I have, for most of my life, dismissed anything outside my control with "It doesn't matter."

But I've been wrong. All along, I've been wrong.

It does matter. It does.

It matters that my children are fatherless and it matters that my husband has dipped on his every single responsibility and it matters that I'm not a good enough mother and it matters that I'm trying my best anyway and it matters that I grew up and spent my early adulthood friendless and it matters that I have friends now, beloved friends, and it matters it matters it matters.

Dallas used to hate when I would say "It is what it is" because he thought I accepted reality too easily without trying to affect it and I always hated when he (and other people) would say "That's not how it should be" because I thought he (and other people) were concentrating too much on hypotheticals and ignoring the hand they were dealt. And we were both right, really; reality is, but "how it should be" must be what we strive towards.

Anyway, it matters, the whole world matters, everything and everyone matters, and my own powerlessness to influence it doesn't make it matter less.

So I might post some holiday snaps later if people want to see them but in important crafting news, I started another Taylor cardigan (this time on the right yarn weight and needle size 😅 - I'm using Stylecraft Highland Heathers in Granite and DK special in Bottle)

Started and finished the back and am now working on the left front, the colourway comes from this version of the cardigan from 2020 which officially was listed on the merch store as one of two holiday cardigans, but it also came out around the same time as evermore which is one of my most beloved albums so I'm just calling it the evermore cardigan

i'm STUNNED at how simple it is to fix a mistake when you're crocheting. i can just, take the hook out, and pull the string up until the point i want to fix something. when i'm knitting and i drop a stitch, the world ends and everything is on fire

#i think it was really good to learn knitting first and THEN crocheting #knitting was a little bit of a challenge to tackle at first #and it made crocheting an actual walk in the park #also #if anyone has any tips on how to stop making my crochet projects fold inwards on themselves #please let me know #i think i might just be pulling on it too hard and it makes it too tight #but it's hard to make it lay flat and neat #see when i knit #the needles automatically keep everything perfectly aligned #so when i began crocheting simple things like squares #it was a slap in the face at how difficult it was to actually make it look like a square and not a squiggly shape made by a two year old #charrator

its funny bc when i got into knitting i was like 'ok but im not gonna be like those OTHER knitters and make knitting my entire personality' and then i immediately abandoned that and my entire personality is knitting now. im knitting a sock rn btw. if you didnt know. ive never knit one by hand before. only by machine. so its exciting.

#im doing techniques i could never do on the machine #i wanna come up with an adapted version of my sock pattern that would allow me to make a lace or cabled or ribbed foot instead of just plai #stockinette. but i INSIST on having a heel flap and gusset so we will see if i can manage that. i know it will need to be a sock knit flat #and then sewn up but idk if/how it will work out
