#LOVE the retro comic book page texture!!!
your mutuals as aesthetics ?
Hello, Anon. Thank you for this absolutely wonderful ask. If I missed you or you'd like me to do you, just let me now! Let's see:
@biganimeaesthetictree: retro futurism. Game boys of every age, controllers with wires spread around on a fluffy bed. It's not messy but highly precise. Chocolate flavoured milk in coffee cups, spreadsheets of an ever growing YT channel, monitor set against New York Skyline. Unused guitar in a corner of the room, entirety of MHA mangas shelved in order. Edits and edits of his own mangas and comics, working till the sun goes up. Mail chock full with stuff from friends and fans.
@somethingpretentiouss: bitter orange cake with buttercream frosting and topped with crumbs. Clear transparent everyday stuff with cursive quotes. Black bomber jacket set against lavender tulle skirt, multicolored mosaic notebook with a well worn ukelele. Foggy mornings and lazy afternoons. Faint smell of traditional marigold-patchouli-rose mixed with moss and wildberries. Unending blue sky. A person in her own right, lives like that one light blue butterfly you once saw but can never forget.
@chaoticneutralcinnamonroll: Cinnamon and ginger, mixed into bronzed teas. Gold tipped cups, multitude of magazines and newspapers. Air charged with zangy energy, almost blaring punk and rock. Well worn snickers and side sling bags. Goes onto adventures due to intelligence, laughs hard, loves long and fierce. Toes the lines never even touched. Silver jewellery. Loves the sun. Simple yet almost paradoxical. Lives on her own terms. Coconut scented perfume and handful of Doritos.
@weirdkindoflove: reads multiple books at the same time, will mix up words from different languages. Loves Dante and tells everyone how it is the oldest fanfiction, has the nicest gloss and notebooks chock full of equations. A maths whizz, warmest hugs, is the embodiment of sense of security. A determined ally, least person you'd expect to meet in a protest, strongest and most resilient person you ever knew. Multiple neon vintage posters, Spiderman comics, and corded bracelets. Revolution in carbon-based life form.
@screechingnightchild Monster drinks, wears a lot of black. Unflinchingly human and inexplicable. Can beat you in a theology debate, anytime, anywhere. Sometimes feels like a forest god. Long bus rides, some handmade luck charms made by their friends on their backpack. Drinks Coca-cola in the glass bottle itself for aesthetic. Knack for finding sinners in places of worship. Should always be loved and appreciated, as is the most likely to fist fight god and win.
@tuliharja Kind, appreciative soul with the nervous system and skeleton made of steel. Feeds birds from her cookies. Pastel coloured shirts and hair in shades not yet discovered. Has a knitted Halloween pumpkin, loves reading lore. Is the person who gets called to the hospital when her friends get hurt. Changes the world and lives with a flick of her hand and doesn't realize it. Home-made mead and fleshy fruits. Cats, specifically lynx figurines. Freshly baked fruit pies and herbal infusions. Soft classical tunes that you have to strain to hear, canvases filled with color, opened bottles of turpentine. Her existence is what magic is made of.
@narut-oh-shit : fluffiest jackets imaginable. Knows politics down to its woven fibres. Unknown and rare comics, metallic earpods, unbreakable metal bottles. Probably 1.47 GB of memes in their RAM. Wry wit, and a soul made of fire crackles. Has a plethora of diverse acquaintances. Perpetually broke college student with mad editing skills, sends in the most well written essays and analyses. Has sticky, fruit flavoured balms, and an almost definite goal in life. Rice crackers spilled on their lap, and ink spills on their desk. Shades of mahogany, cheap mechanical pencils kept with metal-bodied proper pens. Most likely to dimension hop.
@psycho-mocha : Boba with jaggery, star themed wall papers. Loves the texture of velvet, and owns posters or merchandise of their favourite brand. Has dedicated shelf space for fantasy genre, and is fascinated by sleight of hand. Wraps the string of ballons on their wrist, and feels oddly connected to certain historic monuments. Dreams of cool, refreshing river which tastes like mint, sometimes of midnight with a shovel and dirt under their nails. Feels a sense of longing when they think about their likes. Hits back xenophobes at every chance.
@microwavedsaladisevil : looks for their favorite childhood book in shops, stores and fairs. Lives in a treehouse with iced tea and peaches. Share oranges with friends during bus rides, wants to take a train across countries. Has chains of daisy and lilies, hates capitalism. Knows ocean like it's her hometown, records it's lores long forgotten. Will intern at marine facility on an island, and hates people polluting the water. Feels as if their heart crumbles like paper, and keeps stones as paper weights. Will dive head first into the water and come out surfing at the other end. Something about them screams victorious.
@oscarwildeismyidol jangly bracelets, sits under the tree. Embodiment of hope and positivity. Steadfast, and looks into the void to find secrets. Knows obscure trivia about Wilde, writes the most humorous book reviews. Flavoured drinks hit the back of their throats, idly they wonder the meaning of life. Achieves and achieves but at the cost of no one, presses flowers and leaves into books. Walks barefoot on wooden floors, and loves watching the sun in early mornings. Wears plaid in Autumnal evenings, sips tea and watches the world turn. Fears disenchantment. Has the most compelling smile, and as long as they be, they know it's going to be alright.
@notyouraveragejulie : makes the best potato salads, wears her adventures and achievements as a jacket. Walks into vintage stores chock full of opera memorabilia and assorted knickknacks, always befriends the monsters living upstairs. Sketches down frescoes on the roof of theatre, works part-time and is never disappointed by the night. Pages and pages of music scores and books fluttering with plays, computer idling with a paused opera. Writes down neatly the plans to conquer the world, and she will. Just after finishing this cast's version of her favorite opera. Listens to the magical flute while washing dishes, and feels the nervous flutter and maddening hum of life. Never makes a wrong choice.

Capsule Reviews April 2021
A few of the things that I've been reading over the past couple of months. I surprised myself when I noticed that most of these were indie books, but that's probably because all of my needs for big dumb superhero comics are currently being more or less covered by the material I'm reading for my podcast, Regarding Spawn. Anyway, here's some review.
Grenade by Will Kirkby
Grenade is in many ways an art showcase, a vibrant little volume centered on a world somewhat along the lines of Shadowrun, a cyberpunk setting with fantasy elements. The story focuses on a main character somewhat typical for the cyberpunk genre, a traumatized transhuman war veteran turned cop, haunted by their memories as they are drawn into a web of conspiracy tracing back to their wartime experiences. The story is hardly surprising, but this is a book that you read for the texture, not the plot. Grenade is gorgeous, jam packed with detail in the maximalist tradition of artists like Geoff Darrow but with an angular, punk edge, and the world building and concepts are all fun and have great hooks. There are certain ideas introduced at tossed aside that I wished to see a bit more of, but overall it's a very satisfying cyberpunk flavoured romp that would be well worth it for the art alone.
Home Time Vols. 1-2 by Campbell Whyte
Stand By Me by way of Over the Garden Wall, if put in reductive terms, I picked up the conclusion to Campbell Whyte's stellar first volume of the series and recently had the chance to read them back to back. They're excellent, maybe some of the best comics I've read this year, stellar YA material with a bold, experimental style and great storytelling. Centering on four friends about to graduate from middle school and go their separate way, the characters are suddenly caught up in a strange fantasy world with no way back home and the story focuses on how they cope with this as they gradually learn more about the world. The kids all feel like kids (or at least how I remember being a kid), the worldbuilding is really unique and off-kilter, fleshed out by loads of journal inserts ranging from photos to diary entries, to a handmade encyclopedia right out of Gravity Falls. The art is stellar, sticking to a general cartoon-y aesthetic but jumping back and forth through various styles of coloring and rendering with each viewpoint character, including sections rendered in a pixelated style which evokes a great deal of nostalgia for me as someone who grew up reading sprite-based webcomics. Some of the plot beats might not surprise you, but others probably will, and I can't recommend checking this out enough.
The Grot by Pat Grant
Another Australian book, not that I've been on a kick or anything. The Grot is quite excellent, a sort of "low post-apocalyptic" story set in a world littered with the detritus of our own. The world building is a treat, lived in and recognizably plausible but strange; cars and boats are powered by low wage laborers on pedals, electricity and running water are unheard of, cholera runs rampant, and anyone and everyone is partaking in an algae-based gold rush. The Grot is very much a gold rush story, and indeed about the biggest criticism I could make about it is that it could just as easily be set in any given historical gold rush with little effect on the narrative, the conceit of a post-lapsarian world is hardly taken advantage of, but then perhaps that's the point, "the more things change, the more they stay the same" and all that. The story itself is a classic one of ambition and confidence games, following two young brothers who arrive in a boom town with plans to be the only ones not getting suckered. The artwork and colors are vibrant and distinct, a loose, cartoonist's touch which nevertheless manages to make everything look distinctly real and absolutely filthy. Everyone is ugly and dirty, dressed in distinct clothes, cutting distinct profiles, looking real and alive, even if Grant doesn't pursue a photorealistic style. I'd recommend it for those looking for something different from the standard action oriented fair coming out from most major American publishers, but not sold on art comics. The Grot is a great read packed with story and personality.
Sazan and Comet Girl by Yuriko Akase
Coming out in 2018, right in the meat of Wife Guy culture, and preceding the rise of himbos by two years, Sazan and Comet Girl is a book well suited to the moment. It's about a nice, not entirely bright young man pursuing a Cool Girl across the stars as they fall in love. It's also, in fairness, Sazan and Manic Pixie Dream Girl in some ways, though it holds off the worst of that genre by characterizing Sazan primarily through the lens of sincere enthusiasm and support for his much cooler, more powerful love interest. It's a distinctly fun, peppy book, that's really gorgeously rendered, with full lush water colours on every page and a design sensibility firmly in line with retro-anime. It's not entirely without points to criticize, the titular Comet Girl spends the entire book rarely wearing more than bra and a pair of brave Daisy Dukes, and the trick employed throughout the final sequence of the book, which takes up the entire back half (the pacing is also a touch off) to get the whole universe cheering for the heroes is a little cheap. But overall Sazan and Comet Girl is really charming, it's cute, incredible to look at, just a little horny, and a fun adventure. I heartily recommend it.
PTSD by Guillaume Singelin
I'd had this sitting in my To-Read pile because I wanted to take some time between reading Grenade and this book, since there are quite a few superficial similarities between the two: they're both sci-fi adjacent, they both star traumatized veterans, both are lushly rendered by indie cartoonists, so reading them back to back would have felt like a disservice. For the record, they're ultimately not similar at all. PTSD is the story of Jun, a traumatized war veteran living on the streets of an unidentified city, pushing away all attempts at help or community as she slowly spirals downward, killing drug dealers to fuel her addiction to pain pills. One thing that stands out to me about PTSD tonally and about its main character is that it's willing to let Jun be really unpleasant in a meaningful way. Jun isn't an "asshole" because she's too much of a hard drinkin', hard fuckin' badass, she's an asshole because she's so deeply traumatized that she lashes out verbally and physically at anyone who comes near her. It feels unglamourous and real in a really enjoyable way.The art is also a revelation, it doesn't quite cross the line into Geoff-Darrow-insired visual maximalism, but every panel and ever inch of the pages are packed with lovingly rendered detail. Singelin's drawing style tends more towards cartooning than pseudo-realism, in a way that makes the charming moments utterly charming and the brutal moments appropriately shocking. I have some minor issues with the ending, the story kind of cuts out without really delving into the messy implications and the long tail to Jun's conflict with the drug dealers, and there's a touch of action movie logic in that the main character is alone among the veterans in her trauma having left her as a kind of towering badass rather than one of society's victims, but putting those aside PTSD is a really satisfying story about trauma and community.

Screen printing artists.
Marc Lawrence
Lawrence is an American abstract artist who does does a variety of different art such as paintings, collage and sculpture, film installation and screen printing. He is a very experimental artist who is willing to try new processes and techniques, helping to broaden his ideas. All his work involves building up lines, shapes and marks, with much consideration for placement. Although Lawrence is very particular and precise with his work, it gives off the overall impression of effortless and free flowing art. He tends to use a lot of bold eye-catching colours and layering of images to create a scene which is what inspired us in our screen printing lesson today. The use of colour and contrasting shades with clear shapes and lines makes for a very successful and effective screen print. Lawrence’s work links in with our overall theme of multiverse because he is interested in place, myths, parallel lives and identities, all of which link in with multiverses. Mark has said that some of his work has been influenced by renaissance work and he likes taking old art and putting his own modern spin on it. I really love his work for it’s boldness and carefreeness and how each piece is unique, suggesting he is an unpredictable artist, which creates some excitement for the viewer because it is unknown what he will make next.

Linda Zacks
I have already done research on Linda Zacks, however, that was mostly for her word art and not her screen prints. It is no secret that Zack’s loves to use a bright and bold colour palette to catch the eye of the viewer. Her street-art style is very unique which is why i think she is such a successful artist. Each piece she creates is an explosion of texture and colour refined along the way. Sometimes Linda also likes to use stencils on top of her art to add an extra layer, her art is far from simple, as she enjoys covering the whole canvas creating effective hectic work. In an interview in 2016, Zacks said that she loves  working by hand because of the messiness, unpredictability, accidents, smells and textures. She said that she loves the strength of black-and-white imagery and strong splats of colour straight out of the ink bottle. She never mixes paint as she admires its naked intensity. Zacks is often influenced by her surroundings which is evident from her colour choices and images. She could see something minutes before she begins her work, and it would remain on her mind so she would have to include it. Her screen prints inspired us to experiment with colour and detail, refining our final prints using different mediums.

Artists that I have found:
Chuck Sperry
Sperry is an American screen print artist who is well known for his vibrant and bold prints in the style of rock posters. The majority of his work, if not all, features a female figure as the centre of attention, as he completely fills the page with patterns, shapes and floral images. His work draws you in and takes you to a new place, almost like the women in his art, are immersed in a fresh world of nature, where everything is bright, colourful and good. This links in with our theme of multiverse, with the idea of there being many universes, each one being completely different and unique. Chuck likes to do his work on various surfaces such as wood, tapestries, paper and even went to see how each handmade tapestry was created . He likes using tapestries because they're historical and he thought it would be interesting to bring them back to life and reinvent the ancient art of tapestry, adding his own spin on it, featuring beautiful and divine feminine characters suggesting that he is a proud feminist, appreciating women in all their glory. Someone who has inspired Sperry from the start is Frank Stack, whose monochrome comic book work tells a narrative, very different from the style of Chuck Sperry. I think Sperry’s use of colour is outstanding, as each piece works so well, with no colour clashing and his work slightly reminds me of the story of Adam and Eve. I absolutely love Sperry’s work for it’s connection between humans and nature, creating a sense of movement with their hair blowing in the wind, making the viewer feel joyous and free.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ben Rider
Rider is a British artist who specialises in screen prints and illustrations. His work is very vibrant and vivid almost reminding me of pop art. Rider tends to build his work up from a dense layer of drawings, collages and lots of colour, creating “edgy work with a punky look and feel.” He loves counterbalancing throughout his work, using fades and drips in order to create an authentic  distressed look. Rider’s eye-catching and visually pleasing work explores themes of abstractionism and surrealism, using quirky and bizarre images to tell a narrative. For his screen prints, he uses a technique where he draws an initial illustration and then he prints it out in the final size that he wants his screen print to be. He then tacks this to a Lightbox with tracing paper on top and begins to fill in sections using brush and ink, for the areas he wants coloured. He uses Indian ink and a worn out brush to keep a hand made look and feel to make his work more ‘his’. He repeats this process multiple times for each colour he wants, making sure to tape each layer of tracing paper to the printed out image so that when he prints it, the areas he's coloured in are the right shape and position. He then begins printing, starting with the lightest colour and finishing with the darkest one. His work almost reminds me of retro skate posters with its weird and wonderful images, looking fun and exciting, attracting the eye of teen viewers. He is an artist who is not afraid to make mistakes, addressing social issues and communicating messages throughout his work, gaining inspiration from various artists such as David Shrigley who does simple black and white comical illustrations. Rider’s work is inspiring for its chaos and bizarreness, reiterating that ‘the sky is the limit’, his work linking in with our theme of multiverse because of it’s unusualness and otherworldly nature, showing that art can be whatever you want it to be.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dogboy
Dogboy (Phil Huntington) is a screen print artist who produces magnificent colourful worlds, almost like dreams. For his art he incorporates illustration, screen printing and digital techniques e.g. Photoshop. His work reminds me of the various worlds from Rick and Morty who travel between normal life and inter-dimensional adventures. Dogboy’s work is very detailed and purposeful with lots of bright colours, including a lot of neon and it has a psychedelic nature to it. This links in with our theme of multiverse because Dogboy is quite literally creating multiverses within his art, telling fantastic narratives, allowing the viewer to interpret his art however they want to. His screen prints contain various colours which means he has to do lots of layers, some consisting of 9 layers or more! This is a time consuming process but the final outcome is worth it. His alternate reality art captures dystopia and surrealism both in one, combining them to create intergalactic worlds and characters. His art is like a parallel universe where colours are opposite, he uses bright contrasting colours where dull shades would usually be this creates curiosity within the audiences mind, because it is out of the ordinary and uncommon. Dogboy is very inspiring because it encourages young artists to think outside the box and explore the realms of creativity.

