream and after delivery they test the baby right away and if the baby is positive you get another shot to make sure if any of the babies blood got in you during birth you don’t develop the anti-bodies. I am 0 Neg and had to have the first shot twice. Both my kids are negative luckily.
Margaret Worrall
I am O neg my partner was O pos. I have four children, I had the shot after my first child was born only. so No it isn’t always with all pregnancies.
Jessie Robinette
Incorrect. It’s the subsequent pregnancies that are at risk, because the mother’s body builds the antibodies due to that initial incompatibility.
kim
I’m Rh neg and I had a miscarriage before my first and second child. I have learned that only O pos men can get me pregnant AND that I am only attracted to O pos men. Weird huh. My kids like to remind me that I was supposed to have 4 kids (mostly when they are being annoying lol).
Angela
i have had the same thing happen to me.All three of my surviving children are o poss, and so is my husband.
kim
I had a suspicion that was what was going on. My son was allergic to my breast milk.
John Merrick
We all know where this propaganda is heading.. kill Whitey.
Expect to see more of this type of garbage as Whites slide into minority status, everywhere they have made their homes.
Xavier McHenry
I’d kill ya for being a redneck retard making the white race look bad with fucktard comments like the one you just made. lol! But that’s about the only place anything is headed to kill white people. Dipshit.
Margaret Worrall
You are the one trying to turn this into propaganda, Stop hatemongering you moron!
Karen Barnes
The article does not properly explain blood cell genetics. O Rh negative blood types are the universal donor. They have no antigens on the surface of their blood cells. This means that antibodies are not formed towards these cells. However A, B and AB and Rhesus positive blood types will cause the O neg type person to mount a response to kill the cells and these types cannot be used for transfusion or the O neg patient will die. In the case of an O Rh neg mum and Rh pos baby the mum’s body begins to create antibodies to the baby as its blood is like any invader. Mums are given an injection of Anti D antibodies which ” mop up” the baby’s cells in her system so that her body doesn’t form antibodies which will remain to attack the next baby. “Blue babies” were common prior to 1966 when this “vaccine” was first used. AB and Rh pos genes are dominant and will manifest in a baby when one parent is positive. As to aliens, they must have had greyhound dogs as pets because they are the canine universal donor!
Margaret Worrall
It wasn’t meant as a genetics lesson, just an explanation of a theory.
Rebecca Wildsmith
Glad you talked about the O Rh neg mum & the problem only arising with the 2nd child, as that was what made me want to comment on. Maybe it was a ‘weird’, ancient form of natural contraception within their blood type? I’m writing stories here! Probably because I’m O Rh neg! I read years ago in a National Geographic magazine that O Negs possibly came from the island of Atlantis. The ‘population’ with the highest level of O Neg people is the Basque Country. I also have Basque blood & green eyes. I found the protein thing very interesting… Is that why I’m often cold?
Barbara Bush
Something many people don’t know is that a Type O (and in my personal case O positive) female can have the same experience when having a baby with type A, B or AB blood as well. When I gave birth to my 3rd son (the second one born with Type A positive) He had to be treated just as a baby with a positive blood type would be treated if born to an Rh negative mom. There is no vaccine or treatment for this specific anomaly. In the days of less modern medicine, I would have lost this child within 3 days of his birth.
Xavier McHenry
I would laugh my ass off over this, but I have to take into account that there is more proof that aliens exist and are doing weird things with us than there is God existing…in fact there is no proof whatsoever that a god exists save in written fear propaganda from the time.
Jacqui Killick
Classified documents have started being released lately confirming first contact, and the Vatican has gone so far as stating that alien theories do not interfere with their beliefs. Makes me wonder if they will then reveal their possession of the giant skeletons in their possession, those excavated in the 1700’s … But when I wonder will the USA finally admit publicly that they have had contact? I have been researching some of the classified information in these past months, thinking that the USA cannot maintain their secrecy for too much longer.
Nolan Bad Heart Bull
I am from Pine Ridge, SD. I am of Lakota Sioux decent and I believe the RH Negative Blood types are of Alien decent…I was told by someone, who I have GREAT RESPECT for, that the Aliens that came long ago (and are still here/around today) are a precursor of us and that they have tried to fix their DNA because they are dying out. The truth of the matter is; The RH Negative blood types are the ones who were and are descendants of those who were abducted by the Aliens that have tried to fix their DNA. Just know they are watching. Legend has it that we are in the Fourth (4th) world. The First (1st) was ruled by Black man, which like nowadays, who prospered and greed became rampant. Then their world was destroyed by Fire. The second (2nd) world was ruled by the Yellow man, same story, prospered and greed set in. The 2nd was destroyed by Ice. The Third (3rd) was ruled by the Red man. Same story, prospered and greed set in and the 3rd was destroyed by water. Now we are in the 4th world, as you may have noticed the prosper and now the greed of people and nations are becoming more and more detrimental to this planet. The Legend has said this 4th world will be destroyed by all the past three worlds; Fire, Ice, and Water not in that order but you can think of melting ice, nuclear weapons, and the afterm athletes of the Nukes being used will be Cold weather possible ice age!!! Get in touch with your inner being and spirit because you might come back after you die.
Janet Witt
You have any ideas how I can get ready.Seems everything I have ever known was just a big fat lie.
TexasOlTimer
My granddaughter saw this article and sent me the link telling me “YOU IS AN ALIEN!” Yup, if the article is right. I always thought I was just strange! 🙂 (and no comments on her grammar – she was just showing that it’s a fun article).
Angela
Hi there i,m a RHS O,i have red hair and hazel eye,s,both my parents had a different blood type to my own. My mother was an O poss, and my father was A poss.So on that alone means that at least one of them would have to be an alien to have me.And before people say that they were,nt my parents. They were.
Mandiii Hammond
You have 2 blood factors in your blood and you get one from each parent. If O is positive and o is negative, your mum would be Oo and your dad would be Ao. You could of been any number if blood types but for you, you got a double negative oo, one from each parent
Jimmy
Trash. Can’t explain the specifics of something? Must be aliens. Probably not the first thing to jump to.
Libby
are you trying to say i am not an alien! 🙁
Nicolette Meyer
Some of my neighbours used to think I was – but they were just b***y racists!
imast
It’s a theory, as clearly stated with “may be” not “must be”. In real science ALL theories should be investigated equally and without prejudice, regardless of what makes you uncomfortable, or we would never learn anything. Did you know the Earth is round and orbits the sun yet? That was crazy not long ago also. Unless you have more to offer than trashy troll comments why bother? You can do that on youtube, imdb, facebook etc.
angie
I am O neg RH neg. I had the shot with my first one while pregnant and never again. Luckily my husband is also RH neg so it wasn’t necessary. I was told I would need it during and after every pregnancy if he was positive as each pregnancy would be more dangerous than the the one before. As for the donor part, a person with O neg Rh neg can donate to anyone with negative blood types, especially the Rh neg groups. O positive Rh positive can donate to anyone with positive blood types, again especially the Rh positive groups. O blood is the universal donor but you still need to be careful with the positive and negative parts and the Rh factor. If you give a Rh neg person a blood transfusion from a Rh positive universal donor, especially a woman, it is risking her chances of being able to have a child. As for the alien part, come on. If they cant figure something out the first thing they say is “Alien related”. Give me a break.
now days are different in pregnancy. ladies are forced to get the shot. I know cause my husband and I are both rh negative and I didn’t have a choice on the shot. I try getting out of it last year and they gave me a choice of getting the shot or I was out on not having an ob doctor. all 4 of my children are rh negative.
Rebecca Wildsmith
Your 4 children could only be Rh negative as both parents are. A child can only be the same blood type as the mother or the father, they can’t be anything else. That’s what I was taught.
jan v
Rebecca Wildsmith
Obviously assumed paternity. Years ago, many ‘parents’ found out a child was not their’s through blood testing.
Dirty_Martini
You should have called a lawyer, because this was sheer medical malpractice. You may end up one day later with an autoimmune disorder, because giving an unnecessary BayRHO or RhoGAM shot suppresses a woman’s immune system for the rest of her life.
Jessie Robinette
The reason you were given the shot as a precaution is because the medical staff will not assume paternity. You and your husband may both be negative, but there is a chance that one’s spouse is not the bio father, and the bio father may be rh +. That is why clinics now often give rh – women the Rhogam shot as a precaution. It could be dangerous for the fetus not to do so, in the event of paternity being different than what is presented. My OBGYN was actually very upfront about this practice. They won’t risk a potential incompatibility issue simply because they’re potentially operating under false paternity info.
jan v
O- can donate to both – and +
Socks McRockin
I think it’s more likely that it was a harmless/benign mutation that took hold in Northern Europe. We have huge amounts of evidence that genetic mutation happens, whereas the evidence for alien life is less established.
jan v
possibly the winters were less harsh on people with lower body temps and that’s why that type survived better in that climate same goes with any different types maybe an AB+ with a higher body temp did better in hotter climes and were naturally more hardy there
Janet Witt
It’s weird I have everything they said Rh people have blue eyes sensitive to heat etc. but I am O- weird.
Laird-Jon
I’ve always thought my wife was strange but now I know she’s only an alien.
Bruce Wayne
Well, damn, why don’t the aliens send me the lottery numbers telepathically?
Manie
Other neurological effects of toxo infection are thought to include neuroticism. Rhesus – is greatest in Europe, where exposure to toxo, from wild cats was (originally) low compared to other geographic regions. In comes the domestic cat and exposure is now much higher. ‘Maybe the reason all the alien abductes are Rh- is actually a manifestation of the negative neurocognitive effects of toxo infection which are significantly greater in Rh- phenotypes. I.e. Your article is a load of total rubbish.

