Motherwell 1 - 1 Ross Co
Tumblr media
Neither Motherwell nor Ross County got the victory they craved as both teams shared the points in their fight against relegation.Stuart McKinstry gave Motherwell the lead in the 70th minute, but with 10 minutes remaining substitute Jordy Hiwula, only on the field for a matter of seconds, snatched an equaliser and a 1-1 draw. Ross County remain bottom of the table with Motherwell just outside the relegation zone only three points ahead in ninth.Motherwell have not won in their last eight matches with their last victory coming against Dundee United on October 29, while Ross County's winless streak continues having not won in their last seven matches.Their last victory in the Premiership against Hibernian in a 2-0 win at Easter Road on November 8. The Staggies started the match off brighter with Owura Edwards causing Motherwell early problems in defence. He managed to send a cross to the edge of the box which found Ross Callachan, but his thunderous effort was well over the bar.
Tumblr media
Image: Stuart McKinstry opened the scoring for Motherwell Motherwell eased themselves into the game and were unfortunate not to take the lead in the 10th minute.McKinstry was allowed too much freedom in the box and fired a powerful low strike which beat goalkeeper Ross Laidlaw, but clattered off the right post.McKinstry then tested Laidlaw again when he managed to connect with a pass from Sean Goss in the box, but Laidlaw read the strike from 12 yards out well to parry the ball out for a corner. Ross County started the second half brightly and almost took the lead when Yan Dhanda's cross from the left evaded everyone and only zipped inches past the right post to the relief of Liam Kelly.Paul McGinn had a golden chance to give Motherwell the lead on the hour mark when he was unchallenged on the six-yard box to meet a corner, but he was unable to guide his header on goal as it went over the bar.
Tumblr media
Image: Jordy Hiwula was on target for Ross County Motherwell did break the deadlock with 20 minutes remaining with McKinstry firing a low drive from the edge of the box. Laidlaw managed to get a hand to it, but was unable to turn it around the right post as it rolled into the net.But with 10 minutes remaining, Hiwula made an immediate impact, only seconds after coming off the bench, pounced on a loose ball and charged towards goal, firing a low drive past Kelly to equalise. What's next? The attention now turns to the Scottish Cup fourth-round for both teams.Motherwell are away to Arbroath on 21 January with Ross County at Hamilton on the same day. Both games kick-off at 3pm. Read the full article

The two bottom-placed teams in the Scottish Premiership table will compete this Saturday as Ross County look to get off the foot of the table when they welcome Kilmarnock to the Global Energy Stadium.  Neither club has managed to win a league match in their opening three games, with this providing each of them a great opportunity to change their fortunes.Despite the fact that Ross County put together an undefeated start to the season in the Scottish League Cup, that is not something that have been able to translate into the league as of yet.
The Staggies have been beaten in all three of their SPL fixtures to this point, with the latest being at the hands of St Mirren, who denied their opponents from even scoring a goal.  The match finished 1-0 after Richard Tait scored early in the second half, with Ross County being unable to find a response as they continue to sit bottom of the league.  So far the Staggies are a far cry away from their standings in the 2021-22 campaign where they finished in the top half of the table, which is down to the form that they have started with.  A big problem so far for Malky Mackay is the fact that his team is struggling to find the back of the net, as they have scored just two goals this season in the league.  That is an area that Scottish Premiership new boys Kilmarnock are actually weaker in, as the squad have managed to just a single goal so far, but that was enough to get them a point on the board.
The 91st-minute finish from Ash Taylor helped them secure a 1-1 draw against Dundee United in the opening day of the season, and since that point, they have been comfortably beaten by both Rangers and Celtic.  Facing the Old Firm rivals has been a difficult way to adjust to life in the top flight for Kilmarnock, and they will now be hoping to put those two defeats behind them to get their season back on track immediately.  A victory could see Derek McInnes's team climb into the top half of the table, showcasing just how close things are in the early moments of the campaign overall.  Kilmarnock have not picked up any points on the road though, which is something that they will be keen to do as quickly as possible in order to showcase their ability to compete away from home.  Connor Randall was unavailable for Ross County during their most recent defeat due to injury, and that opened up an opportunity for Callum Johnson to start the match, which could take place again this weekend.
Jordy Hiwula was able to lead the line once again for the Staggies, although after a game without a goal there could be a chance that Jordan White takes his place.  The visitors have been missing a trio of players as of late with Blair Alston, Zach Hemming and Scott Robinson all being unavailable at the moment for them.  Pressure is building on the attacking members of the Kilmarnock squad as well after consecutive games without a goal, with the experience of Kyle Lafferty potentially being important this weekend.  Neither team will be heading into this match with much confidence after difficult starts to their respective campaigns, but it does give them both a chance to get some points on the board.  Even though each club needs to get a victory under its belts, it could end up leading to them sharing the points as they look to be cautious enough to not suffer another defeat.  The Premiership's bottom two teams will go up against each other in Dingwall this weekend.
Hosts Ross County have 0 points to show from their efforts after three games despite putting in decent showings against Hearts and Celtic. That's almost as tough a start to the season as you can get but last week's defeat to St Mirren will have been slightly more of a frustration.  Malky Mackay will look for his side to finally get up and running with a home game against a Kilmarnock team just one point above them. The Staggies had a slow start last season before really kicking into gear during the second half of it but would've hoped to get off to a better start this time out.
Derek McInnes' men have also had a very tough opening three games with the most recent two against either side of the Old Firm, and last season's fourth-placed Dundee United on the opening day.  The manager wasn't impressed with the goals conceded in last week's 5-0 thumping at the hands of Celtic but they fared better against Rangers before conceding two fairly late on.  It all adds up to a really important afternoon for both teams and managers and it will be interesting to see how it all pans out. Here is everything you need to know ahead of this one.  It may only be the fourth week of the season, but points are always crucial when the league’s bottom two go head-to-head.  Ross County were actually involved in a battle of the bottom two last weekend and, as the fact they’re now at the foot of the standings might suggest, they were beaten.  The Staggies went down 1-0 at St Mirren, conceding a wonder goal before missing a pair of gilt-edged late chances.
So, Malky Mackay’s men are pointless after three games having lost, admittedly, tough games against Hearts and Celtic to start.  This won’t faze Ross County fans though, after their side failed to win any of their first 11 matches last season, but still managed to finish sixth.  Championship champions Kilmarnock meantime are just one point and one place better off than the Highlanders.  Killie held Dundee United to a 1-1 draw on their top-flight return; Ash Taylor firing home a stoppage time equaliser.  However, subsequently, Derek McInnes’ side have lost both games, 2-0 at Ibrox and then, last Sunday, 5-0 at home to Celtic.  Those games though will not define Kilmarnock’s season, but games like this certainly will.

"Sunday league", "Absolutely shocking" - These Sunderland fans crucify two Jack Ross signings
Sunderland played out perhaps the maddest game of the English Football League season so far on Saturday, and fans are furious with two summer signings – Jack Baldwin and Tom Flanagan.
The Black Cats suffered a big setback in the race for automatic promotion on Saturday. While they lost 5-4 at home to Coventry, each of Barnsley, Portsmouth, Charlton and Doncaster picked up three points.
And Jack Ross’ side can have no complaints about the result, as their defending throughout the afternoon was nothing short of abysmal.
Pl>ymaker FC Exclusive: Jermaine Jenas reveals why Tyne-Wear is a more intense derby than anything London can offer – check out the video below….
Bright Enobakhare opened the scoring before George Honeyman levelled, but goals from Amadou Bakayoko and Jordy Hiwula made it 3-1 to the visitors, with the latter strike deflecting in off Baldwin.
Charlie Wyke and Will Grigg both got on the scoresheet from close range to level things up again, only for Jordan Shipley and Max Power to trade goals and make it 4-4.
Finally, Conor Chaplin provided the decisive strike after a mistake from Flanagan.
Unsurprisingly after conceding five goals at home, fans are slamming the two centre backs, both of whom were signed by Ross last summer.
You can find some of the best Twitter reactions down below, look away now Jack and Tom…
Hope I never see Baldwin & Flanagan in the Sunderland shirt ever again

Leadbitter very poor and a wasted signing Flanagan and Baldwin from the first ten games to now is just astonishing Grigg has been a massive waste and either isn’t fit or just not the right man for the job Cannot play leadbitter and power in a 2 like… #safc
— Joe Stuart (@joseph00stuart) April 13, 2019
Plz, Jack Ross don’t play Baldwin and Flanagan again ever. O’Nien not a defender and looks lost, warning signs against Burton not acted upon. Not sure about Dunne and Osturk but defensively we’re 🐶💩we we’re lucky today that it wasn’t 7 or 8!!!