ET Obsessions: The Weeknd’s New Album, Sandra Oh on ‘Killing Eve’ and More!
Why We’re Obsessed With The Weeknd’s ‘My Dear Melancholy,’
After returning to the Billboard charts earlier this year with “Pray for Me,” a song from the Black Panther soundtrack, The Weeknd made some lemonadeof his own, dropping a surprise EP full of hints about a relationship gone sour. My Dear Melancholy, is only six tracks, but packs plenty of angst amid its sharp beats and the singer’s signature falsetto, leading many fans to speculate that several of the tracks were written about the soulful singer’s ill-fated 2017 relationship with Selena Gomez. The opening song, “Call Out My Name,” bemoans a romance that left The Weeknd feeling like “just another pit stop,” while the Skrillex-produced “Wasted Times” laments that the new love “wasn’t half of you” in not-so-subtle, NSFW shout-outs to an “equestrian” ex, which very possibly refers to horse lover Bella Hadid. Whether you’re in it for the drama, or just the jams, The Weeknd’s new offering hearkens back to his stellar breakthrough album, Beauty Behind the Madness, with all the swooning synths and lovesick lyrics that sent him triple-platinum in the first place.
My Dear Melancholy, is now streaming.
Why We’re Obsessed With Wolverine
While Hugh Jackman may have retracted his claws for the final time in Logan, the superhero has leapt off the page again this year in Marvel’s first-ever scripted podcast series, Wolverine: The Long Night. The show’s synopsis reads: "Following a string of mysterious deaths in Burns, Alaska, Special Agents Sally Pierce and Tad Marshall arrive to investigate. They soon find there’s more going on than meets the eye.” Richard Armitage (a reliable voice performer) portrays the titular character in this original tale that feels like it could easily be retro-adapted into a comic book run. Full of intrigue and suspense, sound designers have done an amazing job transporting listeners into the story by providing each scene with its own ambiance and texture. A joint production between Marvel and Stitcher, The Long Night is destined to become their first of many audio dramas in the near future.
Wolverine: The Long Night is now available via Stitcher Premium.
Why We’re Obsessed With Killing Eve
Sandra Oh is back on TV with BBC America’s new thriller, Killing Eve, which sees the actress playing Eve, an MI5 security officer stuck behind a desk opposite Jodie Comer, who plays Villanelle, a talented killer obsessed with luxury. The two spar in a game of cat and mouse after a Russian politician is murdered, setting them on a violent collision course. Fans of the Grey’s Anatomy star may be surprised to see Oh in such a different role from Dr. Christina Yang, but the actress showcased her a**-kicking chops with 2017’s Catfight. However, this show is more than two women fighting, thanks to Fleabag’s Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who developed and wrote the series and adds a bit of twisted humor to the show.
Killing Eve airs Sundays at 8 p.m. ET on BBC America.
Why We’re Obsessed With Love After Love
What happens when you lose the foundation of your family? Russell Harbaugh’s new film about the loss of a patriarch explores that idea through the surviving family members and how they come to terms with it. Andie MacDowell leads the cast as Suzanne, a mother attempting to explore a new relationship following her husband’s death. This, of course, is at odds with her oldest son, Nicholas (Chris O’Dowd), whose own relationship with his girlfriend is falling apart and doesn’t think his mother should move on. Meanwhile, the youngest son, Chris (James Adomian), deals with grief in his own complicated way. First premiering at the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival, Love After Love was one of the standouts, particularly thanks to MacDowell, who seems to be enjoying a resurgence following her welcome appearance in Magic Mike XXL.
Love After Love is now available on demand.

In December, Fantagraphics announced a new superhero universe All Time Comics headed up by Josh Bayer. The line will feature a series of six comics featuring stand alone, interconnected adventures with a focus of retro crime fighting bringing together new cartoonists with classic creators.
The line of comics features the creative talents of Bayer, Herb Trimpe, Ben Marra, Jim Rugg, Johnny Ryan, Al Milgrom, Das Pastoras, Tony Millionaire, Rick Buckler, Victor Martinez, and Noah Van Sciver.
I got a chance to ask Josh some questions about the line, its influences, and what we can expect.