I’m A-. The characteristics the article speaks on are spot on.
Truth-Teller
Another Racist propaganda article out here made to make out “African Americans” and any relative thereof as being dumb and Europeans aka White people as the superior intellectual race. This shit is getting sad.. It makes Asians out to have 1% of the “GOD-LIKE” blood type yet again implying they aren’t as intellectual as Europeans…when in all actuality, Every damn thing is made in china and Asian people are masters in mental intellect and projection. Most statistics regarding new inventions and elder inventions..White people have stolen from other races and Claimed it as there own…yet again creating lies to white-wash the entire globe…making europeans out to be something they’re not. This is very sad…when a bunch of self-centered racist journalist, novelist come together to spread untruth.
Bram Rhys Swarr
what the fuck are you on about, blood has nothing to do with intelligence… if statistically accurate data is all it takes to claim racism then its a problem with you.
Libby
yes every darn thing is made in China and it breaks within 5 minutes of getting it home! and that is not being racist it saying they make things on the cheap and their crap. If you see racism in this article then you are more racist than the average racist. Why oh why do people keep showing the racist card all the time even when they are totally wrong. honestly…grw up mun!
Dirty_Martini
Stop race baiting here, and blame it on the Nazis… they discovered Rh negative blood in 1937. And there are many blacks with Rh-Neg blood. President Obama is AB-Negative.
Steven
Just because Asians are making damned near everything does not make them super geniuses. That which they make we whites invented and that makes us special .
Bram Rhys Swarr
don’t we all wish it were aliens, only our primitive, bloodthirsty species could not handle it. see the opening for the episode “In A Mirror, Darkly” in Star Trek Enterprise.
Libby

I was born with RH negative blood and it was killing me so I had to have a complete transfusion when I was about an hr. old. My Rh negative was killing me so How do people survive the first hrs of their lives without deadly consequences?

There is no such thing as a rhesus blood antigen group Rhesus is a kind of monkey that was experimented on along with rodents when trying to discover clinically significant blood group antigens The Rh (not short for rhesus!) blood group consists of 3 genes that code for D, then E, e, C, c antigens, and a protein that ensures their correct expression If this gene is missing due to deletion the they are Rh null and cannot express any of the above antigens The author appears to be talking about the D antigen only There are also other clinically significant blood group antigens that may be present on their cell surface which can cause HTR or HDFN other than D! Stop writing absolute nonsense!

I’m A RH Negative, guess that makes me an Alien lol

Are you barmy? I do not believe in Angels, fallen or otherwise. I don’t think I’m an alien either. I adore the sun and often flee Europe for the heat in the winter. I am a brunette with green eyes. Am O Rh -. Unfortunetly can’t donate as am taken medication.
Terry Larch
This is rather interesting, however if you are searching for alien and UFO stories stop by our site sometime at:
