Simple overview to various types of optical fiber port

2021 Mother’s Day Gift Guide
Sharing some gift ideas for all of the ladies in your life! Moms, grandmas, nanas, friends, mom figures, new moms, whoever you want to shower with something special this Mother’s Day. I also wanted to recognize here that I know Mother’s Day can be hard and sad for various reasons; please know I’m holding you in my heart.
Hi friends! How was the weekend? Ours was a good one! It was pretty low-key with lots of family time, a special date with P while Liv was at a friend’s house, a beautiful spring run to cap off this week’s barre bootcamp workouts, and a giant cheese board. All the good stuff.. except I ended up fracturing my pinky on Sunday. I’ve got a splint and am crossing my fingers it heals quickly!
For today’s post, I wanted to share some Mother’s Day gift ideas. I’m thinking/hoping this year will be much better than last year! 2020 Mother’s Day, we were completely isolated and I had a mysterious full-body rash. I’m not requesting a lot gift-wise this year, but am absolutely looking forward to celebrating all of the women in our family we love so much. I thought I’d share some ideas if you’re shopping, and I’d love to hear your gift guide picks, too!
Flowers and plants:
Venus et fluer flowers. I get ad-targeted for these on Facebook ALL THE TIME and they’re SO GORGEOUS. The roses last an entire year!

An Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) contact between youngsters and youth in Moldova and an International Space Station (ISS) crew member is set for March 3. The Moldova Peace Corps (MPC) is the hosting organization, and 90 students (aged 10 – 18) from a consortium of educational institutions, rural schools, and libraries from nine Moldovan villages will participate.
MPC promotes economic and civic development with a particular focus on developing local resources in rural and suburban communities. Another focus of MPC is to provide youth in Moldovan villages with access to STEM opportunities and build capacity among local teachers/librarians to implement STEM activities in their curricula.
During the multipoint telebridge contact, students will take turns asking questions of astronaut Mike Hopkins, KF5LJG. ARISS team member David Payne, NA7V, in Oregon will serve as the relay amateur radio station.
In support of this contact, the MPC partnered with the staff at the Centre of Excellence for Space Sciences and Technologies within the Technical University of Moldova (UTM), the US Peace Corps Volunteer Coordinator, and the participating schools and libraries. The contact will be livestreamed via the MPC and UTM Facebook pages.

Adding character to a BIG wall for under $100!
Hey there! Thank you for your excitement about our recent dream trip to Italy. I was thrilled so many of you enjoyed reading about it. I'll share more soon!
Remember that list of DIY projects I wanted to complete before the holidays? Well...I forgot about one. I've wanted to do this forever, but I wanted to hold off until I knew exactly how I wanted it to look. I figured it out recently and knocked a project of the list...that I didn't put on my list. 😂
Remember when I painted our morning/dining room walls a deep, moody blue? We still love it!:
When I painted and built the bookcases, I planned to add trim of some kind to this wall. I liked it as it was so held off on installing anything.
After time I realized I wanted to give it a bit of interest -- it's such a big wall! I ended up going with a very traditional but simple design using the same wood trim I've used in the past (at the old house) many times.
It's simple decorative molding from Lowe's that runs about $6 for an eight foot piece. I'm not sharing a photo step-by-step here because I've shared this wainscoting tutorial before -- it's actually a GREAT way to dip your toe into DIY projects.
You'll need to cut the molding at a 45 angle to make boxes on the wall. This time I went with a set of longer ones on top and smaller boxes below:
I painted them before I put them up this time and did a final coat after I filled the gaps and holes.
It's the same satin sheen as the walls. I am thrilled with the bit of elegance it adds to the room!:

I went with three large sets -- the sections on the ends are the same size (around three feet wide) and the middle section is the largest. It works great with the long buffet we have in the room:

Determine your design and how many pieces of trim you'll need.
Determine your spacing -- I went 2.5 inches on each side of the wall, from the bottom and in between each box. This is totally up to what appeals to you!
I left a little more space at the top in case I add crown later on. I matched it to the height of the thick DIY door trim.
You'll need a hand saw and miter box or a saw to cut your wood at 45 degree angles.
I started with the vertical pieces to get the spacing right, but any side is fine. I find it helps to only nail one end of the trim in, then add the connecting piece. This allows you to make small adjustments as you go.
No matter how well you measure and cut, some squares may be off slightly, so I recommend measuring as you go, instead of cutting all of the pieces at once.
I used a nail gun to install them onto the wall. You don't need to hit a stud each time -- this stuff is lightweight and will stay on the wall easily.
I don't recommend using glue -- EVER. I've learned the hard way over the years that you should only do that if you are absolutely positive you'll never take it down. Otherwise you'll have really fun drywall fixes. ;)
You can caulk after the trim is up if there are any gaps. I didn't find it necessary this time.
Finish up by touching up corners and holes with filler and more coat of paint on the trim.
The final result is a subtle but beautiful detail that amps up the look of any room!:
It isn't a hard DIY, it just takes a lot of time. Painting takes the majority of the time for sure. I've tried it both ways -- painting before I install and painting after. Neither one is better than the other. I didn't want any brush marks along the trim so I opted for painting before this time.
Total cost was around $85 for the trim. I think it makes a BIG difference in here! It's definitely a traditional look, but the dark color makes it feel more modern.
As far as I'm concerned, you just can't go wrong with this stuff! Let's look back at how this room looked almost two years ago and compare it to now:
It looked pretty back then too -- but now it feels more like us, with the contrast and trim (and that window seat!):

Adding light summer touches to a cozy and dark bedroom
Hello there! I'm back to share our summer master bedroom tour along with a bunch of other bloggers hosted by my friend Marty at A Stroll Thru Life. She has gathered a talented group sharing their beautiful summer bedrooms this week. (See the full list at the bottom of the post!)
Our master bedroom has undergone a bunch of changes since we moved in, and I finally finished up the painting in here a few months ago. The room wasn't completely done then, but after gathering some items from around the house, I'm calling it finished for now. And I'm so thrilled with it!
I choose gray grasscloth on the walls and dark trim underneath, so I thought making this room light and summery would be a challenge. Turns out you can totally have a cozy room and still make it lighter for the summer months!
My first step was to change out the bedding. A few months ago I found this light duvet cover from Target and went from there:
Confession time -- we rarely make our bed. (If you've been a long time reader you know it's just not our thing.) Half that battle has been all of the euros and decorative pillows I've added in the past. I hate dealing with them anymore!
I decided to do away with most of them and went with just two euros and one throw pillow, along with the bed pillows that we actually use:

I like TONS of pillow to sleep with -- I like to be surrounded and cozy. 😂 So we don't have a lot of room for decorative stuff anyway.

The lighter bedding made a big difference, but I grabbed a few other items from around the house to lighten things up:
We got that geode on a spelunking trip years ago, but it has a lighter feel like a seashell. It's quite beautiful up close -- I love it!
The green trees outside our windows are the best summer accessory though!:
The rest of the decor is light and sparse -- I tend to go "lighter" with decor in the summer months anyway. The fall and holidays are my time to add more stuff. :)
I was going to paint this dresser but decided against it for now. I really love the wood tone against the gray:

A simple vase with hydrangeas from the garden lighten things up too. I still love the IKEA dressers I made into nightstands. This is such a great way to create tons of good looking storage next to the bed:
The peel and stick grasscloth wallpaper I added last year adds so much coziness to this space.
I'm obsessed with wallpaper lately -- I've added it to a few rooms in this house and haven't regretted it one bit:
The first project we tackled in this room was the dark gray ceiling and the wood beams (that aren't really beams).
The tray ceiling was calling out for something and this upped the cozy factor big time!:

I later painted the trim and walls under it in the same color as the ceiling, Westchester Gray by Sherwin-Williams. I was able to go dark with the paint and drapes because we have so many windows in this room:
There are five windows to be exact. (One is a large picture window.)

I love the sound of a fan at night, and especially in the summer the breeze is welcomed. You can find options that look good enough to keep out all the time at HomeGoods! That fan is always on the nightstand.
We use hanging sconces on the wall instead of lamps on nightstands to save space -- and they work way better for reading!
I love the combo of wood tones, cozy gray paint and lighter accents in this room! I'm a lover of contrast:
