no offence but has anyone who hates YA books ever actually read a YA book that came out after like 2015 and is less mainstream than what gets big in TikTok because I promise y'all there is so much good YA out there YA is not inherently bad it is literally just books about teenagers for teenagers

I guarantee you there are just as many shitty adult books out there, y'all just can't get your heads out of your asses long enough to understand that YA is not synonymous with bad writing or certain tropes it is literally just an age category

like I will make fun of YA tropes as much as the next person but for christs sake some of y'all read a few bad YA books and just decided an entire category of books was automatically bad

I understand if you don't like reading YA. if you have outgrown YA. that's valid!! don't read it!! it's literally that easy just don't read it! I'm reading less and less of it as I get older too! but some of the best books I have ever read are YA because shockingly, an entire age category that is not defined by tropes any more than any other category is, has plenty of books that are well written and unique

#look I'm sorry but I'm in a bad fucking mood and I am very sick of seeing how much people on this site hate YA books #I have typed out and deleted this rant like five times but I'm miserable already today so I don't give enough shits to not post this #when tbh I don't think 90% of you know what a YA book even is #tell me what you like and dislike in books and I bet I can find a YA book you'd like #because seriously some of y'all have no idea what you're talking about #it's being salty about book takes hours apparently #writing #books #reading #ya books #publishing #look I wanna go into YA publishing tbh like that's my dream #and it's not like I'm offended on my behalf #but there are so many incredible YA authors out there doing such great work #and bc I'm interested in the industry I see so much of that work #and all the passion the readers have for those books #and I see how fucking beautiful that is and how it's an area of publishing where so many boundaries are getting pushed #(like old white cishet people boundaries not teens' boundaries) #and so much creativity and love goes into the books and the fandoms #and I hate seeing people shit on them when they've never even seen that side of YA #they've just seen the shitty ones and the biggest hits #like go actually look at what modern YA is releasing #and read some of those books that aren't quite famous #and THEN if you still think YA sucks then you can shit on it #but for the love of god read something that isn't like stephanie meyer and kasie west first
