Feel free to disregard if you donā€™t want to answer, but I was wondering what inspired ā€œSweet True Liesā€? And what inspired your creation of Keeda? :)
Hi Nonnie!! Aww, thank you for such a sweet question šŸ„°šŸ„° ok, Iā€™m gonna try to do this without any major spoilersā€¦
I was originally inspired to write about how misunderstood Fox is because we never really get any character development from him beyond his few scenes in TCW. When we do see him, the audience is already biased against his position/role, even tho (from his perspective) heā€™s performing his role as a marshal commander very well. Thatā€™s when I realized he is the perfect canvas on which to portray some of the darker, grittier aspects of military life.
And as a marshal commander, I always felt there had to be so much more going on in his head, and in the military life he lives, than what we see onscreen. Heā€™s in a very precarious position when it comes to following orders, but he also is a clone and was raised with that core value of protecting his brothers and wants to do his best to keep them out of harmā€™s way if he can. (Thereā€™s going to be a lot more to his backstory coming in future chapters that will explain why he is the way he is, too.)
I also believe Palpatine/Sidious had a lot to do with how hard his life was day-to-day, and I believe Fox would truly start to resent the upper classes because they treat him and his brothers like the dirt beneath their boots. However, thatā€™s where Keeda comes in.
My creation of Keeda was simply from an idea I had of a wealthy businesswoman OC, but one who wants to help people and who is tired of being sought after for her wealth. She inherits her fatherā€™s business after his death, and she is usually seen as an opportunity or a prize by potential partners and social climbers. She also actively works with her motherā€™s medical charity, and when they partner with the GAR, she starts going on relief missionsā€”something many of the clones have never seen a nat-born do.
When Fox sees this, he realizes that his perception of people in her position might not always be accurate, and it makes him reevaluate his own views. Sheā€™s not his ā€œrescuerā€ by any means, but she does help provide new perspectives about himself and the galaxy he hadnā€™t considered before. He does the same for her by treating her as a person worth caring for without the ulterior motive of wanting access to her wealth or connections.
Thatā€™s just the base I have the story built on, but thereā€™s a lot more detail that will go into this in future chapters that really flesh everything out. I hope youā€™ve enjoyed what youā€™ve read so far, and that you continue to enjoy it in the future!!
