#It also like erases some aspects of aphrodite too - she's a war goddess and went into battle with him and wasn't exactly dainty and sweet

Every time I see this post I’m not going to lie that it really irritates me. I don’t really care that people like to reimagine greek myths as more consensual and romantic and I get why Hephaestus/Aphrodite would be appealing, in a beauty and the beast kind of way. But like why do people feel the need to pass on abuse from one to another? (e.g Hades’ kidnapping and rape removed and in place Demeter is an abusive mother.)
No matter that Hephaestus was never someone she wanted to marry, who was most certainly raping her and cursed her children. He humiliated and exposed her publicly and she later divorced him and then chose to marry Ares off her own choice and volition. But clearly, the Olympian who never raped anyone, actually killed his daughter’s rapist - the origin of the myth of the murder trial - founded the amazons and had eight children with her (all of which they were both fairly close-to and heavily involved with), on top of that being the most handsome god on Olympus is clearly the undesirable option.