Graphic Policy: Where did the idea for All Time Comics come from and how long did it take from the initial idea to the announcement?
Josh Bayer: That’s a good question. It was an incredibly long time, from 2014 ‘til now. Looking back, that three years represents a ton of work under the bridge, writing scripts, editing contacting talent, getting worked lettered, colored, not to mention promoting and getting the work ready to print.
GP: With a shared superhero universe starting from scratch, that has to feel a bit overwhelming. How’d you go about figuring out what to characters to highlight with this initial batch?
JB: Beginning points are always hard. With All Time Comics, we started eating the sandwich from the middle. Not only did we jump into the middle of this endeavor, but we wrote the books as if there was a whole history, as if these are from an alternate universe where All Time Comics were an ongoing thing for decades. I wrote most of the books, or co-wrote them with Ben concurrently with each other, so if one book wasn’t the best beginning point the next one might be. That lessened some of that anxiety.
GP: What were your influences while putting this together? What are some of your favorite shared superhero universe?
JB: I don’t know if they influenced but inspired yes: Alan Moore’s America’s Best Comics, Alan Moore’s 1963 line and some of Mark Grunewald’s Dp7 comics, and a few of the other New Universe books. Definitely, but mostly Mark Grunewald.
GP: One of the big things you hear folks talking about when it comes to shared universes is accessibility. Was that on your mind when you went about creating everything?
JB: Yes, but that’s more like something which makes sense in retrospect rather than something I planned.  I just wanted to make some books with my brother and my friends, and then with my heroes, it got more interesting as it went on.
GP: How much detail have you go into creating all of the characters? Is there years of backstory or is this the “birth” of these characters and universe?
JB: Not all the backstory is present, we really scratch the surface. We show Crime Destroyer’s origin in a one-page montage that is my favorite Herb Trimpe page. We don’t go into the other three heroes’ backstories, so there is a lot of that to delve into in the future, potentially.
At the same time Phil Jimenez was my teacher at SVA, he used to say that the modern comics industry sometimes thinks that everything needs a reason behind it and an explanation, but not everything needs an explanation all the time. So there’s checks and balances, we know the past of the characters, but you don’t necessarily need all that information to make them the best comics they can be.
GP: The folks participating on the project is an impressive roster of talent. How’d you go about recruiting everyone and what were some of their initial reactions?
JB: The younger cartoonists were mostly people I already knew. For the older artists I asked around. One of my friends Cliff Gailbrath was instrumental in getting me in touchy with Herb, and I think I contacted Al through his commission website. Once Herb vouched for me it opened a lot of doors. Aside from that I was really lucky and worked hard to impress those guys. I had never done as polished as script as I produced for Herb, but I wanted it to be as impressive as I could manage. I have no complaints about how that evolved I look back and I was very fortunate that this thing worked.
GP: How’d it get decided who would work on what project?
JB: I just made lists of my favorite people, made them offers, and shifted teams around based on their needs and availability. Each one was an experiment, and each one worked out. Believe me, I’d love to have 15 more teams of unlikely collaborators working together. It’s just a matter of time, money, and basic resources, not a lack of inspiration.
GP: Diversity seems to be on the mind of so many in the industry. Was that something you thought about when creating the characters and recruiting the talent?
JB: Having older and younger artists working together is a nice step towards representing those older and younger faces, but I’d like All Time Comics to be more diverse. Season one, we had four artists, all from similar backgrounds, even if we’re from different eras.  If there’s a Season Two, you’ll hear from a broader array of voices in some All Time Comics books we have coming out after these first issues.
GP: The announcement talks about “old-school comics” and “contemporary storytelling.” What are those things to you?
JB: That’s a good question, since those are broad terms and are meant as a calling card to the public. Old School comics had a texture and an energy I liked. That energy was embodied by people like Al and Herb, and that energy is still around, not just in our books — it’s not like mainstream comics are done by robots. There’s a lot of stuff I’ve seen that I like in other people’s superhero comics. People like Ben and Noah are both contemporary and old school, they are traditionalist, and at the same time are interested in speaking to people in today’s world. And so am I. Old school and contemporary means the combination of all our efforts.
GP: There’s been the initial announcement and launch, can we expect more down the road?
JB: First, we need everyone to go out and dig Crime Destroyer, Bullwhip, Atlas and Blind Justice. After that? To be continued….
GP: Thanks so much for chatting.
